    I think custodial costumes are white because that makes them super easy to bleach. Kind of like how hotels use all white bedding now.

      That's a really good point, I hadn't thought about bleach

    I was Recreation on the 7 Seas (Poly and Grand) in my DCP years ago. BEST. ROLE. EVER!!!! We basically chilled on the boats all day, ran cabanas and captained private fireworks cruises at night. So chill. So fun!

    I picked up a convention guide shift for the wine and dine marathon and all i did was stand at a corner and tell the runners to turn and I cheered. I loved it hahah!

    Thank you so much for making this video!
    I’ve been accepted to DCP Spring 2023 and I’m trying to gather as much info as possible!
    I’m actually submitting an online audition for Character performers this week. I’m also applying for some Production Assistant internships too.

    Very interesting and unique video topic 😊 nicely researched as well
    Convention guide used to be a fairly common extra hours/pickup shift, not sure how it is now (I was last a cm in ‘17)
    It was a lot of weddings, private parties where they’d rented out say one of the Epcot islands for fireworks viewing, company gatherings, etc.
    But we did literally lead people through the parks at times lol - for instance we would have to meet a bus full of wedding guests at their backstage drop off point and lead them to wherever their reception location was. Very interesting shifts, easy w/ a lot standing around talking most of the time. Not really a role you could get permanently assigned, even as a regular cast member because I definitely asked lol
    Also I notice you left out theaters, ie shows like FOLK and Nemo. While I was there all of this was reorganized under new umbrellas, which is why some of them are kind of 🤔, but theaters (at DAK anyway) are also considered Attractions. As was everything on the island that wasn’t merch or F&B, so bug’s life
    Because of the reorg I ended up with custodial training as well and yes, it is probably the best role in the parks. Especially at DAK

    • @CarolyninFantasyland
      @CarolyninFantasyland  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Based on your description, it sounds like convention guide shifts have been renamed to parade audience control (PAC) shifts which is pretty cool. Also I had no idea that theaters and attractions used to be considered separate categories - I lowkey always though they were part of attractions lol🤷‍♀️

    Quick correction for costuming, sometimes you are helping characters get dressed! My friend did costuming at Festival of the Lion King on her cp and she got to help the monkeys with their costumes

    I heard from someone that it doesn’t necessarily matter what your résumé says about your experience, and that they just randomly put people in places.. Is that true?

    • @CarolyninFantasyland
      @CarolyninFantasyland  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It’s really hit or miss. For my application group, it was more so based on your major/area of study but it definitely varies. It all comes down to how many spots Disney has in a given role/location

  • @calliegrace3278
    @calliegrace3278 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Do you need any previous cosmetology experience to be considered for a fairy godmother apprentice? It’s my dream role and I want to make sure I have the best chances!

    • @CarolyninFantasyland
      @CarolyninFantasyland  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Nope! Disney will kinda ignore that experience cause they’re going to give you all the certifications they need - I would prioritize working with children over cosmetology experience but then again I’m not a Disney recruiter so I can’t 100% say what their looking for

    • @CarolyninFantasyland
      @CarolyninFantasyland  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Unfortunately there's no real hack to get sent to one location vs. another. They'll put you wherever they need a body based on where space has opened up. I've done the program twice now and was placed at a resort the first time around and a park the second when my application was the exact same both times

    I heard there was no way to rank your role choices after Covid. Do they ever plan to bring that back? I’m planning on applying for 2024, is there any way to subtly ask for a role or deny roles? I have back issues and can’t lift heavy objects so my worry is that I would get a role like house person and I would die in that position - is the only way out a doctors note? Will they deny me if I have physical ailments but everything else is stellar in my interview and resume? I want to work here so bad but I would hate to have to term because I can’t physically do a role

    • @CarolyninFantasyland
      @CarolyninFantasyland  ปีที่แล้ว

      So on the actual application there is no way to rank or indicate interest in roles you have to be open to them all but there are some ways around being placed in certain roles once accepted. Disney will outright ask you if you feel comfortable being a life guard as part of your acceptance process, if you say yes you’re pretty much going to be a life guard.The only other thing you can do is submit a medical accommodation request. Basically just get a doctor to sign a note saying you can/cannot do certain things and Disney won’t place you in roles that are affected. You can only submit a request once you’ve been accepted though. Hope this helps!

      There are tons of Resort/non them park roles. Front desk concierge, bell services, club level lounge, and housekeeping are the ones that are resort exclusive but you can also work custodial, food and beverage, and merchandise at resorts as well! They also have lifeguard, children’s activities, and watercraft positions at resorts too

    • @CarolyninFantasyland
      @CarolyninFantasyland  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      From what I’ve gathered it’s a very chill and laid back role with a lot of independence which is really unique for Disney. The major downside is you don’t get to go inside- you’re in the sun all day but that’s the same for a lot of roles at Disney (also MK f&b gets a pay premium 👀)

    • @CarolyninFantasyland

    once you're placed into a specific role, is that your only role for your whole time at the DCP? or can you switch roles?

    • @CarolyninFantasyland
      @CarolyninFantasyland  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Once you get your role that's where you're staying unless you get a medical accommodation or extend into a premium services role (those aren't advertised on the website as they can only be gotten as extensions). If you get placed at epcot festivals or espn wide world of sports they might displace you for a few weeks in-between festivals or sporting events but you role can't change

      @@CarolyninFantasyland thank you for responding!! i just applied and have a phone interview in a couple weeks so I’m trying to find out as much as possible beforehand! what is considered a medical accommodation or premium services role?

    • @CarolyninFantasyland
      @CarolyninFantasyland  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      a good example of a medical accommodation would be “I just had back surgery and I can’t lift more than 15 lbs so I can’t be in bell services.” you do have to provide a doctors note for medical accommodations. there are a couple premium service extension roles such as a minnie van driver, the galactic starcruiser, vip tours assist, guest relations, and the wilderness explorers. those roles will never automatically be assigned to you - you have to apply for them once you’re on your program and interview for a spot
