Just a quick question, what microphone was being used for these demos?
â@@TrenierTrombone Hi, TrenierTrombone. Good question! That is the fantastic Shure KSM353/ED Ribbon microphone:
www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/KSM353--shure-ksm353-ed-bi-directional-ribbon-microphone
Ribbon mics are great choices for brass instruments as they can handle extremely loud sources and can round out some of the harshness from listening to a brass instrument very close-up.
If you have any other questions, just let me know!

I never seen a practice mute before
Getting back into playing trombone and I have to buy a cup mute for an upcoming gig. This guide helps a lot. Thanks and beautiful playing!
May I ask some question? If Trombone get the straight mute, ths sound volume will be much more small? in the media, I recognize pretty not, but cause I don't know the real difference, ask this qusetion. I'm sorry my English:)
Hey Ameno Bach, great questions! Straight mutes do slightly reduce the volume of the trombone. That is not their primary purpose, though. They are designed to alter the tone and give the trombone a different sound. If you are looking for a mute to reduce the volume, you would want a practice mute like this:
www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/STBP--strongbrass-practice-mute-for-trombone-and-flugelhorn-aluminum
This will make the trombone much quieter and will not alter the tone that much.
Feel free to give me a ring if you have more questions or want to look at other options!

@@sweetwater Wow...Thank you very much! Your reply comment is so good for my studying trombone and mute!
You forgot the bucket mute, mate
All I want to know goddammit is how I make the Debbie Downer Waaah waah sound
It's like the style of my melodies
But which mute produces that quiet nasally jazz trumpet type sound?
Harmon mute
Solotone is also in that vein but is darker in tone than the harmon mute.
