    The part "adjustment" helped me a lot. Now I am getting the grinding consitency which I need. Thank you very much!

    Very honest video on target. I use the same grinder cm 802 and I`m having all the issues you mentioned. I haven`t attempted to fine adjust the burr yet because I don`t think it`s a good idea. When I go beyond number 10, for example 5, grinder so is not able to work properly and get clogged most of the time. It has capability of grind finer but it doesn`t have the ability to push them out. Which is precisely reflected with your pump actions. It`s a good grinder when you use 10 and above settings, but when you go finer, it`s inevitable that you`ll experience issues. I feel kind of regret for buying this. I`m an espresso guy and this one doesn`t properly provide finer beans for espresso range, which is around 5.

    I am going to give you a huge thanks and give myself a huge facepalm.
    This was actually on the handbook but I had forgotten about it and if it wasn't for your video, I would never realise it.
    The factory settings were spot on to use in my Krups XP50000 something with unpressurized basket but whenever I tried it on the Delonghi Dedica, also with an unpressurized basket, the coffee was too coarse.
    I will try this at lunch and then post the results

    Al quitar los tornillos, el molido del café es más fino con diferéncia. Muchas gracias
    By removing the screws, the coffee grind is finer by far. Thank you very much

    I need advice and opinion to the Graef hobby barista community out here.
    Very nice video, I was waiting for this a long time.
    I use my Graef cm800 for 1 year now, and it is very inconsistent as well.
    I found 2 more problems and a fix.
    First I change the grind setting to filter coffee(very coarse) and then back to my espresso setting(without changing screw setting) then I check the grind. When I change the grind setting further to "way too fine" and change it back to my espresso setting, the grind size will be finer than before when I came from the coarser setting. It's kind of a memory effect from where I came from. The coffee sometimes tastes like earth when I don't pay attention to this. Very nice video, I was waiting for this a long time.
    Did you realize, that the grinder is very sensitive on how the burs are put in place?
    I have the feeling that I don't know which screw placement.
    I believe my screw setting is messed up so that I get a lot of very, very fine powder in addition to the grind setting. The grind size is changing, but it is like I am in the wrong "mode" and I should change screw setting about 180 degree or some arbitrary number I don't know. Or the grinder just is like this, and it always produces very fine powder in between the grind. This is why my coffee tastes WAY better when I use under exacting grind settings, because I have less powder in between.

      Thanks, interesting insights! The screw-based grind adjustment freaks me out because it's really hard to keep the track of. I only adjusted it once and left it there.

    I dont understand. You use level 10 for espresso, but on the first tip you say that it is for grinding even finer.. then why dont you use simply level 1 for espresso instead of 10 + the modification?

      I bought a set from Amazon for the bathroom, then realized that the small one is suitable for the grinder. You can take a look at single small ones after checking the dimensions.
      This was the bundle I bought back in the day: www.amazon.co.uk/nirox-Nirox-Plunger/dp/B07GRS83DD

    Hello, I bought mine one month ago on Amazon warehouse and I'm only getting 0,5gr of retention, 2gr seems to be quite a lot. Regarding consistency I'm not having any issue, maybe you should buy a new burr and clean your machine. Thanks for the video.

    • @ColorsofSoundYouTube
      @ColorsofSoundYouTube  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the feedback, very valuable information for people who are considering to buy this machine. I think most of my issues are due to the machine being almost 4 years old and not being maintained well enough.

    • @lelolain

      @@ColorsofSoundTH-cam Hello, yes probably. Open it completely and give it a real clean up. Burr are also really cheap for this machine so you should give it a try. Also you can buy the machine on Amazon for 60 euros (refurb).

      It’s trial and error, but do make the burr chamber adjustment I mention in the video.

  • @trimble42
    @trimble42 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you are pushing down, would that possibly be tightening the grinding gap also, and you could do your number 1 hack with slightly more turner s as nd lick the screws back in place?

    • @ColorsofSoundYouTube
      @ColorsofSoundYouTube  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely, the moment I realized the difference after pushing down, my game has stepped up with this grinder.

  • @thomass715

    How many of the adjustment dots on the outside of the machine would you say is the equivalent of one screw hole?

    • @ColorsofSoundYouTube
      @ColorsofSoundYouTube  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately it's really hard to answer... I just made 1 adjustment on the burr and used it continuously as it was possible to grind both for espresso and filter coffee on that setting.

  • @yossiperl7424
    @yossiperl7424 ปีที่แล้ว

    I tried it. At first it did grind a lot finer and my coffee got a lot better, but after a few days coffee stopped coming out of the grinder. I guess the fine powder clogged it. I cleaned it and took out some of the washers which got me back to a not fine enough coffee.
    I wouldn't recommend this grinder to anyone wanting to grind for espresso. It's a poor choice.
