    Excellent how-to video. You made it look very easy to restring the blinds. I appreciate your going step-by-step very slowly. Using a dark colored cord is a great idea. It made it very easy to see the operation of the blind. I can't wait to get the cord.

    The "wire re-string tool" was a priceless piece of advice! I made one out of strained wire, and it worked like a charm! If you are restringing one side, make sure it is the same thickness of the string on the other side. If not, make sure you to restring both!

    Thanks, great video! I did notice one thing that looked like a minor mistake. At ~ 5:23 when threading the cord into the cord lock, I believe the cord should go through the incoming channel (opening in the plastic) like the other cord does, not over the top of it. I checked another existing blind in my house and confirmed that it was that way in that non-DIY'd blind.

    Thank you for showing me how to restring a mini blinds. The sample on your video was a small size. It was easy to follow step by step. But my blind size is 64" W x 93"L. I got it on the restring part, but I mess up with the latch at the end. i could only pull up the blinds but not able to pull it down. Could someone show me how to set up the final 4 strings that would make my mini blind operated properly & smoothly please.

    • @fixmyblinds
      @fixmyblinds  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Judy, I'm glad that you got the blind restrung. The locking device can be tricky. Be sure that the strings are not overlapping or tangled/twisted at all. All the strings should lay flat and go between the stationary smooth roller and the moveable rough roller. If you are still having trouble, please send a picture of your cord lock to me at service@fixmyblinds.com. I'll be happy to take a look and give specific advice. ~ Gretchen

    Hi i used the first method but my new string broke after less than a week, any ideas why that would happen? I should add that the old string shot up after I removed the bottom button and I had the manually thread the old string down the blinds before fusing it with the new string, however, I did not switch sides every 3 slacks when i was threading it, could that be the reason why my new string broke soon aftewards?

    • @fixmyblinds
      @fixmyblinds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, Are your blinds a cordless operation? That means that you push/pull on the bottom rail to raise and lower them. If so, we don't recommend replacing the string on those.

    • @fixmyblinds
      @fixmyblinds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Harry, There are horizontal-laying strings that the slats rest on. When you install new lift cord, you want to put the lift cord on the right side of these horizontal strings for three slats and then on the left side of the horizontal strings for three slats. Repeat this pattern for the whole blind. This keeps the slats in place during operation. If you have any additional questions, please post here or email us at service@fixmyblinds.com.

    Is there a way to lengthen or add extra blinds or slats to an existing blind? Two blinds are 4” short but I have plenty of extra slats from other blinds I could use to possibly lengthen the short ones.

    • @fixmyblinds
      @fixmyblinds  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Charles - Yes! You can add slats. You just have to replace the string ladder so that it is long enough to accommodate the additional slats. You may need to also put new lift strings in depending on if they are long enough or not.

    • @bamamike1013
      @bamamike1013 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      FixMyBlinds Thank You! Can I cut some of the string ladder from existing blinds and add to the one I want to lengthen? Assuming I can tie the string ladders together to lengthen, or maybe burn together? Wish there was a video.

    • @fixmyblinds

      Charles, You can melt the ladders together - or even sew them! Of course, that's not the "right" way to do the repair, but it will certainly work.

  • @KitariKitsune

    So I literally just need to repair the pull chord (not restring the entire blinds) my cat chewed through it since it was dangling down. So to reattach the part he chewed off to the rest of the pullstring, will reattaching the ends by burning and melting them together (as shown in the video) work as a sturdy reattachment?

    • @fixmyblinds
      @fixmyblinds  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Thanks for your questions. You can melt the two pieces of pull cord back together. It's not a permanent solution but will work for a time. If you need a new length of pull cord, we do sell those here: www.fixmyblinds.com/2-2mm-string-white-soft-braid-6682.html.

    Burning the ropes together just doesn’t work

    • @fixmyblinds
      @fixmyblinds  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Arne, Melting the strings together only works if both cords are made from synthetic material like polyester or nylon. If the cord has any cotton in it, they won't melt and will just burn. In that case, the blind will need to be restrung by hand instead of being able to just connect the old and new strings and pull them through the blind.
