Oh, my. Master Kempff's playing is so precise, I find myself holding my breath. What control of phrasing, length of notes, the pedal!! It would take me a lifetime to achieve this sound, let alone master all 32 sonatas as he did.
Beethoven's piano sonatas are amongst the greatest achievments of western civilisation and Kempff's playing does them justice. Bravo for uploading this video!
I think your appraisal is no exaggeration. Along with the quartets, this music esp. on repeated listening seems to transcend earthly existence. Beethoven's staggering genius is a great mystery, seems impossible.
Thank you for including the scores. I don't play piano but reading these scores along with the music is a tremendous aid for sustaining my continued ability to sight read. I play guitar. 55 yrs and counting. When reading the scores it blows my mind that anyone can play these sonatas.
Das ist unglaublich! 32 Beethoven-Sonaten mit ihren jeweiligen Partituren. Jetzt kann ich stundenlang mein Notenlesen üben. Ich bin sehr dankbar für Ihre großartige Arbeit. Fabelhaft!
Thank you. What a great gift to all of us. I have Kempff playing the 32 on CD, but am moderately deaf now, and can only hear with Bluetooth. Am reading the scores simultaneously! Lucky us. Huge thanks to PianoJFAudioSheet.
I'm sorry to hear that (no pun intended). Ironically, I've always avoided Bluetooth headphones to protect my ears. Maybe one day, I won't have a choice either.
Your work is a gift to generations to come. Just 30 years ago who could imagine that such a magnificent reference work would be accessible from your pocket, to be heard and studied at will,
Thanks so much for this. Maybe it won't get as many viewings as the cat videos but, for me, it's one of the most exciting videos I've seen this year. Seriously, many thanks !
Wilhelm Kempff has been criticised for his playing of Beethoven. "Beethoven must be played without emotion" seems to be this consensus. Of course, this is nonsense. His playing is subtle and careful, but listening to them all shows that he performs as expressively as any other. Some recordings never go out of date!
Thanks for this! I believe this Kempff stereo set is the best traversal of the 32 on record. I like Schnabel a lot but this seems so personal and intimate and introspective, and understated.
Thank you so much for these fantastic, heirloom Recordings!! Hearing a Great Artist (with whom we were not previously familiar) WITHOUT COMMERCIAL INTERRUPTIONS is Priceless beyond any Words! Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! Robert and Patricia Kendel
This second attempt at the complete recording of Beethoven 32 Piano Sonatas by Wilhelm Kempff in the 1960's set the standard in classical recording industry.
Actually his THIRD attempt - the first started in the 1930s and continued into the 1940s. I have the second (early 50s mono) on CD, so this adds his last attempt,
This is the fourth recording by kempff. Before this, there was another live recording in Tokyo in 1961 plus encores. I like this live recording than the recording studio ones.
😇🍾🥂 Extraordinary! I never thought I should see such a miraculous treat and resource as this. I was listening to Wilhelm Kempff recently (playing a Schubert Impromptu - but no matter; for the same applies) and I realised that Kempff considers all the options that lesser pianists present as their final word... and then he thinks, "No, that's too obvious. Let me find something more subtle, more organic, more cohesive, more natural, more...spontaneous? No. But more seemingly spontaneous? Oh yes". This is the wisdom of great musical minds: making us feel as if we have grasped what they have to tell us for a lifetime, and yet it seems so new - so fresh - that it is as if we ourselves had been born afresh. The scales have fallen from our eyes. Kempff is peerless. Buy you a coffee? If I could, I'd take the money the BBC in Britain demands from me each year for the privilege of owning a television, and I'd give it all to people like you.
This is astonishing. I’m really excited for this. I always use youtube to listen to music on my phone and i will finally be able to listen to multiple different sonates without having to take it out. Also i get to hear new interpretations of my favorite works of my favorite composer. And i love long videos. Thank you for your hard work, your output is insane.
wow!! well, you wouldn't believe I had this gargantuous project an year or before with kempff on piano, as one of my AMBITIOUS, but I'm a very very lazy guy to edit the score, I mean to edit, syncing is an easy job, but to cut splice images, so, I've left so many projects such cage etudes, xenakis gmeeroah, this thing, and I have still a lot more projects to do, which are humongous too in nature, anyways you have saved my energy and time and a great video indeed
Kempff , Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor "Pathétique", Op. 13 ... His performance of this Sonata especially, is not to be missed. It is arguably the finest performance of this sonata, within the recording era. His performances in general are always among my favorites for Beethoven however, even when not my very favorite. Such as Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor "Moonlight", Op. 27, No. 2, for which I hail Philippe Entremont as undisputedly masterful, in my humble opinion.
I was friends with a minor concert pianist who mixed with major concert pianists. He said that, if they are to give a performance they obviously practice with the music in front of them. Only then do they perform. I remember early performances of Kempff, and he was said to perform with music open, which I notice is becoming increasingly common.
Аll Beethoven piano sonatas, and even with score, and even performed by the best, in my opinion, interpreter of Beethoven sonatas Wilhelm Kempf, this is grandiose. Thank you, you are extraordinarily kind.
To the person reading this.. don't worry.. the pain you are feeling is only temporary, close your eyes and remember that tomorrow is a new day, a new beginning! Take a deep breath, you'll be fine! I promise I wish you a lifetime of happiness, peace and prosperity!
Bravo!!! Muchas gracias
fantastic This is probably the slowest I've heard a recording of the fourth movement of the 12th Sonata and it still sounds wonderful. Others tend to fly through it and it made me think I'd never get it fast enough, but if I can make it sound more like this it gives me hope :)
Regarding Kempff's live complete ecording in Tokyo in 1961, there was a brief introduction about Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas by Kempff himself in German after the first piano Sonata recording. The encores include the works by Mozart, Brahms, Beethoven's piano piece and kempff's transcription of Bach's works
What a gem ! 🙂🎹. I also treasure his Goldberg Variations, which " stopped me in my tracks " when I heard it for the first time , many years ago 🎹💕🎼. 🇬🇧🦉🎼🥀🎹🙂💕🎼🎹🇬🇧
First, I would tut tut piano mavens who insist that Kempff’s 1950s mono set is more spontaneous and even better recorded than this cycle from the early ‘60s. With all respect, that opinion took hold when the mono box was difficult to obtain. There are collectors who always prefer elusive discs. When DG made both sets widely available it seemed clear to me that Kempff in the early ‘50s was often flinty and dare I say somewhat superficial. The German critic Joachim Kaiser agreed. If you want spontaneous Kempff look for his ‘30s discs on Dante or APR. For Kempff in his Goethe phase - lofty but lighthearted, the Goethe of Hesse in Steppenwolf - live with these. And they don’t lack drama; compare this Waldstein and Arrau’s. With the anguished Chilean there is doubt the sun will ever rise again. Kempff is always suffused with light. Different as they were Arrau embraced Kempff. I do too. Thanks so much for posting with the scores and timings. What a gift in these benighted times.
Andorsagi--You're forgetting one thing, that musicians eat, too. So, maybe not all...but I know what you mean. I might change the word 'free' to 'heard'. Then again, not all.🥸
If you realize, Liszt was inspired by the beginning of the 4th movement of the pastoral sonata. I mean in his Pastorale of the Annees de pelerinage I he uses the same theme

sheet music???
All 32 Beethoven piano sonatas in one video with a score?! Good job my friend. Adding this to my bookmark!
and by kempff🎉🎉❤❤
And it's by Kempff
by kempff moreover !
Thanks to Beethoven too. You really couldn't have done it without him!
@@tomaserrazuriz4381 I know he is no Schnabel, but he is trying.
And for making the effort in doing so. It is much easier to explore his sonatas on the one video like this.
I became a fan of Wilhelm Kempff in the 60's and haven't changed my mind! Deutsche Grammophon had such good quality vinyl and such great performers!
I study with Wilhelm Kempff in Positano...

What luck!
This should be on EVERY Music Teacher's reference list. To hear a master play while watching the score - priceless.
L'intégrale des 32 sonates jouées par un grand beethovenien avec en plus la partition, c'est magnifique. Merci pour ce grand cadeau.
One of the greatest score videos ever, I could never imagine somebody doing this; thanks a lot!
Also it's Urtext Henle so highest quality for free!
Possibly one of the greatest musical achivments... just wow.
Bravo!
Your work is a gift to generations to come. Just 30 years ago who could imagine that such a magnificent reference work would be accessible from your pocket, to be heard and studied at will,
This score and music matching must have taken a lot of your time. You certainly deserve my respect.
This is SUCH a great GIFT! Thank you for doing this!!
This is fantastic material. It must have taken you so much time - thanks from me and everyone who will study from it over the years to come.
EXCELLENT collection of Beethoven's piano sonatas in one album 👍💯❤
Absolutely brilliant such monumental task of compiling Beethoven's sublime work and talent. Brilliant, thank you.
❤
Thanks so much for this. Maybe it won't get as many viewings as the cat videos but, for me, it's one of the most exciting videos I've seen this year. Seriously, many thanks !
Wilhelm Kempff has been criticised for his playing of Beethoven. "Beethoven must be played without emotion" seems to be this consensus. Of course, this is nonsense. His playing is subtle and careful, but listening to them all shows that he performs as expressively as any other. Some recordings never go out of date!
Literally nobody has ever said that Beethoven should be played without emotion.
THE BEST 10H OF MUSIC IN MY LIFE
There would be a ton of work compiling this. Thank you for the gift.
ベートーベンのソナタの全集なんて素敵です!こんなにあるんですね。楽譜付きで、素晴らしいです。Thank you for sharing.

Kempff is just insanely out of this world in the third sonata.
Fantastic throughout and well worth all the listening time. The ending with the terrifying No 32 was fantastic; incredible. Loved it played by Kempff.
Much appreciated! Kempff I think is the best so far for interpreting Beethoven. All sonatas in one clip and with sheets rolling over!
Good ol' Wilhelm Kempff. Great performances, great sound for old mono recordings.
You can listen to this heavenly music to infinity.
Kempff and Beethoven, in my opinion a perfect match!
A colossal undertaking!
Congratulations and thank you!
Kempff , Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor "Pathétique", Op. 13
Complete timestamps included, thank u very much🙂👍
I feel a pure blissful with this music and score thanks a lot for doing this
uff, what a colossal post, thanks for the effort
How one human can be able to play this much music at one time is beyond me
I'm not sure that he actually played it all straight through...
@@GreenTeaViewer Do you sincerely believe that's what I meant? I mean he has the ability to play all 32 Sonatas at any given time. Not at once.
@@MildSatire
I was friends with a minor concert pianist who mixed with major concert pianists. He said that, if they are to give a performance they obviously practice with the music in front of them. Only then do they perform. I remember early performances of Kempff, and he was said to perform with music open, which I notice is becoming increasingly common.
@@ralphwortley1206 Interesting…every concert pianist I see goes by memory
Thanks, I had a hard time finding the 31st one. Seeing it laid out in sheet music helped me find it more easily.
Grand merci pour consolidation en un vidéo! Super travail
Now I can say I've heard every single Beethoven sonata!
Аll Beethoven piano sonatas, and even with score, and even performed by the best, in my opinion, interpreter of Beethoven sonatas Wilhelm Kempf, this is grandiose. Thank you, you are extraordinarily kind.
This is my classic version all 32 Sonates played by Kempff,s fingers I knew and heard the best collection Sonates Piano with great pianist W.Kempff
Thanks for the taking the time for doing such a huge thing 🫂

Gracious to PianoJFAS' uploading such sonatas
Thanks to the time you worked on this video my life is easier and brighter. 😊
I've listened to the complete cycle of Beethoven piano sonatas by John Lill, so really look forwards to this
What a great meeting of two genii!!
i finally found the sonata i was looking for. thank you so much!
I have listened to the whole video. Thumbs up if you did too 👍
I did it too. What happiness!
This is great. Can play along with the pianist in the recording since the sheet music is there.

This is probably the slowest I've heard a recording of the fourth movement of the 12th Sonata and it still sounds wonderful. Others tend to fly through it and it made me think I'd never get it fast enough, but if I can make it sound more like this it gives me hope :)
thank you for uploading this!
This is great music to do my exercises! Namaste.
Wonderful, thank you for this wonderful upload 😋
Regarding Kempff's live complete ecording in Tokyo in 1961, there was a brief introduction about Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas by Kempff himself in German after the first piano Sonata recording. The encores include the works by Mozart, Brahms, Beethoven's piano piece and kempff's transcription of Bach's works

Life is good when you can buy all the Beethoven for a few dollars
Even better when its free and accompanied by the score
All classical music should be free 😊

1:54:54 is the first time the “fate motif” is used in all of Beethovens works
The fate motive is the very first thing the left hand does in the first movement of the first sonata….
Amazingly useful!
If you realize, Liszt was inspired by the beginning of the 4th movement of the pastoral sonata. I mean in his Pastorale of the Annees de pelerinage I he uses the same theme
