    Nice engine just purchased one my self. you could have saved a$150.00 and went to walmart and bought a tank and line for around $100. unless you got the motor on a payment plan.

    Great video !!! Do you know if the 2019 model 4hp also has the connection to run off an external gas tank ?

      @raoutdoors8099  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @daltonshaw3317 thanks for watching the video. I only know about the 2020 model in the video. But I do know that 4,6 and 8 horse power motors are the same motor. You can put a bigger carburetor on the 4 horse and it becomes an 8hp motor

    I just bought this exact motor. Can not find the kill button for it. How do you turn these off?

    • @raoutdoors8099
      @raoutdoors8099  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We’re you connect the red lanyard, that’s the kill switch. The motor won’t start if it’s not in place and if you pull it out it will stop the motor

    Hello. I have just taken delivery of a new 4 stroke 2.5hp (it's badged as a Mariner). There's oil on the case, on the carburetor, on the top of the fuel tank. Not loads, not like a whole sump's worth, but it's there. The oil level window shows no oil (as expected). The shaft and prop and everything below the engine case is dry. Do you think that it's possible that gearbox oil could have leaked up the shaft and into the engine case if the courier carried the box completely wrong, e.g. the prop shaft pointing upward with the engine case upside down at the bottom?
    The only alternatives are: it's had engine oil in it already, either they ship with just a little oil in them, or (please no) it's some kind of refurb that the seller hasn't stated.
    Got any thoughts fella? This is a bit of a nightmare.

    • @raoutdoors8099
      @raoutdoors8099  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the seller took it back as a return and passed it off as new. You should definitely take it back and inform them of your situation and ask for a new motor. The motor comes with a warranty so I wouldn’t play around and simply inform them of all your findings.
      Thank you for watching and reaching out for advice. I hope 🤞 you get great customer service and all your issues are resolved. My motor run great no issues I took my time breaking it in and I’m looking forward to spending time in the water creating content for my TH-cam channel.

      @@raoutdoors8099 Thx for that m8. I got lucky with a phone call to the dealer yesterday (Saturday) L, who despite being closed for 4 hours was still there working. He promised it was a normal thing, said he gets many phone calls about it. Said they put a thin oil in for build, and it's not unusual at all for it getting turned about in transport and so the oil runs. So if anything happens it's on him. I was also concerned that it came with utterly not-completed PDI paperwork and it has already had an online PDI before shipping, the warranty is registered as new (there's a registration number in my paperwork). So should be all good I guess. I shall be putting it in a wheelie bin full of water today and do the first couple of hours of run in. Anything goes amiss and I'll post up.

    Thank you for the video. I have n excursion 5 inflatable 5 person raft. It's officially rated to take 3.5hp but I'm thinking you can actually go up to the 4hp and was considering buying this motor. Was wondering if you think the 4hp might be too much and if I should just go with the official rating @ 3.5hp. Not trying sink my boat or spend $1k+ only to realize it's too big for my raft though I wouldn't think the .5 extra HP would make a big difference in weight.

    • @raoutdoors8099
      @raoutdoors8099  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would go with the 4hp motor,the weight is negligible and you might find yourself getting a different boat in the future to mount it on

    Can you comment further into the tank and connections
    I’m new to outboard motors and mine came without one

    • @raoutdoors8099
      @raoutdoors8099  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the motor is less than 4 hp you put the gas ⛽️ directly into the tank on the motor, open the valve to let the gas into the carburetor and your ready to start the engine. On larger engines you have an external gas tank that will hold more gas providing longer range. This requires a gas line that goes from the tank to the motor. The gas line has a primer ball that you squeeze and a quick connect fitting on each end to connect to the motor on one end and the gas tank on the other

    Nice engine I'll go watch more of your videos but 250$ for an external tank that's way too much I remember looking for a replacement tank for my engine and the official yamaha 5 gal was around 90

    • @raoutdoors8099
      @raoutdoors8099  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching!! Yes it was a bit expensive and I probably could have got it for less but it has a gas gauge and it came with the primer hose and connectors to attach it to the motor. It also said something about the cap safe from evaporation approved in the state of California for emissions some nonsense

    I bought a new brand new 9.9 Mercury but there was oil leak in the box. is that normal? why it can happen? I guess it happened in the shipment and happened because of wrong carrieage.

    • @raoutdoors8099
      @raoutdoors8099  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They don’t add the oil to the engine it is in a plastic oil container. You must add the oil to the motor

    • @dustyrhodes8077
      @dustyrhodes8077 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They usually run the engine during pdi then remove the oil . But there's always a bit left inside that finds it's way out during transit.

    • @andrewgoodall2183

      @@dustyrhodes8077 Oh God that's so good to hear. I have just taken delivery of a brand new 2.5hp four stroke and the carb and fuel tank have oil all over them. I'm freaking out wondering if the gearbox oil might have somehow found its way up the shaft (I have no idea about how these things are constructed) if the thing was shipped totally upside down by the carrier or something.

      When transporting I put the outboard in the trunk of my car with the handle side facing down, this is what is recommended according to the owner’s manual. I watched a video on TH-cam you can swap out the carburetor for the 6 horsepower carb.the 4 and 6 are the same motor they put a smaller carb on the 4 that’s the only difference

      For me, with a Mariner (rebadged Mercury for some reason or other), it's "parts fabricated in China, assembled in Japan for the UK market", and in this day and age, I'm happy with that.
