As a Twins fan, the decision to spend on Royce is a tough one. Luckily a lot of his stuff isn't crazy expensive yet, so you can find some deals and minimize the risk.
I just picked up a BGS 10 Bowman Chrome 1st Blue /150 non auto for $62, so I am not too concerned about the risk.
Yeah, I hope he can get a full, healthy season in next year!

Great topics today guys. What year were SP’s and SSP’s first rolled out? Do they have different numbering on the back, or other ways to differentiate them, say if you only bought one box, ripped it open and stored it away?

The first known variations are from 2007. I think like 4-5 cards.
Tulo is one of them.
2009 topps has the first series of variations - almost all legends/retired players with 2 active: sabathia and Maddux.
2010 there are more legends and sone pie in the face celebration images. Check out the Strasburg card. It’s amazing.
2012 was the first year with a full series of variations active players. Two of them are unofficial SSP - Pujols and Reyes.
To see image galleries just choose a set and Google it - “2013 topps variations” Beckett usually has checklists and galleries.
Besides the different images, the only other way to distinguish the variations is the code on the back. It can be tough!
Have you guys done any educational videos on SP and SSPs? I didn’t know what year they started, good to know!
Clump - a compacted mass or lump of something (cluster)
The complete set in 2023 had a chrome variation in every box. Made it possible profit of the box but would have to gem the chrome. Don’t recommend doing, some of the cards come dinged in the corners. I got lucky with my box.

@@Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin I got two as an experiment to see if you could make money. I got a Carroll and Jordan walker. Jordan walker bad corner ding. The Carroll gemmed and sold for around $125ish before this season started. Also graded some of the paper variations and ended up making probably $5-10 per variation. All in all probably profited about $40-50 but not really worth the sweat haha
Jeff, I looked at your IMDB after hearing that you worked on bad Batch and saw some other stuff you worked on. What movie were you on when you were looking down the optic of a sniper?

Modern day autos have been a disappointment for me, as I am largely a vintage collector.. it makes me sad to see the disregard some of these players have for their fans…in only their first year !! Look at Harmon Killebrew, Sandy Koufax, Ken Griffey Jr., Jackie Robinson, Cal Ripken Jr., Hank Aaron, etc. guys signing their names perfectly and legibly for Decades. With the money they are paid, you would think we could get more than a scribble.

I think the problem is mostly volume. They have to sign way more cards and lot do so in the middle of the season, quality sigs have suffered.

Yeah good points. I’m sure Red Sox fans feel otherwise about the Pedroia issue, and there were definitely moments of immaturity earlier in his career. But I think he’s a really good player and it’s worth looking at his cards 🤷🏻♂️

Some people just heal different, an unfortunately Dustin was one of those people. If I remember correctly he was suspended for it right? Deeming it a "Dirty play" feel free to correct me if I'm wrong tho 💯💪🏻

“There are no reasons to collect any base cards” when you think sports cards are an investment and forget about collecting all together. The only cards to collect are 1000s of dollars. Lolz.
Agree with the first half: no reason to collect any base cards if you are considering cards an investment. If you’re a collector, go with whatever you love, no matter the dollar amount. Guys from your team? Yes! Great images? Sure! Every card ever made of a player? Why not!?
While I hope my Freeman and Ohtani cards don’t lose all their value, I also love to collect “valueless” base or commons of unique or bizarre hats/headwear. I know they will never go up in value (or hold any value!), but I don’t mind.
That’s the great thing about the hobby, there is room for all types: speculators, investors, collectors, flippers, breakers - at all dollar amounts.
