  • Taylormade P770 Irons DON'T DISMISS THIS IRON as they are probably pound for pound my favourite iron in the Taylormade Range. With great looks and lines this iron makes it completely into the Players sector with most golfers thinking this is a step too far. Absolutely amazing forgiveness performance from the smaller chassis version of the P790. Gains all the Forgiveness performance and all the Feel.

    Jay, you legend. I play the previous version of the p770 and you’ve reminded me of why i picked them from my fitting. I couldn’t hit the p790 at all, even though they should have been a better fit on paper. I’ve been tempted to try some of the new gear but you’re making me think I should save my money and stick with what I’ve got.

    Great review . I play the original p790s and 9hc . Im poor with my 4 5 and 6 iron so was thinking of a combo set of p790 in these and p770 in 7-pw . Get the lofts adjusted as part of this . Seems like the best of both worlds

    I believe the first time TM used a slot in the irons was Rocketbladez. Same concept, 4,5,6 & 7 has it 8 up doesn't. I have these irons, in their day they were strong lofts. Nowadays they are more inline with everything else. The titliest t400 is a joke with lofts, Stealth much the same. Great review, these p770 are so pleasing on the eye from all angles for me.

    I use the 2020 P770. I used to use blades. I had tried the P790 but all I did was spray them all over the place. Probably had to do with the lighter shaft in the P790. I pair the P770 with c taper 120 shafts and what a set. They are a nice compromise between a blade and players distance type irons.

    Has anyone made a review of stronger lofted clubs like P790 v P770 but comparing similar lofted clubs or 2 clubs that go the same distance? Say 8iron in the P790 v 7iron in the P770. It doesn’t seem right to say one spins more or has a better dispersion when you’re not comparing clubs you would play the same distance shot with. If you move the tees up you would assume dispersion would improve. Just a thought. These are the best club reviews I’ve seen online though so I’m not criticising, love how you run though the data on the miss shots. Cheers.

    I got fitted for the 770’s today and was happy with my results. I have been a mizuno fan and tried a fitting with the pro 225 the JPX 923 forged then the Titleist t200 and the Ping i230. The Taylormade 770’s and the Mizuno pro 225 were very close but the 770’s consistency and feel won it for me. I definitely did not go in looking at Taylormade but… after the results I had I couldn’t turn them down.

      The P770 has to be the best hollow bodied iron on the market for feel, although it's smaller in profile than most others so the hollow cavity isn't as large so will feel nicer (less resonance).
      Glad you got fitted and enjoyed the process 👍

    After being a scratch golfer playing 5 days a week with my J36 blades I’m looking at these now that I’m getting back into golf maybe once a week since taking a break to get married, have kids, etc. they seem like a good middle ground from the blades I used to use and the huge clunky game improvement irons.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This would also mean that I would have to deliver the exact same speed and dynamic loft every time whilst consciously miss hitting the face to capture data. That's very very hard to do especially with the natural human element. I'd love to be able to do something like you say but could you give me a bit more detail on how you would like the data capture and also graphically what would be the most concise format to represent that data 👍

    I've been fitting more and more people into the 770 these days. The sole is no bigger than any other players CB, and the top line sits right in the middle of the players CB but you get the distance and forgiveness of the hollow body design. It's kinda the best of both worlds. Only down side is for faster swing speed guys it can go to far, while it's fun to hit your 7 iron 200+ yards it makes for huge gaps inbetween clubs and hard to gap your wedges correctly.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Absolutely agree, with high swing speed players more traditional lofts need applying if not you're quite right that you can land a plane between irons 😊 for the higher swing speed golfer the players distance category can be a dubious choice with this being common so the players cavity with less aggressive distance technology gives adequate forgiveness and sensible loft gaps 👍🏻

    I gamed the original P790’s as an 18 for years and they helped me improve to a 14 quickly. This past season, I moved up to a 16 playing on easier courses. Certainly not the clubs fault but this video makes me wonder if the 770’s would be a better fit. As always, thanks for the great review. I have a fitting scheduled at the end of Feb.

    • @dmkfactor1721
      @dmkfactor1721 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you’re a 16, these clubs won’t help you. They’re very unforgiving! Honestly, the P790s are too unforgiving for someone at your level too. I never would’ve fit you into any of those clubs. If you want forged them Srixon zx4, or the Paradym. You need game improvement irons for your game. Ultra forgiveness is your best friend and will help you lower those scores.

    One factor I'd like to see as a regular ingredient in all club reviews is how "bendable" they
    are. As any seasoned player would know, lofts and lies should be regularly checked since
    they are easily altered by the stresses of practice and play. This is especially true with
    forged heads, but not exclusively. And some manufacturers discourage bending due to
    a concern for cracking the hosel. These clubs have a forged face which is likely forge welded on a steel body. How would such a combination hold up to a "tweeking" every
    few months or so?

    I truly wish Mizuno would do a version of the the pro225 but with loft similar to the p770. I love the feel/look of the 225 but don’t need a 7 iron going 190-200 yards.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I somewhat agree with you. Unfortunately near all other manufacturers have over the years done the same thing and so Mizuno have had to follow suit due to the way most custom fitters push distance as a selling point. This is where I think Callaway have got it spot on with their new Apex series with all 3 models of iron spreading from the Pro, CB and MB having a 1 degree difference between them. Hopefully with Callaways marketing machine they can change other manufacturers minds and re-align their players range to become more like that 🤞🤞🤞

    • @huddwah

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Ball speed and launch is club head speed and dynamic loft. Spin rate is a mixture of ball used, and angle of attack. You can either have a climbing flight with a better descent angle or a rainbow flight which has less control going into a green due to the increased roll out (brilliant with Driver). Do you know your spin rares achieved although with top Tracer it's not always the best even at the best of times 🤷

    • @huddwah
      @huddwah 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @AskGolfNut I don't get numbers for spin or club speed from toptracer unfortunately...
      I asked Google bard (ai)... which said is could be all due to the range ball due to lower ball weight, very warn dimples ..
