An idea for next month's t-shirt: you could add "We bless you until next time." in small print on the upper center back of the shirt. This way it would give the message as you depart those grocery store convos. :) P.S. I really love the tomato design!!

Some advice on the pears- I have a 60 year old pear tree... HUGE harvest every year. Pick them hard, they will ripen in 2 days. Process them before they get too soft, it's a short window! I find that the pears have so much sugar in them! I just cook them down like an apple sauce and don't need to add anything to them. Also, Charles Dowding has a great video on pruning fruit trees.

My family has had those same kind of pears all my life and i am 70 yrs old now. These are great fo making pear preserves ! We love them! My momma only made pear preserves with them.Love those preserves. We cut off just thinner chunks and cook them down with sugar, the old fashion way, like making jam. No sure jell or any additives , just sugar and pear chunks, when done they are a tad firm, but tender, and they turn a little light reddish color most of the time and syrup is a little thick. Can use the syrup from the preserves on pancakes!
    Pear Preserves is my favorite!

Even here in the North we plant onions a second time.
1st planting sustains through summer and early fall the second planting is to sustain through winter.
Since most of the garden is finished by the time the second planting goes in you would be able to plant even more.

My Nan used to make bottled pears, it's the one thing I can remember her canning, canning isn't as huge in the UK as it is in the USA. It's essentially just pears preserved in a syrup, you poach them briefly in the syrup to warm them through but not cook them and then pack them into jars and can.

If the pear is gritty textured the use them in soups like squash and pear soup. Because it would be puréed the grittiness adds great texture for the soup. I use Bosc pears for this purpose.
Also for hash I like to make a poutine. Loads of veg, meat optional, cheese, hollandaise sauce and softly poached egg.
