I was just going though my grandfather's photos and one from 1942 said Ocean Wave Jump Through. I remember him roping us when we were kids and somehow we never got hurt. He told us Ohio kids that if we wanted to learn these tricks we had to get our toes ground to fit pointed boots like his. Thanks for showing the Ocean Wave. Now I'm off to look for the Jump Through.
Hi GB, That's funny being told about shaping your feet to wear cowboy boots. He must have been good with a rope. It takes skill to rope people without hurting them. My video OCEAN WAVE TRICK ROPING VARIATIONS has several Ocean Wave Jump Throughs. th-cam.com/video/Ms1hMlrZITM/w-d-xo.html
@@rhinestoneropers9204 Thanks for the note. I took a look at your "Variation" video and you make it look easy. What a workout! I looked for a way to send a photo via TH-cam channel but came to a dead end. If you are The Rhinestone Roper Show on facebook I can send via messenger.
Just a great learning video. Not an easy trick for me. I wondered how long does a cotton spot cord last before I need to get a new one. Should the rope always be stiff like new or super soft and worn in? THanks again for all you do!!
I'm glad you liked it. And it is a difficult trick, at least it was for me. As for the rope, it is probably personnel preference, but I want my ropes to have some stiffness. My ropes last for years but I paint them to protect the outer surface and to keep them a bit stiff. After I paint them I spin them to break them in a bit before the first performance just to get used to how they feel.
HI Bladimir, Sorry it took so long for me to spot your message. I'm glad you liked the video. I've been trick roping for many years and still learning. Mostly I learned from the Frank Dean, WILL ROGERS ROPE TRICKS book.
Hello. I just wanted to leave a comment. I want to learn how to whip crack. It’s Texas and it is 106° so it’s too hot to go out and practice that right now. I figured it would be good to learn how to make the whips until it cools down enough so that I can go outside and start practicing. I figured that would help me in someway with learning how to crack Whips. All of that plaiting is dull. I’ve made about seven or eight of them so far and I’m still trying to get it down decently, but they do crack. I do know how to do a Cattlemans crack, an overhead crack, and a body wrap. I did go out to at least try to do those and was able to get them. Not the best, but I got them. Anyway, the point of my comment is that while I was working on trying to build another whip, I found your channel on trick roping. I now have a trick rope. It’s a 15 foot rope with a burner and it still in the package. Again, this is Texas and it’s way too hot to go outside right now to try to play with it. I just wanted to say thank you for putting these videos out. I’ve seen a few others put some out. You would think this would be a lot more popular than it is! Trying to find DVDs is not always the easiest. I don’t learn well from books. I’m a kinetic learner. Something that I really like about your videos is that you not only explain it, but I have also seen you show the view in different ways. Including from your view as the one doing the trick. I think that is fantastic and makes it easier to learn. I’m just watching all of your videos right now well I’m trying to braid this whip. Come September and October when you can walk outside and at least breathe, I want to start learning how to do some rope tricks. I most definitely subscribed and hit the all button. I was watching the videos on my work computer so I wasn’t able to hit the like on all of them, but I will go back and start hitting those once I have finished with this one. Thank you so much for making your videos! I also found some videos on other things that you have put out that I do definitely plan on attempting to learn! Thank you for putting those out and hopefully taking the time to read this.
HI Woody, It's Apple Barrel acrylic paint. Out of the craft section at Walmart. I stretch the rope, squirt the paint into my hand and rub it on to the rope and let it dry while stretched.
Hi Jonathan, I saw a notice that you sent me something. If you did, I can't find it. you might try using my email rather than messenger. rhinestoneroper@gmail.com you can also contact me on this youtube channel
Hi Gabriel, I'm spinning 3/8 inch, cotton spot cord. The only place that I know you can get it is from Western Stage Props in Las Vegas. They have a good web site. Some people order their ropes from me. They tell me how long they want it and I get it, cut it to their length, tie an end knot and fashion a honda that is weighted for the length of rope and the type of tricks that they intend to do.
Hi Michael, You might try watching the video on this channel Called TWO HABITS TO AVOID WHEN LEARNING THE OCEAN WAVE. There is certainly something you can do to at least one of the three spins that will keep the loop from failing. It really helps to video your best attempt so you can study it. Good Luck Dan
And I got to say the absolute hardest trick I learned but now the absolute easiest trick I learned was the butterfly. Took 4 months to learn it and be consent. 1 year in I can do rollovers left and right arm, zigzag, arm bounces, turn arounds, arrow head, spoke hop, merry go round, wedding ring, and I have no idea what it is called the i can do that trick where you spin it behind you back in the regular butterfly. I can do about 9 trick i can thank about I just 1 year.

I can really appreciate the skill displayed here. So graceful. I'm inspired to learn a few rope moves.

I have loved watching ropers do these amazing tricks since Roy Rogers. Great videos. Thanks.
Glad you like them!
Thank you for your videos! they are super helpful and fun! and I found these just when I needed them! :D
That's good to hear, Danny. If you have any trouble I'd be glad to help.
Great video's Dan! It is always good to see how other ropers do the tricks.
Thanks Steve. I have enjoyed watching your video taken in the museum.

Hi Dan, what is the method you use to paint your ropes and what paint is used?

I try a tempting it in the arrow head. But fail every time. But with the arrow head you go transfer into the reverse butterfly.
Well you can say I get it behind my back then lose the loop.

What kind of rope are you using, and can you explain the honda type?
It's a cotton spot cord that has been painted. The honda has a leather burner and I used 17 gauge wire to fix the honda loop.
What material is your rope made of?
Cotton. 3/8 inch cotton red spot cord
Where did you buy your rope?

What’s your opinion on the Mexican version of these tricks on foot. (Manganas a pie)
The Mexicans invented this trick. They are awesome.

Damm nicest video. Damm loudest music!!??
Thanks Mike. AS you can hear, I'm having trouble gauging the difference in music level from my computer to the upload. I'll keep working on it.

I raise and train horses for trails and tricks. No cows.

Turn the music down! Great information just hard to hear from the music drowning it out.
Thank you. The music comes out louder when I publish. So, I've stopped putting music behind most of my stuff.
