This video is so informative! You guys covered so many details that will help so many new ropers! I'm so glad you have taken the time to give out this information for Free! Thanks for your time 😊
Great questions bro...... good all around information from the best in the business... you both are best at what you all do.... Godspeed and blessings to us all. God bless bro..........
Dear Dale your videos are excellently made and very informative, being an Indian and Maharashtrian makes me feel proud of watching you in action. For me it's like a dream and watching Westerns , wow this is something I enjoy and love. Thank you and God bless you. Pune City. Jai Maharashtra.
Same my dad got me my first rope when i was 7 and now 5 years later I finally come to my senses that i was meant to be a cowboy god bless and stay safe cowboys and cowgirls
This was super informative. I’m just learning to rope for the fun and interest of this historic skill, but this answered a lot of basic questions. Thanks!
Heck of a Video Guys. I Learned several things and I bet yaull taught seasoned Ropers something. Trev you are True Role Model. You are pretty funny to Dale.
I never knew about the spoke crossing over so I tried it. Total nightmare. Then I set up my spoke and fed my loop how I normally do without looking or thinking about it. I already do that and it should come naturally if all your fundamentals are in place.
So for someone who wasn’t born into it, and never learned it as a youngster and doesn’t have family who actively does it who can coach, what is the best approach to learning this from scratch?
Relentless Nation okay. In this video you guys covered several thing very well. One thing I would like you to show better if you do another roping video is talk about the correct arm and wrist movements in the swing, what beginners often do wrong, and transitioning consistently from the swing to the throw? Also, for a beginner, what advise can you give for transitioning from ground roping to roping off the horse, and from a dummy to a live animal?
Buy you a roping dummy and a rope you comfortable with and practice a lot and look and listen to all videos of the greatest ropers cause each one of them have there own style and pick bits of advice from each and one of them
@@speed150mph learning to rope and to do it well doesn't happen as quickly people want it to, it takes time and commitment but it is a lot fun... everyone has to start somewhere even a hand like Trevor had to learn to swing a rope, he may of only like 1 when he did, lol. Point is don't get demoralized because you don't know something, if really what to then do it and do it well.. if a person learns the correct way from the start the less bad habits you'll have to break as you progress. .also really really learn how to ride, not stay on learn to ride well. .. i almost hate to say even a lot of pros are very poor horseman.. Now Trevor is a horseman he consistently rides his horse's well and in my opinion is one reason his horse's will last longer and work better than someone that doesn't have the horsemanship skills. .okay sorry about that but it is a must in my opinion. .Jake Barnes&Clay O'Brien Cooper have book i think it's called the the real way to practice or the right way to practice, i thought was must have, the have a video i think it is called the same as the book, it is definitely a excellent tool. Also Walt Woodard has some old videos really will help with learning to swing your rope, George Aeros has some where he uses some donkeys definitely help when you transition from the ground to the horse... Dally Up
Michael Easter thank you for that! Your so right. Right now my biggest issue is I don’t really have anybody I’m close to who knows how to do it well who can literally show me the ropes. There’s a lot of tutorials and videos on how to do it online, but without having someone watching you and giving you feedback your left troubleshooting yourself when things go wrong. I really wish I had someone to teach me, I’m still looking, but I’d like to find someone before I devote too much time at it just so I don’t start any bad habits that I will need to break later on down the road. As for horsemanship, I’ve worked long and hard on my horsemanship, despite being a little of a late bloomer when it comes to horses. Last year I started competing in local competitive trail and reining shows. In all of this, about the only thing I’m fairly confident in is my horsemanship skills. Anyways, thanks for your input. I appreciate it!
I do my Ropen with one of those Self Extension Lines - it fits on your belt like the kind you use to walk your doggie .. yeah, that's what I use for Ropen.
Hello George, Cactus Ropes has a new rope coming out in January called The Future. If you’re heading, I’d go with an extra soft. If you’re heeling, either a medium soft or medium.
Old cowboy told me if your gonna be roping out in the pasture, learn to throw a flat loop. Once you get good at that you can modify it for the situation.
I have a question about belt buckle etiquette. How do competitive cowboys choose which buckle to wear daily? Is it always the latest win? The most prestigious win? What buckles do non-competition cowboys wear?
Josh White hey Josh, it’s all a matter of preference. Some guys wear the buckle from their favorite win. Some guys wear one that was given to them by someone that’s important to them. A lot of ranch cowboys will wear one that has their brand on it or has been made by their favorite buckle maker, and a lot of those makers also build bits and spurs. But it all comes down to whatever they prefer to wear because each person has one that means something special to them.
Mitee grate teachin' there, yall. Showd me everthang I ben dooin rong. Many years ago, with me southpawin a loop my Papaw give up showin me, till I switch to rite handed. Shore felt handycapped.
I'm a self taught fly fisherman and u do it all wrong compared yo poeple but can put that fly out there and pick it right back up . I think we teach ourselves what works for us .

It’s hilarious that these people are absolutely fearless of riding on the back of a bucking bull, but terrified of a bee or wasp. Texas is a weird place.
Lol I spent the day shoveling mulch here in North Carolina, where I'm at it was 76 degrees today. I wore my straw hat, tomorrow its back down in the 50's so back the the felt. Gotta love rollercoaster weather, didn't know there was rules about when to wear what. Sounds like something one of those fashion magazines at the women's hair salons comes up with. Lol
@@petemoore8923 just curious why get worked up over what someone else is wearing on THEIR head? You got the dates when each season begins? I reckon I'm probably breaking all kind of these fashionista rules. I wear a 5 inch brim gus pinch with a bound edge, please oh Lord tell me I aint in fashion🤣 I wear hand made Mexican boots, that make up for it??

Mandy Crites do you still have it?
I love how he doesn’t stuff his pants in his boots! Looks so much better. Also, great tips on roping. Now I want a rope!
PacoVL46 my Relentless jeans must just fit better over boots. Lol better go get you a new Future by Cactus then. 👍🏼

What hat does Dale have on, I love it!!! Anybody know
Matt Lowry not sure! You’d have to ask Dale. 🙂
Dale, are you gonna have a booth at Kowboy Christmas this year, and if so, what booth # is it? We'll be there 13th and 14th for the Finals
Dales interviewing everyone in the western world these days, he really found his niche.
taylor hill Dale is a fun guy to hang out with!
Relentless Nation yeah I bet, hes very charismatic! Bought a hat off him a few years back.
Well found his niche beyond going 90! .
Haha right, Taylor, 45 for 45. 👍🏼👊🏼
Relentless Nation Well Dale Yeah, come ahead now!
You can tell when Trevor has a rope in his hand, he is freakin dying to throw it.
I expected a lot more humor but was happy to see that it was very informative. 👍🏻

What’s the best lasso ?
The Cactus Futures 👊🏼

Mild Bill Starr I’ll bet it did feel funny, but most arenas are set up for right-handed ropers, and most horses are for right-handed ropers.
Can I make a rope tricks using that kind of lasso?
Yes, you can. Most people play PIG on the dummy with a rope like this.
@@RelentlessNation can you make a video or explain what pig is? I wanna do it
.
Is it good to be a left hand roper because I’m left handed and I feel awkward if I try with my right 😅
kāo do it right handed if your team roping unless you have a left handed heeler I'm left handed but I rope right handed because I team rope
What is different about the ropes today compared to the late 60’s?
Most team ropers had 7/16 full or scant. Nowadays lighter 3/8 full. The old days had 100% nylon. Now theri nylon poly blend.
I know how to rope pretty decent I team rope with my dad and I still watch this just to see dale and Trevor talking
TH-cam User thanks for watching. 👊🏼
What rope would you suggest for a beginner?
If you’re heading, an XS Future, heeling, I’d say a MS Future heel rope.
i feel like an idiot now XD im a self taught roper and i just hold the rope, swing it and throw it. 99% of the time i catch em though
Same . I throw in a kinda side ways underhand rytham way . But I catch about 85 to 90 percent lol.
I'm a self taught fly fisherman and u do it all wrong compared yo poeple but can put that fly out there and pick it right back up . I think we teach ourselves what works for us .
I it ain't broke don't fix it
what pants was trevor wearing right here ?
