I never could get comfortable with the thumb stud, so I got one of the first flipper versions. Great incognito travel blade.

I don't have one, but the tip up flipper would be cool for office carry along with a pen. I like the idea that someone else had to call the flipper version the CFO.

I have the flipper and the thumb stud…love them both. The flipper rocks.
I actually like the tip down thumb stud for shirt pocket use. Somehow it works better than in the back pocket.

I absolutely love the CEO flippers. I would love to see you guys do another updated comparison (yeah, I know, ANOTHER one... But I'll watch, I promise!) with some of the "inspired" models (like the Buck Cavalier, which I also love) that have come out in response.
    😁👍

the ceo was the first knife i remember that had so snappy thumbstud action. i have several versions, but missed out on the bladehq burgundy micarta. i definitely can't wait to check out the flippers esp the compact. i use the original tip down in my breast pocket, so tip down in this case is fine for me

Im a buck 110 guy. Old school 100 years of proven performance. Have carried one everyday for maybe 5 years? I had an abdominal surgury and couldnt wear a belt untill recently so i stopped carrying on me everyday since a 110 and leather sheeth is way too much for a pocket let alone in sweats or basketball sh I saw this in cabelas. Figured I'd give it a try as an everyday light duty option that i wouldn't notice in my pocket. If I'm wearing my work pants actually doing work, I'll have my buck. Regular clothes running regular errands and I'll have the ceo with me probably the rest of my life. Perfect for all the little light duty things like opening kids' toys and cutting food, lol. Great videos guys.

Would love to get a tip up carry thumbstud version . I always loved the clean lines of the original thumbstud version and feel like the flipper tab always threw that off .

I love the thumb stud version more. I especially love the Blade HQ exclusive with CF scales and s35vn. I took the clip and butt end off of my flipper version and put it on my thumb stud one. Now it’s a thumb stud version with a tip up clip.

Have you guys tried V Knives? They're based out of Frankies old area I think in Washington I unboxed the Olympian tonight and I think its going to be one of my new favorite hard use folders. It reminds me of the Emerson in construction but has its own design which used to be licensed under the fox knives brand, the knife also comes in a really nice box with cut out foam.

  • @ShadowWhippler

Had the CEO Flipper for a while(sold it), you really have to pinch the handles close to the pivot to have it flip open, if you hold it from the center it flexes quite a bit and just jamms the detent ball into the hole and it wont open. So i think i would prefer the thumb stud version of this after all. Ques the new CRKT Stylus looks to be overall improved version of the flipper variant, having aluminum handles it wont have the flex.

  • @kenfaulkner5544

I have the thumb stud with carbon fiber version. I wish I would have waited for the flipper because I find it hard to deploy as well. I only carry it when I have a shirt with a pocket as a back up for the back up. Best thing about it is so low key when figiting that No one freeks out.

Great video Frankie and Bird. CRKT always has some good looking designs but they always use very budget materials and price them like they have the more premium materials. And when they do use more premium materials, they triple the price of the knife. Which doesn't add up. Plus, unfortunately their QC is always questionable.

I want to buy a sack full of them and then just keep them in storage in case a non-knife friend ever needs a gift.
I think I'd probably want a flipper for the myself, but unless I know they are a lefty, I think the thumb stud version would be easier for non-knifey folks.

I want a flipper, either size, but not in 4116.

  • @EDCandLace
    @EDCandLace 2 ปีที่แล้ว

4116 will not have even close to the edge retention as even 7cr. The reason it's popular in kitchen wear is because it's soft, keep an edge hone on a honing steel will keep the edge going for a long time. In an EDC knife you will have very poor edge retention (like when 8cr13mov / aus8 will have NOTABLE better edge retention that says everything) HRC will be likely around 54-55. The good thing is 4116 is HIGHLY responsive to a ceramic hone and or stropping.
I will say with the same cutting medium being used let's say card board. A well done 8cr is going to out cut a well done 4116 by 30% or more. The apex is going to roll over really easily but with a storp you will straighten it right back out very easily. 4116 is moreless a gummyworm steel. It's a excellent cooking knife steel because a steel hone will realign the apex over and over and over and over because the steels so soft.
It's a very poor choice in a EDC knife steel, your going to have really poor edge retention but it will be quickly brought back with a couple passes on a strop. Honestly I would say well done 3cr would likely match it in edge retention lol. The only thing 4116 does well (other then it being hyper responsive to a hone and strop) is that it takes an extremely sticky fine edge, it will be gone even when you cut air with it but fresh off the stones it takes a nasty sharp edge, 14c takes a crazy sharp edge, 4116 with a clean apex feels easily stickier and sharper.

Beware the CEO flipper. Slight pressure of the flipper thumb tab while in a pocket will bring the knife tip slightly out of protective handle. First day of use I stabbed my finger while simply reaching in my pocket to grab the knife. Others have also complained of this fault. I returned mine.

It’s not sexist. It’s perfectly ok for men to have their own things. Women just want the privilege of a woman, power of a man, and accountability of a child and if they don’t get all the above they use guilt and shame tactics and use language like “sexiest, misogyny, etc”
I know you didn’t mean it like that it’s just a shame that our culture programs women to act like that.
