Kempff’s Schumann was so individual and special - his Eusebius so dreamy but his Florestan so noble.

I don't know if young pianists listen to wilhelm kempf these days but but they definitely should... Powerful and inspiring. I only went thru the opus 9 and the Symphonic Etudes but both are a reminder of how close Schumann is to Beethoven and Schubert, stressing the unity beyond the diversity of the musical pieces that make up each album. Thanks a lot.

Pianists don’t become much greater than WK. His recorded output is limited to rather few composers but cannot be more important. Among my favorite is his own transcriptions of Bach.

Je me souviens que lors de la parution du Schumann de Kempff, les critiques ont tous dénigré ou dans le meilleur des cas, émis des réserves. Honte sur eux. Ces versions n'ont pas pris une seule ride. Par contre tous ces critiques sont oubliés (à juste titre). Kempff, lui, est inoubliable.
