    I've never seen a story on priests coming out as "heterosexual". This fixation on homosexuality is bizarre. Priests take a vow of celibacy in order to serve their parish. It is entirely irrelevant whether they find men or women attractive because they are vowing not to be in any relationship. They are married to the church.

      I agree. So basically the church is telling them how to live. I personally don't need or want anyone telling me how to live. The human race makes me laugh at times in that people will use their time and energy to argue or whatever about the dumbest crap instead of maybe using their time and energy to cure hunger, etc. And in the end, talking or arguing back and forth does nothing.

      if a preist encourages love based on facts not dogma, what ishe screaming ?If you are gay or know someone who is, this is important information! Sexual orientation is determined in the womb during fetus development. Various hormones are introduced at specific times to accomplish this .The fetus plays no part in this process. A person is, therefore, born with a predetermined attraction. It is, therefore, not a choice & consequently not a sin & not immoral. It is a natural expression of our species & found commonplace in nature. Intelligent research in this area clearly explains this process. If you are truly interested in truth, based on knowledge, the book Gay, Straight & the Reason Why by Dr. Simon Levay shows this with numerous research articles. If you want to understand the truth & have respect for yourself & others, this book will help. It also has, unlike the bible written over 2000 years ago by men that had no understanding of science, an extensive bibliography. I strongly recommend the book. The public must be exposed to facts & knowledge. It is an obligation for those who know the truth & must defend it. Don’t let the religious pull you down to their level of ignorance. Peace

      @jeffmonaghan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree it was well said, and it speaks to the timing of our culture when we are all seeking unconditional love so we can be forgiven. We need a home.
      How can the presbytery of the Catholic Church forgive our sins when they are sinful, too? Where do we turn for holiness? Where is our home?
      We find holiness in the Holy Family of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus. That's our home.
      God's divine love is found in a prayerful community of believers. We are tempted by our confusion to argue about traditions. But when we focus on God's revelation in the Holy Family, we are thunderstruck with humility and gently instructed on the sanctity of human life. God became man. We can't change what God has done. And why would we want to unless we were broken, afraid, and confused?
      Jesus was the first-born of a new Creation. We just don't accept Him yet, and we hang onto the darkness because it's a form of dramatic entertainment and a distraction from our own holiness. No one is rejecting gay people in the Catholic Church. We are all called to holiness because we were all born into the "blessed Holy Family" by a mother & father. They weren't gay. God, our source of life, sanctified the union between a sperm and an egg in a heterosexual relationship. God sanctified the Holy Family, our source of love and wisdom and leadership. This is why we Catholics emulate what God has already done.

      Your family whether biological or adopted family chose you. To belong to the church as a priest, you are called and you are formed. At the start you know the conditions so that you can discern if it is the place for you or not. Your superiors will be observing you and will determine if you should stay or be let go. I was raised Catholic, but I no longer follow the faith due to many reasons that I won't get into now. I have no issues with people choosing to live a gay lifestyle, but let's face it folks, the bible pretty much is against homosexuality, and these gay priests are choosing to change the rules for their own benefit. If I was a practicing Catholic, I would have a problem with a gay priest preaching to me. I'd have no problem with him forming his own ministry somewhere else and forming his own rules, but it wouldn't be based on the bible. This is no different than Ted Haggard preaching from the bible but living a different lifestyle. In the end, I stopped believing because I felt the bible is pretty much BS with people not really following the faith as it is written anyhow.

    The drama of exploring one's sexuality is in everyone's life. Whether of homosexual or heterosexual or bisexual orientation, all people are called to holiness. As a matter of fact, we all have life experiences, but a vocation to the priesthood is a spiritual journey. It's a very unique vocation. The Roman Catholic Church will not exalt gay unions because the Holy Family was not gay. God became human in the life between a man & a woman. It's well documented in the Gospels. The Catholic Church is built on the sanctity of human life as God revealed Himself to us: God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He was born of the Virgin Mary and became man. There's nothing gay there.
    Because of the incarnation of Jesus Christ, our salvation is won. Life begins at conception; everything is grace. We are the beneficiaries of some intense human suffering in the battle between good & evil. We are forgiven. You cannot change what God has already done. So, we live our lives as a Christian rooted in the Gospel. We Catholics will continue to purify our hearts by the power of the Holy Spirit and focus on the sanctity of the Holy Family of Joseph, Mary and Jesus. They weren't gay. And you can't spin that revelation to fit your narrative.
    To those who knock on the door of the Catholic Church and seek to change it, I say seek the Holy Spirit instead of institutional change, and everything you ask will be revealed to you. God loves us as we are, and calls us into right relationship with Him.

He left the seminary after about a month because he described it as a gay stalking ground, where gay Catholic men felt most safe to hide their sexuality in the cloaks of the priesthood. I must say that for me as a conflicted gay man at that time, it was a very tempting thought to enter the priesthood and hide from my sexuality. I just read that tons of priests have been using Grindr. This is why they need to use flip phones only, no smartphones. We are well suited to these communities to make the greater communities our families and to be of service to them. In some aboriginal cultures we served those roles openly as shamans. The tragedy is that the modern equivalents have decided we are evil, unworthy, so you get this bizarre situation in which those best suited to a life of spiritual service are discarded. You can't help but feel sorry for these young men and women who felt a spiritual calling which collided with another core of their identity.
