    Two active speakers, they're cheap these days, you get proper stereo and setting them up is as easy as a soundbar.
    I don't really get them, unless you really have no space.

    • @GeoAnaGR
      @GeoAnaGR 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    • @MHWGamer
      @MHWGamer 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      it's just a simple solution which is very cheap (everything below 300 I would say). If you want more, go for stereo-speakers with a good amp/dac (I think you can get a really good setup for 500 bucks and you can expand it later)

      My GF bought us a sound bar because our TVs speakers perform poorly. I'm leaning towards a receiver and a 3.1 set up for now. The only issue I see is that with those larger speakers it seems as if the louds and quiet noises are very intense. We don't want to deal with turning down and up the volume constantly. I've experienced this at my friend's house he has an old school 90s receiver and speakers probably of the same age. Is there a way to fix this?

    • @justinbeamon6624
      @justinbeamon6624 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Noah Willson So you're trying to take away the dynamic range that sound engineers purposeful put in? There's some options on some receivers. But honestly that's exactly how it's supposed to be. If you don't like it then it sounds like you just need a cheap sound bar.

    • @justinbeamon6624

      b headphones are nice but have no real surround, it's just stereo. Plus the bass with an actual subwoofer is totally different than headphones. Feeling it with your whole body instead of just your ears make it much worth it.

    I would say you are probably better off buying a pair of stereo speakers (and maybe a subwoofer). Yes, the speakers in the soundbar are bigger than the speakers in your tv, but they are still pretty small. Soundbars are pretty expensive for what you are actually getting.

    • @CaveyMoth

      You're paying for gimmicks and simplicity instead of sound quality, really.

    • @blahorgaslisk7763
      @blahorgaslisk7763 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cavey has got it right. The soundbar is not designed to give you the optimal sound or bang for the buck. It's purpose is to be easy to install, compact and non obtrusive all while providing a better sound than the built in speakers. For best sound you will have to go with a receiver and large boxy speakers, and if you want the surround experience there will be quite a lot of wires needed to drive something like 7 or 9 speakers and up to 2 subwoofers.
      In short, if the WAF is in anyway important then you risk ending up with a soundbar, but if sound is important then you will want a full blown audio system with big honking speakers.

    • @yoshimitsui2

    I currently have the ViZio 36" SB3651-e6 model sound bar system in my bedroom and living room, and I find it a good balance of performance and simplicity for a smaller environment such as an apartment. It supports all the typical formats Dolby 5.1, DTS 5.1, Dolby Plus 5.1. It won't receive a bitstream of the lossless codecs such as TrueHD, or Master Audio from DTS. However, it will receive lossless audio if it's sent as PCM 5.1 say having the Blu-ray player decode the audio, and send it as PCM vs sending it as a bitstream. These systems have a wireless sub, and rear speakers so they provide a genuine 5.1 experience vs simulated. I've been quite happy with the performance. and they are well priced for what you get. They also come with Google cast Audio built in so you can stream music to the sound bar directly as well. Bluetooth is also an option. One other thing, they do support cast multi device so they will also work with a music group for multi room audio.

    Hey oh! I bought that Samsung Sound Bar combo you featured for $80 on Black Friday and I couldn't be happier. Atmos really is a game changer and movies that implement it well leave an impression like the Netflix exclusive Okja. The main problem I've discovered is movie producers not supporting Atmos but not utilizing it properly, like with say Pixar's new movie Coco sounded the same as (to me anyways) as the 4k remaster of the Harry Potter collection which uses DTS:X but decided to use the older Dolby Pro Logic 2 codec (which may be an issue with Vudu or the soundbar idk)

Sure, when I watch a bluray rental or big movie I always use my 7.1 system and everyone should use surround speakers for audio-intense stuff, but for watching comedy shows a soundbase or soundbar is perfectly adequate

    If you have Sony BRAVIA, ours were W600B, you don't need sound bar, you only need an active subwoofer. You can connect the subwoofer input from the 3.5mm headphone jack of the TV and to the rear connector of the subwoofer, our Boston Acoustics Subwoofer has 4 inputs for left and right channel. I do need to cut the other end to expose the wires, add some ferrules and then connect them to the sub. Set the headphone jack settings as a subwoofer and boom, low frequency sounds will be router to the headphone jack to your subwoofer while the TV speakers will be the one to provide high frequency.
    You can also buy their Sony BT Subwoofer but it's not worth it and kind of expensive.

    Sound bars only make since of you have money to burn and even then they are probably for people that care more about looks than sound quality. You can do so much better with a 2 half good speaker setup for under $200 and it'll sound better than the $1500 sound bar

      There are times that good soundbars become affordable, but if it's money to burn to look for, the full home theater set up is one of them. Those big speakers aren't that cheap. The cabling prices can depend on the cable. Optic may be fast in response, but copper wiring can do a good job when made and done well.

    I have one for my computer who comfortably seat under my main monitor, simply because even the smallest stereo speakers take way too much space for no reasons, mostly vertical (and with triple monitors setup this is not practical). So for little space (after all, I don't need the space under my screens) I have a really good sound device more than powerful enough for a computer environment, I can even game on it without troubles.

  • @austin.t5557
    @austin.t5557 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Switching from a traditional speaker setup too a soundbar was hard but I needed the space. Finding the right audio signature with sound bars can be a pain. I actually left my physical 5.1 audio setup too a 700$ 5.1 soundbar and hated HATED the audio signature. I then down graded too a 200$ Soundbase and while not sounding as good as a physical 5.1 audio setup it was decent enough for me too give it a pass due to the reduction of space it took compared to the soundbar and the physical audio setup.

    I got an LG soundbar when i got the 'smart' TV,and it sounds great.I had a sound card,speakers,etc,etc,and it was a mess,although it sounded fine.It's just too much complication for the amount of TV I watch,and I am fine with good sound,so the LGs are clear,quick,and adequate,taking up little space in comparison.I have studio and audiophile gear,and most of the time,I dont even use any of it,unless I am recording.I came up in the time when DJing meant carrying crates,amps,preamps,speakers,and like with home audio,it just doesnt need to be complicated,expensive,and mysterious.Just get it,try it,and see if it works for you,or take it back..easy...

  • @coloniellizardt4191

    Yes and no. If you want less wires and more simplicity then yes soundbars are good if you get the right one. Otherwise soundbars were never meant to replace A/V receivers and other proper speaker setups, so obviously if you want better more convincing surround sound whether you're aiming for 5.1, 7.1, or Atmos/DTS:X then just get a receiver and your choice of speakers/subwoofers and enjoy.

    I have an old 1990s era DENON stereo and from the audio red/white ports of the TV or Blu-Ray player, I plugged it into the AUX in on it and the sound is fine. I am no audiophile nerd who needs Dolby/Atmos, THX, whatever perfection. If it sounds fuller, and through my old stereo, it does I am happy. Lot's of people have old stereos, like mine and re-purposing them like I have would make a lot more sense than a soundbar. Who really gives a flick about audio perfection, my DENON, stereo came with custom JBL speakers for a good sound from music CDs, and now it provides good sound from TV, from either Blu-ray, Streaming content or even old-fashioned broadcast TV.

    I got a sound bar for my 50in TV last year, and it was a HUGE upgrade from the built-in speakers. The video quality was good, but the sound was crap. To me sound is just as if not more important to the viewing experience than video. Mine is a Vizio 5.1 system. The bar has center, left and right. Then there's a wireless sub woofer and rear speakers.

    *Soundbars* appear to be a an easier way to setup your home theatre as it's also wireless being it's main sell point (but beware, because mixing using bluetooth audio with your DJ Mixer has lag and not useable if you monitor via headphones).

    I've got an old-ass 2.1 LG sound bar I bought nearly 7 years ago, $220 at time of purchase. It's functional and can get quite loud (80W bar, 200W sub), with what I'd call "good" sound quality. Not likely to replace it until I have to, because I'd want something equivalent, which would be... not cheap.

    James should do more vids, so that others can't. I like him. He is able to speak in a way I can understand. It's all full of vocals and vowels, there is plenty of complete words.
    Of course I have to get used to NOT constantly rewind to finally, after the third time or so, get what the host wanted to tell me.
    Surprised, relieved, happy. Thanks, James.

    Soundbar is great for my projector room. I don't want wires going everywhere and the speaker on the projector sucks (obviously) so this was a great compromise. I really only watch TV or movies on it and I don't care about surround with that kind of media. I use headphones for gaming which sounds better than my old 5.1 ever did.

    • @stonesfan285
      @stonesfan285 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They're just different audio formats. DTS usually sounds better because it is mastered louder and more dynamically vs Dolby. DTS:X is simply a take on DTS where you have height channels, similar to Dolby Atmos.

    It's great that popularity of soundbars is promoting more advances in sound engineering in order to bring to them the possibility of audiophile/reference grades of sound reproduction. However, traditional setups will remain the better value for getting great sound quality, while also providing an upgrade path for exceptional sound reproduction. And hopefully these new sound technologies get applied to the components of traditional setups.

    I bought the HK N850 soundbar for $500 (retail $1000). But after seeing this, I'm not sure if I should sell it and get a real surround sound system. Money and space is not an issue for me. Would an actual surround sound system be better for the cost/performance?

  • @SaltAndVi
    @SaltAndVi 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I HIGHLY recommend getting a sound bar if you have a multiple devices. But not just a soundbar, get one that's comes with a separate Bluetooth subwoofer. It's an absolute game changer. First of all the sound bar gets extremely loud. If I want the base, it's there. Secondly, you can connect multiple devices easily. I have my tv and computer right next to each other so I only have to worry about one audio system. It has so many ports ranging from auxiliary, HDMI, optical, and even USB. It also has Bluetooth and comes with a remote allowing for easy control and switching from one syatem to another. I mainly use my computer and tv, never at the same time though so I don't even have to worry about switching inputs, mine does it automatically.
    Yes it can be expensive, but I've used mine every single day and have never once run into a problem with it in the 3 years I've had it now.
    Edit: I also want to add that they take up very little space as it can just sit under your tv, or you can even mount it under your tv on the wall
