  • The 2016 Cadillac CTS-V joins the 200-mph club thanks to its 640-hp, 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine, but it’s far more than just a straight-line bruiser. Watch contributor Lawrence Ulrich push the CTS-V to its limits on Wisconsin’s challenging Road America circuit.

    I see people stating that a CTS V is not a young person's car. I own one and I am 34 yrs old. Bought my all Blacked Out 2013 CTS V when I was 32 yrs old. Love what Cadillac is doing. Many young people love the Cadillac CTS V. Luxury, Control, and Power! No, I am not rich... I know how to manage my money... Also, people do not judge a car you never have seen face to face nor have driven... Keep that in mind...

      +3Vimages Yes it is American, & has only been around since 1902, Is that long enough? Cadillac was the first American car to win the Royal Automobile Club of England's Dewar Trophy
      successfully demonstrating interchangeability of its component
      parts during a reliability test in 1908; this spawned the firm's slogan
      "Standard of the World".

      Bo Vorachack Dude, AWD sucks for real drivers. Trust me. Let's objectively look at 911s. Turbos are for orthodontists and aren't seen ever in a race. GT3s are RWD and are THE car to have in a race. It all depends on if you're wanting to enjoy the drive. When you have to put power through the front wheels, you have to over boost the steering so the torque isn't jerking the wheel out of your hands. This extra boost takes away feel. It's a good lesson to learn before you buy an expensive AWD car and then learn. (By the way, I've had a lot of both.)

    • @vernonprice5986
      @vernonprice5986 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bo Vorachack Trap speeds son. The E63 AMG is not hitting 126 mph trap speeds like the CTS-V, which means it's slower than the CTS-V. It is literally the amount of speed achieved inside of a 1/4 mile, and the CTS-V achieves more speed in the same distance. That is the literal definition of "faster".

    • @pctshooter
      @pctshooter 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jared Cullop Did you intentionally say " Turbos are for orthodontists and aren't seen ever in a race"? I agree with everything else.

      3Vimages I do agree, but hell, you wont drive these things 10yrs. Im questioning myself if I would really have money, is it really worth it (looks aside) to spend much more money just so that your fingers appriciate better engineered knobs or buttons. I seriously doubt this will "squeel" like old Fiat in couple of years.Maybe I just need to try it myself :)

      Buy an out of warranty M5 and have fun with that German engineering. Cadillacs are some of the best built and most reliable cars you can buy. Period! They're pretty much on part with Mercedes and Porsche. They're definitely better than BMW and won't cost you the price of a used car to maintain after the warranty is up. And as for Audi? I hope you have a spare car while it's going in and out of the shop for repairs.

    All the cars like this are great whether it be the CTS-V, RS7, E63 AMG or M5, it just comes down to your personal preference. The performance is meaningless really, one you can't drive like that anywhere and two the average buyer of these cars has no interest in racing anyone anyway. The odds some 55 year old cardiologist or senior VP is running around the streets racing people in these cars are pretty slim.

    Phenomenal car. It is a lot closer to the M/AMG/RS than i thought it would be. This guy needs to do his research though. With less horsepower and more weight the competition still beats that car. With 650hp it should've done better. But i am not hating i think the CTS-V and the ATS-V will be in the top 10 vehicles for this year. 👍 GM

    While I agree with him on the CTS-V handling better than a Dodge Charger Hellcat, I don't totally agree with him on the other performance metrics he said are better. 0-60 mph, 1/4 mile times, braking, and even fun to drive kind of goes to the Hellcat, just saying, but love both the cars. Hellcat cheaper by $15-20k too and more hp for bragging rights, lol.

      Will Dawson Real drivers...lol...okay first I'm a Cadillac guy. Most people drag race their cars. Fewer still track $50-$100k.

    • @whechi
      @whechi 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dario Molina yea a testimony to how few good drivers there are. Drag racing = taking 90% of the variables out of what driving actually is. You can argue what you prefer (probably influenced by your skill level) but there is no arguing that it takes the awareness of way more variables to go around a track. I know plenty that take their much more than $100k cars to the track. Granted they're not enough of them but that can be said about any class.

    • @whechi
      @whechi 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dario Molina those variables are the ones overlooked by the hellcat and svt engineers and have been overlooked by all American brands until GM performance got its shit together and stopped having individual divisions hold others back. Now they just all have to prove themselves.

    • @lotterynj
      @lotterynj 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Will Dawson Aftet the bail out GM has done well overall. Hell the only losing brand is Cadillac,down again overall to the Luxury market. Only in China is it up. No manual transmission for this beast is hilarious but it must appeal to a greater market. They need to offer it as an order option. The most track cars around me on my track days are Honda Civics, Mazda Miatas,Mustangs,Camaros....every now and then BMWs,AMG E63...thats about it. Drag racing....dear lord..every thing under the sun...Outside of professional racing...American car companies have focus on market share and profits. GM decided it wanted to outhandle the Germans in the Luxury market....but they stop focusing on what matters...fit and finish..details of panel gaps...hence why Cadillac is down over all compared to other brands in the Luxury Market. More young people want to track there cars but price is getting outrageous but it cheap to drag race...

      bassicuk1986 fair enough. They are quick. Although stock z06's have beaten nismo GTRs that cost 20k more. More money for about the same performance and a shitty sounding engine? No thank you.

    • @vernonprice5986
      @vernonprice5986 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      bassicuk1986 I know you were only joking, but this is not the first CTS-V. The previous CTS-V, which came out in 2009, broke the world record for the fastest 4-door Nurburgring lap. Making cars that are very fast and handle very well is not actually new to GM. This is just the latest iteration of an already solid platform.

    the cadillac cts v is not the performance king of sedans thats the audi rs7

    • @vernonprice5986
      @vernonprice5986 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kenneth Martin Based on what direct comparison? The RS7 costs a lot more but it sure as hell doesn't handle or brake better, and it's not as fast either. I mean the RS7 is down almost 100 HP to the CTS-V, what kind of crack are you smoking? The RS7 is hundreds of lbs heavier than the CTS-V too, I mean the CTS-V absolutely CRUSHES the RS7 in a straight line. And then crushes it in every other way too.

    • @kennethmartin8124
      @kennethmartin8124 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vernon Price the audi rs7 has awd it does 0-60 in 3.2 seconds stupid dumbass the audi rs7 is far better than the cadillac,its faster, i own an audi rs7, it has a better interior and more trunk space, more tech, the audi rs7 kills the cts v in performance the cadillac cts is a poor man audi rs7, European cars are better than american cars thats the truth

    • @vernonprice5986
      @vernonprice5986 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kenneth Martin You're really stupid. 0-60 time is not a valid performance measurement because it's 100% dependent on traction and you're comparing an AWD car to a RWD car. Do you see the problem or do I have to explain it to you like you're stupid?
      The CTS_V has 100 more HP than the RS7 and weighs hundreds of lbs less. Do you understand any of that? Preliminary basic drag strip testing was putting its trap speeds at 126 MPH, and that's conservative. The RS7 can't even break 123, and that's with the advantage of perfect traction. The CTS-V blows the tires off the car and EASILY hits 126.
      Because you're probably too stupid to understand what trap speeds mean, it is an indicator of the speed achieved within a specific distance, in this case a 1/4 mile. The CTS_V can hit a higher speed inside of that 1/4 mile distance than the RS7 can, by a significant amount. So guess what that means?
      You think about it and get back to me. You owning an RS7 doesn't change the laws of math and physics.

    • @vernonprice5986
      @vernonprice5986 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kenneth Martin Yes... I know it has AWD, captain obvious. Did you not read my post at all? Do you still not understand that 126 is a higher number than 123?
      Let's start with that. Let's prove that you can count. Tell me which number is higher: 126? Or 123? We'll move onto more complex subjects after you've correctly answered that question.
      And by the way the OLD CTS-V's top speed was 191 - faster than the RS7 - but the NEW CTS-V's top speed is 200.
      Let's see if you can tell me which number is higher there, too. Oh the irony of you not being able to count, and calling me uneducated.

    • @kennethmartin8124
      @kennethmartin8124 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vernon Price ur uneducated cuz u dont know the audi rs7 and u dont own one, i do, and it better than the cts v, the caddy is overated, top sepeed dont matter cuz we dont have an autobhan, do ur research the audi rs7 is the most consistent sports sedan on the road
