Lin-Manuel Miranda came up with the concept to mash up Story of Tonight from Hamilton with You Will Be Found from Dear Evan Hansen (which starred Ben Platt). It was part of his "Hamildrops" series of collaborations with other artists to create new takes on songs from Hamilton. A portion of the proceeds from the sales of the single went to March For Our Lives, the student-led movement created in 2018 following the school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida on Feb 14/2018. Alex Lacamoire, who was the music director and orchestrator for both musicals actually did most of the work mashing up the two songs. You see him on the keyboard and directing the musicians. Justin Paul, one of the composers for Dear Evan Hansen is part of the group sitting with Lin, observing the proceedings.
I love this so much. Lin’s voice was shredded by the end of his year on Hamilton so hearing him after some recovery time is great. Such a great mash up.
