The craziest thing is that this entire 3 season show was originally just supposed to be a funny commercial for NBC to advertise that they had bought the rights to broadcast the Premier League with the United States. And they figured they might as well use one of the cast members from SNL, which is also owned by NBC for a little cross promotion.
This is wrong. It was a advertisement for soccer, IIRC, about 8 years ago. That was the entire vision. Then, after a 4 year hibernation, it was resurrected as a comedy.,
@@envillain The OP suggested that this 3 season TV series was conceived as as a ad. It wasn't. Sudeikis did do a ad campaign for NBC sports in 2013. That is one thing and that was all it was supposed to be - a short ad campaign. From that seed came the 2020 TV show, which wasn't a ad campaign.
I love the line Ted has about going out there and showing Crystal Palace whose house it is... since Richmond's home stadium in the show is actually Crystal Palace's. I appreciate the little tongue in cheek joke about that.

Something to remember about a lot of the “Americanisms” in the show, they’re actually just “Tedisms” 😂 Usually it’s a riff on something we would say or it’s just some made up midwesternism made to sound funny. Glad you guys are enjoying the show so far! It’s an instant classic

Brett Goldstein ("Roy Kent") was also one of the writers. He'd based the character on Roy Keane, and during 'early days' of writing he thought, "..hey, I could play that guy!" and auditioned for the role. It's a legendary tale in the US soccer community. Since we're the only ones who remember Keane over here, of course. And don't take the piss because I said 'soccer' instead of football, please. It's actually 19th Century UK slang for "association football"! 🤣
Soccer has never captured my attention, but this series was something I absolutely never missed. This was so well done, and it’s interesting to hear a British take on it. Hope you keep enjoying it. The character of Ted Lasso was first created for spots on NBC to promote their coverage of the World Cup. In the ads, Ted was just as ignorant about soccer as he is in the series, but he was more of an angry character than they made him in the series.
I’ve never been into sports but this show quickly became a favorite and piqued my interest in soccer. It’s rare that a show has so many lovable characters, or makes you laugh in every episode.
I am so glad you guys are reacting to this. I love this show so much. It's like a giant hug while you're laughing and crying at the same time, but mostly laughing. The best part, is it only gets better with each episode over 3 seasons.
I’ve watched the whole show several times, beginning to end, and have watched it at least a dozen more times with a variety of reactors; it became a top favorite from the first couple of episodes I saw, even though I never would have imagined I’d like something like this. I’m here for the ride-I hope you love it as much as we all do! 🥰 No spoilers, but almost every character is surprisingly unique, even the ones who aren’t the front-and-center stars. Don’t write anyone off as “just an extra.”

It's great to watch them watching this for the first time, and seeing just how many tropes they subvert. Even some I didn't even catch that they're like "oh this is definitely going to happen" and then it just gets Ted Lasso'ed.
love this series. Love these vids and the opinions at the end as a 30 year soccer player from the states (arsenal supporter since my mom worked over in london for a few months when I was 8-9 and brought me back a beanie for the gunners at christmas).
I watched the first series alone. Then I was raving about it so much my wife wanted to watch it, so I got to watch it with her and see her reactions. Then my daughter wanted to watch it, so I'd watch it again with her, and watch her reactions. Meanwhile, my reactions to those moments grew stronger with each viewing. When the second series came out, I'd watch each episode alone, then with wife, then with daughter. (Third series was a hodge podge of viewings.)
Roy Kent = Roy Keane. You'll see another player later who is Zlatan Ibrahimovic (not a plot spoiler, just someone you'll notice). I know enough about real football (despite being painfully American) that I appreciated both the comedy, the Fish out of Water dynamics, AND the well told story of West London's Finest, AFC Richmond. I'm very intrigued to see what British people think of how your wonderful home (which I got to visit for a week last year on a work trip) is portrayed. Also very intrigued to see your reactions to the two "extra" episodes in Season 2 (you'll be able to tell which ones they are because they don't really advance any plotlines).

This is a show of terrible people being terrible. And one person that's so over-the-top positive that the outcome should be absolutely cloyingly saccharine. A complete train wreck. Yet it is not. It is a concept deftly executed with self awareness and unexpected depth. And before you know it - its slid a whole lot of feel-good past your cynical, depressed self.
these edits are bad..... watch some other channels, we need to see the clip your are reacting to for context. these jump edits with no context in the show SUCKS! and I've seen the show
As a yank soccer player growing up, I could not stand watching this whole series. I'll watch every react video though. The football is absolute garbage as it is with most sports TV show or movie but as someone who played, I understand what trash looks like and it's horrific. Lasso absolutely grates on me. As the show went on, sure, more depth came out but oh my goodness he became so annoying. Especially leading a "to level" club, it's just a mockery and a joke IMO. My dad said I needed to see it as a comedy and not about soccer. I told him to be considered a comedy it needed to be funny.

yeah, Palace was one of the few teams willing to work with Ted Lasso in season 1, let alone loan out their pitch.

This has been one of my favorite jokes in the show since I first learned that.
As an American, I did not know this and I'm so happy I saw this comment!
"Caesar you Later" is one of the best Higgins lines early in the show. You knew there was potential there and he and Ted had a connection brewing.
As you get deeper in the show, the complexity of the characters really ramps up. It keeps its charm throughout too.
The thing I loved about this show was that every character is pretty much full and complete. They have great story arcs across the board.
