In this video, we kick things off by gathering lambs in a large field using our Kelpie, Moose. My dad then joins in as we sort lambs for selling, separate ewe lambs from the flock, and give them a proper dose. A few days later, I head to another farm to help with fattening lambs, where I show you around their setup. We also treat several lambs for lameness, sharing tips and insights on keeping the flock healthy and productive.

Awesome mate, keep these videos coming.
Moose is really starting to come on now with plenty of work. They say some kelpies you need to run out to the paddock to take the edge off so they listen better 🤣🤣 he definitely looks like a yard dog!

Always enjoy your videos, but this one was exceptional. I think because it was the simplicity of it. Farmer, dog, sheep, all in a gorgeous location. Your calm voice, and love for your animals is calming in a world that is full of unrest. Thank you again for taking the time and effort to bring us along your farming journey.
PS please give Moose a “good boy” and a headscratch for me 🐕🐾🦴🙂

Interesting video , always enjoy your vlogs
Moose Is coming on great guns and will no doubt be a very valuable member of the team
Is it common to house fattening lambs in Ireland, in the uk a lot of lambs are put onto stubble turnips etc to fatten - good for the sheep(&shepherd) and good for the crop farmer
Another really enjoyable video keep them coming

Interesting history around the Knocknarea mountains there, of Queen Mave. She was the only queen that seemed to like North County Cheviots, she had a history or fearsome warrior. Mostly like poached the sheep out of Scotland.

Very impressive work with you young Kelpie, nice footage. It reminds me of the relentless days of gathering horned sheep off high Rocky hills when I was a young lad in West Cork and Kerry. The lost and dizzy loners that would give you more of a work out that the whole bunch.
Keep fluids up and keep smiling.
I was wondering if you know of the Jim & Mervyn Gallowe up near Easky or some direction . I meet them buying NC rams and ewes. I lost their contacts.

I have two kelpies, they're the best. One loves the yards and is very full on, don't really use her in the paddocks as she just runs and forgets about me. My other is the paddock dog, her and I have moved mobs of over 1,000. Kelpies are great dogs but they need to be able to think for themselves, best thing I've been taught is to set the situations up for a win, particularly during training days, life will be easier as they progress. Now to find another Kelpie to add to the team....

Do you fatten horned organic lambs??
I’ve heard organic nuts isn’t great and that theirs no feed value in them

The Wiltshire shepherds of old on the chalk downland were known as lookers. Observation probably has always been the name of the game.I love the personality of Kelpies, but being such high energy dogs they need lots of work. Is it true that they have some Dingo blood?

I would have to think about cutting my losses. If two lambs are costing me half the time I spend on the whole flock, then I'd rather eat them myself and spend the time I save improving the healthier lambs. But I'm an economist, not a farmer.

Sheep farmers are not like that - 1000 sheep and 1 missing would look for them till found - dead or alive.

    • @agood1280
      @agood1280 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

You have to spend time and money to make money buddy
Most farmers don’t see this always be open to change
Especially this year lamb prices will soar pretty soon. From where they are now
      But that’s just my opinion
      As is you’re opinion
Fattening lambs in my experience is well worth it
