I'd like that, and from the number of time Billy said "ok, the last joke" in this video it seems that he may enjoy making a full video about that too 😅
jin’s sentences being so straight forward and concise is so him. he always said he doesn’t like things to be complicated, and prefers to be direct. he also said this in his approach to music lyrics and singing
@@Rachel-sv9pq my favorite Jin moment, the other is when that girl in the elevator said "you're handsome" and he buried his head in his manager's chest out of shyness LOL. in 2 days Jin will be one third done! let's all hold a vision of him emerging from the gate at whatever military compound, with his spirit, body and morale stronger and healthier than ever ! ! ! :)))
Translator army always point out how straightforward he writes in letters, like he's being mindful that his sentences are understood and can be easily translated by Papago or Google translate. Do you agree? they also mention when talking to fans, the tone he uses is very fond like he's speaking to someone much younger, I think this is what you mean when you say he speaks like an older person ahhaha
'his brain is thinking fast'...is why he wins on Run BTS when they play thinking games! He has the popular name for a group name they choose, it's Team Kim Seokjin! 😂🤣👍🏻💜 Thank you for this video!
Yeah I agree that Jin is the easiest member to understand when it comes to speaking. I'm still learning Korean and I always just like practice by watching his live cuz he speaks so clearly
You have now idea how fulfilled I feel with someone FINALLY explaining Jin’s god baby joke in a way I can understand. That itch has finally been scratched 💜
While Jin is of course known to be a very witty and fun dude(so focusing a bit on his jokes and type of humor is a given), I will admit I'm a little disappointed that you didn't look up any clips of Jin speaking outside of a comedic context, since he's known to also be very well-spoken, thoughtful and sincere, as well as extremely polite and well-mannered, even for an idol. This is said to be the reason he so easily befriends older people(like 40+), and would probably be the most useful aspects of his speech and mannerisms to break down and examine(since it seems like everyone is very polite, so how exactly is he even MORE polite?), at least in my opinion. I appreciate finally understanding some of those puns though, and I also didn't know that he actually has a slight dialect sometimes, which is interesting!
i would love a part II with more dad jokes, when he said those pointed words during that awards show speech about artists should make achievements the honest way, and also analysis of their 2018 MAMA artist of the year speech
I think the point of this series is going to be showing what sets each member a part in their communication style. All BTS members are well-mannered and sincere in their own way, so I think the series may become a bit repetitive if he covers absolutely every context. Focusing on Namjoon's specific dialect and Jin's propensity for dad jokes and puns as well as speaking like an old man, highlights the members differences and keeps the videos engaging.
@@breejean7705 Covering every context is impossible of course, he's just sharing his personal observations based on the limited content he's seen(and he won't be able to watch everything just for these videos), but since there's a lot more to Jin and the way he communicates with other people than dad jokes and being goofy, I think watching a more wide variety of clips would've been more useful. Is it possible that he wouldn't have found anything worth noting even if he heard Jin speaking more sincerely? I suppose. But we don't know that now since he didn't watch any of that, at least not from what he showed us. I suspect a lot of tired fandom stereotypes limited his research, and that's what I find unfortunate.
This was everything I could have wished for or wanted to be included when I think of how Jin speaks. Esp the fact that you highlighted his puns and dad jokes, and his use of Satoori dialect occasionally peaking through. I also like how you picked up on his direct writing style etc. Jin is so funny and charming congrats on him being your bias. So looking forward to rest of the series, esp TaeTae. 😊👏🏼💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 P.s him losing his temper jokingly and asking ‘how could you do this to me?’ is some of my fav expressions of Jin.
It is so interesting to see the mannerisms and the way Jin speaks, it gave us a deeper insight of what we (non native koreans) were missing out. I'm enjoying your series very very much, thank you for your hard work Billy
To get your point across in very concise manner is actually an art and from what I understand from native KR speakers (and your video), Jin does it very well. Additionally, as I understand from others is, he has a way with words esp. when talking about more difficult subjects, that is to the point but does not come across as callous or insult/ belittle others. That for me is something I respect and would like to learn from.
I sooo agree with u that jin pronounciation is more easy for me to understand. He speaks very clearly. As a beginner i really can pick up his words except when he is not talking fast
Aaaa i really had so much fun watching this video 😂 i agree about how seokjin speaks clearly. Way before i started learning korean, i've noticed that i kinda understand what he's said eventhough i had no idea with the meaning. It's because imo among other members, he speaks so clearly, both his intonation and pronunciation. I used to just hearing his vlive while doing errands cuz i really enjoyed his speaking. Anyway, we're very welcome if you make a video dedicated to seokjin's dad jokes ㅋㅋㅋ also billy's bias revealed ㅋㅋ 다음 영상 많이 기대되용 감사합니다 빌리 쌤!
i’m actually curious about seokjin’s formal speech. many international fans used to think he liked to roast fans when replying to their posts on weverse but korean fans insisted that his tone(?) was actually very cute and polite and that was the reason no korean fan felt offended by them (the jokes). and yes, he’s the oldest in bts and that’s why he speaks comfortably and jokes around with everyone but he also seems to do that when he’s with older people and i was wondering how his speech changes when he’s the youngest instead -apart from switching from casual to formal speech lol. anyway, this was a very interesting video ☺️
BTS has a song about satoori and it would be nice if you could explain it to us, because the explanation we have is more historical than the dialect itself.
Aw, anyone whose favorite member is Jin automatically becomes one of my favorite people. 😁 His speech really does reflect his personality - clear, straightforward, concise (with all the words he uses, it's amazing how little he reveals about himself). Yes, he had already learned "actor voice" when he joined BigHit - his vocal coach said he had to completely retrain his voice before he could learn to sing. I was surprised to hear you say that Jin usually uses informal language with the others. It's always seemed to me that he uses the polite forms more often than not, even in casual settings. Maybe I just expect informal speech and don't notice it, so it really stands out when he uses polite forms? I always have a bit of cognitive dissonance when I hear him using the polite form when he's talking to JK...I'll have to pay more attention. Thank you for a really interesting analysis! (BTW your Korean is excellent!)
His lives are such a joy to watch as an intermediate learner since he enunciates things so well! Thank you again for this video series, I’m really enjoying it!
Wow! I don’t know why, but I assumed that Jin didn’t speak in dialect. You learn something new everyday. I was aware of how expressive Jin is when he speaks, but I didn’t realize that it may be because of his background in acting. Great video!!!!!!! I’ve learned many things today including who your BTS bias is!!!😉 I do have one question for you…How long did it take for you to become fluent in Korean???
@Learn Korean with GO! Billy Korean thank you for the video! I also did not realize that BTS use honorifics. Because they are so close, I just thought they spoke to each other formally.
I love these videos so much! Jin's quick wit that he uses for bad puns is delightful. 🤣 I'm looking forward to Suga, too. I love his voice and want to understand it better.
I really appreciate this series, and especially the Jin video (he's also my bias). Because I don't speak Korean, and also because I studied English and linguistics in college, I have been fascinated for years about Jin's puns. Many times, the English subs make his puns seem like they work in English and Korean, and I can not figure that out. I sometimes wonder if the people making the subs are just changing what he's saying to a pun that works in English so that we aren't confused. I wish I could think of an example, but I know that it has happened multiple times, and I am always baffled.
Hi! Yes, I agree!! I’m always curious whether the jokes work in both languages or it’s just some localised translation. that’s a dilemma for many translators. I’m a native Russian speaker and I had a course paper at Uni about play on words and puns. As for me, English puns actually occur quite often in TV shows and films. And since this type of humour is not that popular in Russian compared to English or Korean, I studied how Russian translators approach them. Many times they just come up with other culture-appropriate jokes to fit the narrative, sometimes similar to the original and sometimes something completely new but just as funny. It’s a dilemma whether you want the same response from the audience (laughter and giggles), and you try your best to make your own joke, regardless of the original context. or just leave it be, mentioning that “you know he made a joke but it makes no sense but it’s funny lol”
Jin used to travel with his business executive father when he was young. Perhaps that is why he speaks like a member of an older generation at times. He is so adaptable. All of the members have be to survive in the industry. I love his dad jokes and his BTS persona. 💜
I love Jin so much! He always cracks me up & I love his laugh! Thank you for explaining the dad jokes because even with subtitles they can still go over my head.. lol so thank you! Also I miss him so much!!😔💜
Again super interesting!!! I think the 5 other members are gonna be funny to analyze! Real satoori ahead ! I think the only thing I'd wish he touched up on is when they are in more formal settings like the interviews on national news or when they hold press conferences. They sound so articulate and it's a side of Jin that really I remembered impressed me a lot too when i first got into them, same goes for all the members!
I wonder if you got to see his videos of alcohol here in YT since he's with way older people. It would be an interesting addition to see an analysis of how he communicates with them! In any case I'm loving the series~~
Thank you for doing this! I cant wait for all the episodes of this series. This is something the army wanted for a long time. A lot of bts fans want to learn Korean because their song lyrics are so beautiful. I in particular started learning korea after realising that 사람 and 사랑 were so similar looking and had similar pronunciations after reading the lyrics for "trivia love". RM uses both the words in a way that tickled my brain.
I NEED a compilation of all of Jin's dad jokes! I am not sure if this is true for all Korean dad jokes but Jin uses a lot of wordplay which normal translations don't do justice to. Come 2025 we need to debut Jin as a rapper- he speaks fast but his diction is so clear!
I wouldn't say no to a whole video on Jin's dad jokes. Usually bc I can only understand less than 0.001% of them, it's his reaction to them that tends to get me 😅 This was a great video! I love breakdowns like these and I can't wait to see your take on the other members too (and I'll go check out your RM video now).
I just love jin and his personality ❤️ I don’t understand Korean at all but the way he says those jokes and laugh at his own jokes make it so funny. He is such a balanced personality❤️ funny, talented, mannered and of course handsome
His dad jokes are something else and are so unique to him in the group. He laughs a lot more than they do at them! As for the way in which he speaks, I’ve noticed those things, too. In some ways, it can seem to make it easier to understand even if you don’t understand most all of the words because he is so expressive. I get a kick out of his goofiness. His faking being angry or upset a lot. To me, his many fishing woes are so funny, much of the reason being because of how he reacts. Jin is just as unique as they all are, and I get a kick out of him. A lot. He’s just a few days older than my daughter. They were both born in December of 1092!
Out of all the members, Jin is my favorite to listen to in terms of Korean learning (I also just really enjoy his vlog style and what he makes videos about). He always speaks so clearly and straightforward. I can watch and listen to him comfortably whether it's him doing a 먹방, cooking, or making presentations in an office setting. He's just a joy to watch ♥
I know you were probably trying to keep the video short but I swear I’d watch 30min of you talking about their Korean! I wish you could do a video on bts’ more formal speeches!
Seokjin is my bias and I know no Korean whatsoever but Epiphany was the only bts song I could sing along to because he pronounces every syllables so well. Actually most of his part even in English he says the words clearly. I noticed that I could understand the difference in his clear pronounciation singing in Japanese too. Maybe because his style of singing is speaking style singing idk. In Jamais vu when he and JK sings "please save me, give me another chance" is my favorite part just as JK said that it's his favorite part from Seokjin because the emotions he sings with just amazes me and you can clearly he his pronounciation better than JK it's one of my fav songs because of his part there 😂
thank you. would love to see the difference in the way he speaks to his elders. Like Kim Namgil and chef paik in Jin's series drunken truth. or the bangtan bomb when he went to the movie premieres Namgil was showing him off and Lee Sang-yeob calming him down.
I totally agree that he's concise and straightforward. As someone learning Korean, I definitely notice that I can usually understand his posts more than some of the other members.
Thank you so much for making this video. I really enjoyed watching your video about Namjoon’s usage of satoori and other ways of speaking Korean so I was so excited when this video popped up as Jin is also my favorite too! I’m not at all fluent in Korean but I do love linguistics and other cultures so I feel really happy to have learned more about Korean culture as well as the direct translations of some of Jin’s jokes. Thank you for all your effort! Fighting! ❤
BTS is the reason I'm trying to learn Korean in the first place, lol! I can watch dramas and TH-cam shows with captions, but when BTS members go live I have to wait for translations and I'm SOOOOOO impatient! I'd honestly love to visit South Korea some day as well and I feel like it's only polite to have at least some language if you visit somewhere. I've been loving the insight into how the members speak as well since I don't know enough to catch anything like accents. Thanks so much for doing these! (Do you like their music too?)
Oh I KNEW it! I can tell which baby army will turn into a Jin bias from a mile away. Thanks for the video and I look forward to the rest... and POSSIBLY a part 2??? I know these are alot of work. I'll wait. ⛱🍁❄💐
Yes that's what he made me draw to be my ultimate bias apart from his totality as a person.. The way he pronounces every Korean word in his songs and BTS's amazes me.. I can easily understands every syllable.
Hope you check Run BTS (I forgot what episode) when the BTS member self made story, draw and tell the story. Jin is very creative and made some story about sausages and about boy who has just one strand hair.
Yaaaaay I loved this!!! I've always felt Jin had the clearest korean to understand. Suga has THEEE worst!! lol And Jungkook talks like a young person where they shorten everything and half talk lol, he had me saying Mashita as Mashta for months! lol. I love love love this series, so happy you've fallen down the rabbit hole hahaha. Please do Taehyung next! I would love to hear your analysis of Taehyung and his famous TaeTae language 🤣🤣
I’ve always been interested in honorifics, formal, informal and casual ways of speaking. Because things are usually just translated for international people but not explained. This has been really interesting. Thank you!
Hardly any of Jin's jokes translate into English well but some do. I bet you use them with your son. It was interesting to see how you had picked up on the little bit of satoori he has picked up from his parents. My husband lived in Scotland from a young age and I picked up some of his Scottish sayings. I also have a lot of my own Welsh ones and family ones. One of my favourite Welsh ones is, 'scram' which means to scratch. In Welsh it is, 'scrammo' or 'scrappo' depending on which part of Wales you come from. Language is fascinating isn't it?
I would like to request that you also analyze Jin speaking seriously like in interviews or expressing opinion. Thanks for this interesting videos. gives me additional knowledge about my bias Kim Seokjin. This made me miss him more.
Lol when you said that jin's writing was not pretty I realized just how clueless I am about their personal language/writing skills because I thought his handwriting was soooo nice and neat among members because i find it easiest to read😭 thank you so much for this series!!! I love having a dedicated Korean language learner's insight on this. You've made it really easy to understand.
I suspect Jin would be very pleased with what you chose to focus on. He and Yoongi are quite a pair with their occasional grandpa moments, but he also LOVES wordplay and is lightnight-fast with the puns. :D He's an awesome person, and as great as he is with his dongsaengs, a lot of older entertainers have spoken about how personable and kind he is with them, too. People who don't know him well think he's vain because of "WWH," but he's said himself he makes jokes about it because it's the one aspect of himself that he had absolutely no part in achieving. (One of my favorite clips is from when he was co-hosting an awards show, and fans screamed "Jin, you're handsome!" while he was presenting. Without missing a beat, Jin responded "Yes, I'm handsome" and continued presenting while his fellow hosts broke down with laughter: th-cam.com/video/0WH5fFJI-6Y/w-d-xo.html I have kind of a weird question... you talked about polite form and casual form... I would guess that when you're addressing a mixed group, you would use the more polite form, yes? Which does Jin use when he's talking to ARMY?
Found your channel through John Reaves! 🤟 He really is witty! That's why sometimes he gets no reaction from the maknae line coz either they didn't get the pun/joke or its just isn't really funny lol most of the time tho, it's Yoongi and RM reacting 😂
Omg I learned so much from this video and it was really fun. From dissecting dad jokes to the 사투리 used by Jin. Sometimes it's hard to know if some of the things said by someone are verb endings that I haven't learned yet or satoori, so I'm grateful for all of these explanations. Thanks again Billy!
We definitely need an entire video about his dad jokes. 😂
I'd like that, and from the number of time Billy said "ok, the last joke" in this video it seems that he may enjoy making a full video about that too 😅

Usually bc I can only understand less than 0.001% of them, it's his reaction to them that tends to get me 😅
This was a great video! I love breakdowns like these and I can't wait to see your take on the other members too (and I'll go check out your RM video now).
I just love jin and his personality ❤️
I don’t understand Korean at all but the way he says those jokes and laugh at his own jokes make it so funny. He is such a balanced personality❤️ funny, talented, mannered and of course handsome
Great video! Jin is so witty and I agree he speaks very clearly, that makes it easier to understand him!
숙제하기 전에 이 비디오를 봤어요.
빌리 선생님 한국어 수업에 감사합니다.
2025년 전에 더 BTS를 이해하니까 한국어를 배우고 있어요. Glad키티예요~
Jin's my favourite member as well! 😊💜
I love him too. And your korean is amazing!
I know you were probably trying to keep the video short but I swear I’d watch 30min of you talking about their Korean! I wish you could do a video on bts’ more formal speeches!
Thank you for explaining his dad jokes! I never understood why they were funny, I get it now! Lol!!
On Reddit, there have been discussions about how Jin speaks like a middle aged man. I like how you confirmed this.
I love the way Jin speaks, even though I only know about three words of Korean, lol! Very enjoyable video 🙂
I LOVE this BTS series, Thank you! Jin is my bias too and I would love a whole episode on Dad jokes, Borahae💜
In Jamais vu when he and JK sings "please save me, give me another chance" is my favorite part just as JK said that it's his favorite part from Seokjin because the emotions he sings with just amazes me and you can clearly he his pronounciation better than JK it's one of my fav songs because of his part there 😂
I miss him so much omg...
How come it ends so fast!!?
This video makes me feel like I just watched a 2 minutes video clip. Love it❤️❤️
Now i miss Jin a lot more....😭😭
Me too...i am so fond of Jin! He seem sweet and very direct yet humble and low profile. He is very funny!
thank you. would love to see the difference in the way he speaks to his elders. Like Kim Namgil and chef paik in Jin's series drunken truth. or the bangtan bomb when he went to the movie premieres Namgil was showing him off and Lee Sang-yeob calming him down.
Jin is my favorite too!! 😊
Loved your insight so much! Jin is a gem :)
I'll wait. ⛱🍁❄💐
Yay! I was waiting for this one so much💜 I love Jin's dad jokes, learning Korean with those is so much fun!
Jin is definitely a JINius 🧠 🙃
We appreciate your analysis! 💜 감사합니다 This makes me more excited to learn.
You're amazing, Billy! Thank you for this wonderful series! And welcome to the fandom, fellow ARMY! 💜
Loved him on Running Man too! 😊 진 런닝맨 나왔었는데 예능캐더라구요? 아재 개그랑도 잘 어울린다는 ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
So you’re a Jin Bias! I’m OT7 but Jin was the ultimate bias wrecker that made me give up and just admit I’m OT7 😂. I’m finding this series so fun!
I was halfway through typing a comment demanding that you share your bias with us when he comes up, glad I waited until the end of the video. 🤣
I would love to hear your analysis of Taehyung and his famous TaeTae language 🤣🤣
he's doing it in fan chant order :)
@@sc33h3o3 aaah! Thanks 😊
Jin is my perfect man 💜I love him so much 💜
Lol when you said that jin's writing was not pretty I realized just how clueless I am about their personal language/writing skills because I thought his handwriting was soooo nice and neat among members because i find it easiest to read😭 thank you so much for this series!!! I love having a dedicated Korean language learner's insight on this. You've made it really easy to understand.
Loved this and love and miss 진💜,he always wants to play with his younger siblings. Thanks Billy💜
He’s my fav member too❤
As a person who is learning Korean because of BTS this video made me very happy thankyou! 🥰I am a Jimin bias, but how can you not love Jin? Borohae 💜
thank you for this video. It is interesting to watch your videos because of the way you speak analyze.💗
Btw , miss you our wwh❤
I suspect Jin would be very pleased with what you chose to focus on. He and Yoongi are quite a pair with their occasional grandpa moments, but he also LOVES wordplay and is lightnight-fast with the puns. :D
He's an awesome person, and as great as he is with his dongsaengs, a lot of older entertainers have spoken about how personable and kind he is with them, too. Without missing a beat, Jin responded "Yes, I'm handsome" and continued presenting while his fellow hosts broke down with laughter: th-cam.com/video/0WH5fFJI-6Y/w-d-xo.html
I have kind of a weird question... you talked about polite form and casual form... I would guess that when you're addressing a mixed group, you would use the more polite form, yes? Which does Jin use when he's talking to ARMY?
Even the way he speaks is perfect 🫶🫶 love youuuu Seokjin-ah💜
Loving this series so glad your Army supporter recommended this series
Thank you for providing your insight on Jin's speaking style. It was very interesting to watch 💜
Hes coming back soon from the military and im soo happy
Found your channel through John Reaves! 🤟 He really is witty! That's why sometimes he gets no reaction from the maknae line coz either they didn't get the pun/joke or its just isn't really funny lol most of the time tho, it's Yoongi and RM reacting 😂
Jimin full body Zendaya laughs at his jokes tho
@@viva_la_vidaa yep, him too.
thank you sooooo much Billy 💜💜
Omg I learned so much from this video and it was really fun. From dissecting dad jokes to the 사투리 used by Jin. Sometimes it's hard to know if some of the things said by someone are verb endings that I haven't learned yet or satoori, so I'm grateful for all of these explanations. Thanks again Billy!
