Absolutely love this. The self esteem building of these kids was so cool to watch. I have to think that every kid that walked out of that room had a renewed sense of self. Kudos to Rankin and his team! I will have to watch more of these Dream School vids.
They will. Now they are responding with focused attention, involvement, interest, invention, all those positive things. Rankin shows the kids respect and they instinctively understand that. What an inspiring video. Thanks.
some people have what it takes to teach. They inspire our generation and encourage us to do well and help us if we are struggling. Unfrotunatly there arnt a lot of people like this in teaching. These other people just tell their students to open their books and work through... Thats not what teachings about. Rankin has taken the right approach here I think. He started with his background and pretty much explaining to them why he was chosen to teach them.
i know right?! Id kill to be in a photography class being taught by Rankin! its nice to know a majority of these kids went on to better things... like the girl going on to be Lola in eastenders!
That's Phase One's Capture One software tethered to one of the Phase One systems, most likely the 645DF and the P65+ back. The lens is either a Schneider-Kreuznach 55 mm LS f/2.8 or the 80mm f/2.8 on AF (Autofocus). Lighting used are 4 lights. 1. Is a profoto pro head with a sheet of diffusing paper (or some kind of tracing paper) taped onto it being used above Rankin himself, held by an assistant. With a reflector bouncing fill in light from the profoto head below
they don't really realise, who Rankin is, I would give anything have a letter from him let alone a full lecture and a free headshot from him, i'm doing a ba In photography and rankin is one of my biggest inspiration.
It's amazing how you all connect. Awesome photo's (obviously). Love the Dream School, just what youth needs instead of the traditional boring BS education system :-)
2. Is a soft octobox positioned behind Rankin to his right 3 and 4 are two soft boxes positioned behind two black poly boards directed towards the background. Hope this helps anyone who was looking for this information, feel free to drop me some lines if you would like to know more. Andrew
Im pretty sure he means that if you don't have the tools to develop film, it could be expensive. The film itself is quite cheap like you said, yet if you don't have the means to develop those buggers, then I guess the costs could go high for JUST a photo. He also refers to digital camera's being cheaper for not having to go thru the development process.

Nobody knows or gives a shit who is now.
Seems like a genuinely decent bloke trying to make a difference.
his shots are amazing!
The program on the computer that Rankin was using is called Capture One Pro
The soft octobox is in the booth next to Rankin, so only 3 lights are being used with the reflector.
