Despite his age now, I don't think anyone can play Evan Hansen better than him. He's perfect for the role, I'm happy he's reprising his role just for the movie 👍
I loved him as Evan but I think age kinda does matter if you’re making it into a movie. On stage, age is easier to pass but there’s many teenage actors who would be perfect for the movie. Take Andrew Barth Feldman for example, who started playing Evan at 16.
Olivia Newton-John was 30 when she portrayed 17-year-old Sandy in Grease. Ben is perfection to portray Evan Hansen…again! I was lucky to see Ben and all of the original cast on Broadway!
@@shejean6361 In Grease ALL teen characters were played by older actors, so all of them looked the same age. Meanwhile in Dear Evan Hansen, Zoe, Jared, Alanna literally look/can pull 17, and Evan looks late 20. At least cast other late 20 actors in the role, or put Benjamin Button team to de-age his face. So they all look the same age
The fact that he managed to properly sing Alana's and Jared's part despite a huge octave/tone difference just shows how talented Ben is when it comes to his vocal skills and transitions
You'll notice how he does the run down to the lower octave to give a reference point to sing the second line... very well done... seamless, and setting himself up for success
I saw Andrew Barth Feldman on Broadway. Although I haven’t seen any other Evan on Broadway, I was in tears the entire musical. Wish I could’ve seen Ben Platt though.
His dad is the director, I think that was the main reason, I saw the performance with another actor and it was equally amazing, exact same acting style etc
He truly made this his own performance and did not hold back. This wasn’t Evan, this was Ben. If he wasn’t playing Evan in the movie I wouldn’t watch it, regardless of the age gap. There have been many similar and worse age gaps in other shows. Kaitlyn is literally like 3 years younger than him and they guy who played Jared is the same age so I don’t see how there’s such a problem with only him, whether his dad produced it or not.
Ben has a very old looking face, he’s nearly 30 and he looks, well, about 30 playing a meek, small and awkward 16/17 year old. The other actors are aging in ways that are less noticeable but Ben…..looks like a 30 year old playing make believe.
I can’t believe people are mad about Ben’s age for the casting of the Dear Evan Hansen movie. Theatre and Movie are two different things. But, Ben’s portrayal as Evan, will always have a special place in my heart. He does an amazing job for acting and singing. No matter what, Ben will always be the most amazing Evan. 💙
He definitely doesn’t look like a high school senior. BUT, there truly is no one better to play/sing Evans role. He truly is the face of Dear Evan Hansen.

I felt a no name Broadway start could have been amazing personally. I mean the reason age is a big issue is one the camera will show his real age just due to the close ups and angles and two he makes the cast as a whole look to old. This is just something I felt when I saw the trailer and no hate to Ben but he is not the best choice for the movie.

He’ll have the EGOT under his belt in no time. It’ll just take the right acting role! Every time I see him perform I’m reminded that “entertainers” can literally create freaking magic, and somehow he (and pretty much only he) ALWAYS does. I do wish they would have given him the chance to perform one of the songs from his new solo album though! It’s so incredible!
I LOVE Ben Platt and I DO think he's incredibly talented, don't get me wrong... but this key change is not that difficult. The note he transitions to is just one step up from the last note he was singing. A simple major scale walk-up. :-)

I also performed this song on AGT and I found that particular key change to be extremely easy even without the backing track as it is simply one step above the previous note (A to F# in a D major scale.) Again, not dissing Ben. He's insanely talented, but I'm far more impressed with his vocal control in the riffs near the end than I am with his ability to perform a simple a cappella key change.
Ben Platt will always be Evan Hansen. He tells the story so well and this role is absolutely perfect for him. This song is beautiful and his voice is out of this world. I am beyond thrilled for him!!
I wish they went with someone younger and unknown so that we could have a different experience but I am happy with Ben cause ik he can sing the parts right and and show a lot of emotions

How do people not like him? He's amazing. His singing and everything. Hes also an amazing person. There's one quote I always keep with that he said in his Tony speech, "don't try to like anybody but yourself because the things that make you strange are the things that make you powerful"
And what makes it even better is that if there was people watching and are going through those dark times I know that this will make them just a tiny bit happier.
I sang this song in my choir and I honestly loved it so much, the power the song holds is immaculate. but with his voice it’s INCREDIBLE!! truly a masterpiece

Ben Platt STILL GOT IT ! He's truly a gem; I know he has taken a lot of heat for starring as Evan as a 27 year old, but damn no one emotes like he does.
People forget Evan was probably 18; he was a senior in high school. I've seen plenty of seniors who look much older than they are. From trailers, Ben Platt looks really young- and it'd be difficult to have a movie without it being *his* voice. He takes the role so well, and there's something undescribable about it. People are just too picky.
i cannot wait to see dear evan hansen although i know i will get super emotional as the topic hits very close to home. i deal with depression, anxiety, loneliness and suicidal thoughts and i have been on a very very bumpy mental health journey and still am. i feel like this movie is needed by many. i'm just so happy to see mental health getting more recognition even if it is just through a movie. ❤️ and this song breaks my heart in the best way possible.
You should read the book. The musical is absolutely amazing for obvious reasons, but I think the book will help you deal with your inner demons as well. Keep going mate! I managed to escape the dark hole of depression myself, so I know the struggle, but you can do it. And as they sing in the song as well: “You are not alone!” ☝️😘
I can never relate to people who deal with this, and part of me wants to be able to understand how it truely feels, but the other part of me knows this isn't something I should hope to relate to. So all I can do for you is tell you that the fact you are still here, it is proof you are a strong person, and absolutely a fighter ❤️
I’m obsessed with Ben Platt's voice and I can’t believe this could be live because it is so perfect. I finally found him singing in a subway station that is absolutely a live version. Yeah, turns out…he’s that good.
I really hope he knows how many people he saved/saves with his voice. There’s only a few things that can hit right and his voice is just astounding. It’s out of this world and he’s got such an uplifting message with every song he sings
I’ve often felt “alone”. It’s a struggle dealing with mental illness when people don’t fully understand. They tell you to feel better, buck up etc. This song speaks to me deeply, as I’m sure it does to many of my brethren. Reach out to those you haven’t seen in awhile, or have become scarce, or just don’t seem themselves. It may save a life. To those of the afflicted like myself, keep walking forward and dont be afraid to ask for help.

When we're struggling, it's hard to face that the people in our lives can't or won't help us. Know that no one is meant to stay stuck in misery, and that includes you. Keep looking until you find where you belong and with whom. Don't give up. You have what it takes to thrive and be happy. Believe that's for you, even when it doesn't look or feel like it.
I wish people would stop talking about his age. Like we get it; he doesn’t look like a senior. Just don’t watch the movie. Everyone instead should be talking about his amazing acting and outstanding voice. I’ve made my point.
and also for those who haven't seen DEH 6years ago or ever on broadway, we get to see Ben as Evan. I've seen videos of his number in different events though and I must say this musical is written and tailored for him. He gives off the emotion so perfectly

You'll hear the difference in his technique when he's singing for Broadway and when he's singing for the movie. I personally prefer the Broadway ver. but this is just as amazing. I MISSED HIM.

I know people say "my jaw dropped," all the time, but my jaw actually dropped. I'm sitting in a coffee shop, just GAPING at my laptop screen. I must look absurd, but I don't even care. Ben is such a gift to the universe.
I have never been so moved by someone’s voice until now. Ben Platt is truly talented and you can feel the raw emotion he puts into this song. This song makes me feel like I am not alone and that people can relate to me, even though it feels like things may be at their worse.
I don't care how old he is, his acting is outstanding and a lovely voice to go with it. Ben Platt has always been one of those actors and voices that always, how do I put this, makes me cry? I don't know but I could always feel and hear the emotion in his voice.

I just saw Dear Evan Hansen the movie yesterday with my brother and mom, it touched very close to home because I deal with social anxiety, regular anxiety and sometimes suicidal thoughts.. I often feel like I'm alone and have to hide things, and I wish I could tell people but when I try I start to tear up, but I found it easier to write and then give a note to a parent or guardian. Dear Evan Hansen has made me feel not as much alone, my family just doesn't see that I need help, but I don't blame them because I don't really shoe. Im often very happy and joyful but on the inside I sometimes just feel like disappearing. I often try to help my friends with their mental state, but I don't help mine, lots and lots of people feel like this and people really should know that they aren't alone. This movie makes me able to find something that I can really relate to. Its an awesome movie and I really think this will help some people!

I went and saw him on tour for his album Reverie and honestly was one of the most beautiful performances I have ever witnessed. His voice is perfect and he shared stuff about the songs and it was beautiful. I had the chills for at least half of the performance. It was concert I was ridiculously loud at just because I wanted to hear his voice. I love Ben Platt and his music, it has gotten me through some of my worst depression spirals. His song "Dark Times" will always be my go to when I'm not myself some days.

I feel like Ben is still a bit of an unknown talent especially relative to his incredible vocal and acting abilities. With DEH hitting theaters, I'd be surprised if he doesn't become a megastar in these next couple of months.

This performance really moved me with the way he tells the story of the song. That was phenomenal! No need for fancy vocal acrobatics, just open your mouth and sing it man.

I was blessed to see Dear Evan Hansen on broadway in the second row. My sister and I went to the show not really knowing what it was about. “You Will Be Found” closes out the first act and I remember her and I were just sitting there shaking when the song was done. It was like we both had an out of body experience we were so moved. It’s amazing what vulnerable live theater can do. Everyone criticizing Ben for being too old to play Evan....remember he won a Tony for his impeccable work in this show. I think he is going to hit it out of the park and I am so excited that the world can hopefully feel what I felt that day. I can’t wait for the release! ❤️

He’ll have the EGOT under his belt in no time. It’ll just take the right acting role! Every time I see him perform I’m reminded that “entertainers” can literally create freaking magic, and somehow he (and pretty much only he) ALWAYS does.
I do wish they would have given him the chance to perform one of the songs from his new solo album though! It’s so incredible!

1:49 thats next level talent. Having to do the key change with a vocal lead in before the band changes keys is freaking tough.
I LOVE Ben Platt and I DO think he's incredibly talented, don't get me wrong... but this key change is not that difficult.
The note he transitions to is just one step up from the last note he was singing. A simple major scale walk-up. :-)

I also performed this song on AGT and I found that particular key change to be extremely easy even without the backing track as it is simply one step above the previous note (A to F# in a D major scale.) Again, not dissing Ben. He's insanely talented, but I'm far more impressed with his vocal control in the riffs near the end than I am with his ability to perform a simple a cappella key change.

And what makes it even better is that if there was people watching and are going through those dark times I know that this will make them just a tiny bit happier.

Ben Platt STILL GOT IT ! He's truly a gem; I know he has taken a lot of heat for starring as Evan as a 27 year old, but damn no one emotes like he does.
People forget Evan was probably 18; he was a senior in high school. I've seen plenty of seniors who look much older than they are. From trailers, Ben Platt looks really young- and it'd be difficult to have a movie without it being *his* voice. He takes the role so well, and there's something undescribable about it. People are just too picky.
He doesn't get the credit he deserves. His live performances are even better
He makes it look SO effortless. His voice is like liquid... it is all so so beautiful. What a gift. His breath control as well... pure class.
i cannot wait to see dear evan hansen although i know i will get super emotional as the topic hits very close to home. i deal with depression, anxiety, loneliness and suicidal thoughts and i have been on a very very bumpy mental health journey and still am. i feel like this movie is needed by many. i'm just so happy to see mental health getting more recognition even if it is just through a movie. ❤️

You should read the book. The musical is absolutely amazing for obvious reasons, but I think the book will help you deal with your inner demons as well.

I’m obsessed with Ben Platt's voice and I can’t believe this could be live because it is so perfect. I finally found him singing in a subway station that is absolutely a live version. Yeah, turns out…he’s that good.
I really hope he knows how many people he saved/saves with his voice. There’s only a few things that can hit right and his voice is just astounding. It’s out of this world and he’s got such an uplifting message with every song he sings

I’ve often felt “alone”. It’s a struggle dealing with mental illness when people don’t fully understand. They tell you to feel better, buck up etc. This song speaks to me deeply, as I’m sure it does to many of my brethren. Reach out to those you haven’t seen in awhile, or have become scarce, or just don’t seem themselves. It may save a life. To those of the afflicted like myself, keep walking forward and dont be afraid to ask for help.

I just saw Dear Evan Hansen the movie yesterday with my brother and mom, it touched very close to home because I deal with social anxiety, regular anxiety and sometimes suicidal thoughts.. I often feel like I'm alone and have to hide things, and I wish I could tell people but when I try I start to tear up, but I found it easier to write and then give a note to a parent or guardian. Dear Evan Hansen has made me feel not as much alone, my family just doesn't see that I need help, but I don't blame them because I don't really shoe. Im often very happy and joyful but on the inside I sometimes just feel like disappearing. I often try to help my friends with their mental state, but I don't help mine, lots and lots of people feel like this and people really should know that they aren't alone. This movie makes me able to find something that I can really relate to. Its an awesome movie and I really think this will help some people!

I went and saw him on tour for his album Reverie and honestly was one of the most beautiful performances I have ever witnessed. His voice is perfect and he shared stuff about the songs and it was beautiful. I had the chills for at least half of the performance. It was concert I was ridiculously loud at just because I wanted to hear his voice. I love Ben Platt and his music, it has gotten me through some of my worst depression spirals. His song "Dark Times" will always be my go to when I'm not myself some days.

I was blessed to see Dear Evan Hansen on broadway in the second row. My sister and I went to the show not really knowing what it was about. “You Will Be Found” closes out the first act and I remember her and I were just sitting there shaking when the song was done. It was like we both had an out of body experience we were so moved. It’s amazing what vulnerable live theater can do. Everyone criticizing Ben for being too old to play Evan....remember he won a Tony for his impeccable work in this show. I think he is going to hit it out of the park and I am so excited that the world can hopefully feel what I felt that day. I can’t wait for the release! ❤️
