Clarification of the nature of faith might be useful. I once lost my 'faith' but in hindsight all I lost were passive vague feelings. Faith is an action of will , a choice that can disregard involuntary, irrational mood. I found that helpful in finding faith again (or the 1st time). The Act of Faith. It is a muscle in a way. Sincerely, random sinner

Yes Faith is an "action" term. If you don't exercise it, then you don't possess it. Its not a "thought" term but a DO term. This is what I discovered about my denomination. A lot of talk, no action. Just works of the flesh. And yet people all around me thought they were "saved" by "grace". Grace is metted out to those who SHOW their "faith" and DO what is required. (Moral Commandments). The works or rituals of the flesh is what is rejected by our Father. I.e. going TO church, weekly prayers meetings that never amount to anything, tithing which only benefits the preacher, volunteering to work like a dog at the "church" which benefits no one in need, etc. I got sick of the whole ridiculous phoney game and discovered the truth by reading the Bible for myself using a lexicon. I'll never step foot in another one of these structures created by men and never ordained or required by God. Pure waste of time. My money goes to whom I choose needs it; and I refuse these ridiculous pagan holidays passed off as "holy" days. Absolutely nothing biblical about any of it. I got off the broad road and found the narrow way. It was lonely at first but more and more people have joined in walking the same path I am. There truly is pure freedom away from "religion. God never created any religion, men did. We are to LIVE out faith daily and that is our witness not a bunch of empty words and fancy dress up on SUNday to prove to everyone how holy we think we are. Same rituals day in day out, year in year out, generation after generation until several mellinia have passed and the people still living in the same sin and have never gotten true victory over any of it. (Because they've been taught they don't have to Because someone else already covered it all for them. The biggest lie ever perpetrated on mankind.

Right, many of the great works of English literature (and other languages) are bursting with Christian wisdom, with a godly view of life and its purpose and what makes it true and good. The Bible is the where the Word can be heard, and our words in novels and poetry are their best when they reflect it.
True understanding is to kneel before God. All true knowledge points to the mystery and love of Christ. The intellect and the emotions and the body are to be given for God, who made them. Simply follow Jesus

For some time the kids aren't being taught to read as much as my generation. That's the lessons are not being learned. The kids are now making those mistakes and supporting ideologies that roll back the lessons hard to learn from history

All those authors mocked the old male moralist, the tedious self-important professor, the overly elaborate use of words to impress, and the spoiled wealthy overly ernest depressive. In short, Peterson represents the very opposite of a moral life. The Austens, Hugo, Elliott, Dostoyevsky and any of those voices would have made Peterson a figure of fun, he is a lonely tragic parody of himself.

For the intellectual Understanding comes before Believing. If sought in an objective way one can arrive at a Belief in GOD, the Creator. This is arrived at through much diverse reading & contemplation .
This process is described by Cant in his Critique of Pure Reason Chapter lll - Of the Ultimate End of the Natural Dialectic of Human Reason.
With so much information at our disposal there is no excuse for being ignorant or dogmatic. The journey if undertaken is fascinating with many unforeseen turns along the way. GOD Bless all who travel along this pathway and may 2025 be peaceful & prosperous for You.

    (written in haste...)
Re understanding versus belief - and which come first.. Surely we necessarily move through both at different times, and at different intensities, throughout our lives.
God has given us tools of poetry and creativity, the capacity to see beauty and feel awe, all of which contribute to our openness to spiritual experience - a "knowing there is something beyond/more". This is surely where a child starts, even if there is a period/s of rejection. God has given us powers of questioning and analysis and observation which we will and must apply, be it a hazard to belief.
We must each negotiate a path through belief and doubt toward understanding. But this is not a linear path, since it ia a path of the mind, which means we may revisit the past and bring it with us at any time, ands likewise step into the future through our dreams.
((btw JP... that chair makes you look here as though you gave tense, raised shoulders. I think its the similar tone of the suit and chair ))

@harley7356 "Paganism" is an ethnic slur used in a genocide of Europe. It's Indo European religion, objectively in the same family as living traditions like Zoroastrianism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Ossetianism, etc. You're right that Christianity is a liability. You're wrong about Indo European religion, a tree must have it's roots. These are the roots of Europe. Reject Yahwism, embrace, reform, reignite and renew native European tradition, religion and culture. It is the only thing that will save Europe, both East, West and beyond.

Very weak argument I agree. What got my goat the most is his claim that the falling birthrate is due to sexual hedonism. A much bigger factor is economic - you only have to find one of the plethora of "why I am leaving the UK" videos, and hearing the stories of frustration and exasperation from young men and women who know the only way they'll ever have a house, career and family is if they emigrate. The system, of which Peterson's interviewer is an exemplar has not just failed them, but has utterly and wilfully betrayed them. I was initially inspired by Peterson but his head is so far up his butt now.
