      The only true crime podcast I've seen is one I stumbled on called "Crue Trime" (TH-cam = 'Better Off Red') - She tells her stories while applying make-up - which is oddly entertaining - maybe because I know nothing about make-up, and couldn't fathom spending that much time on it - like a cat watching someone take a bath. Or maybe it's how seemingly clownish applications get blended, in the end, into a thing of beauty - And, of course, the stories are good to.

    I’m just still surprised true crime junkie is still around after they plagiarized all of their early episodes. Ashley Flowers and co. blatantly plagiarized smaller podcasts and books several times, got caught, and never apologized.
    I was binge listening to a lot of true crime podcasts during the pandemic and the first I discovered was MFM (My favorite Murder) then when I'm all caught up I switch to another podcast then when I listened to Crime Junkie and can't help but notice similarities.

      I knew a couple that murdered her husband and buried the body in a pig pen and poured a concrete slab over it. They also promptly moved in together, among other suspicious activity - and talked to 'somebody' about what they did - because cops were digging up the hog lot within a month. Btw, they both served approx 3-5 years in prison - for murder!
      A hog lot is a pretty effective way to dispose of a body. Domesticated pigs are not vicious, but they will eat just about anything. A body, dead or unconscious, would be nudged and nipped at - and, if it didn't react - eaten - bones and all.....

    Sorry to be the stereotypical comment section finger wagging vibe killer, but it's a bummer anytime I see Ashley and this podcast get propped up as something good and valuable and fun. The weird fuzzy line between tragedy and entertainment the true crime genre straddles is understandably complicated, and I don't think it's always done irresponsibly, but Crime Junkie has flown cheerfully over that line in so many different ways and I wish more true crime fans were critical and strict about how unacceptable it is.
    There are lots of stories, some involving plagiarism (to which their response was childish and dismissive), but I'll never forget hearing about a live show they did where, in front of a theatre full of fans, they talked about whether the father of a missing girl might be guilty like it was a bit of fun gossip, all while that father had already been acquitted. They might have known, they might not have known, and both possibilities are horrible in different ways. It's really gross stuff.

      But wait… You could listen to crime about children before? This is why society skin is is going through crime! The majority are very self involved. I didn’t mean to make you feel bad. Obviously, you care about your kids and stuff. But do you know what I mean? Does that make sense not to you cause I don’t wanna be rude like that it’s not fair for you to be able to celebrate your children and then me troll you. But this comment really made me want to make another comment or statement that I feel like we are very self involved with our families. However what Ashley is saying is it is other families. Just like Israel Keyes. How the hell was he able to murder an 18-year-old when he loved his daughter so much? So for me people who love their kids too much, to help with other crimes or just part of the problem, you know what I mean? We’ve gotta put in more effort people!

    The problem with trying to dispose of a body in a body of water is as it decomposes it will bloat and release gases and could float. To prevent that before you sink it puncture each organ with a long knife to let the gases out. Another method is to tightly wrap the body in chicken wire so as it bloats the wire will cut into the skin to help let the gases out, but puncturing the organs is easier. If burying the body bury it vertically with the feet up with at least 3 feet of dirt between the feet and the surface. You can liquify a body by boiling it with lye but that takes longer and is more involved.

    I love Conan, Matt, Sona and all things Coco. Huge, longtime fan. I can’t get on board with crime and murder as entertainment, however. Balance this interview with an interview of family members of murder victims. The ‘fascination’ with murder trends toward the glamorization of criminals.

    • @rachelropp1083
      @rachelropp1083 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The thing is that entertainment exists to serve a purpose for people - it allows us to enter and engage with different scenarios we might never otherwise engage with and work through them It's very normal, and very healthy, to be interested in things like true crime or even scary stories. True Crime allows people (especially women, who are the most at risk) to work through fears and anxieties they have about crime, and to feel better about their life (eg they are neither a victim OR a perpetrator) and there's even an evolutionary benefit - we're hardwired to want to observe and watch things that may help us deal with that circumstance in the future. Humans have always been interested in bad stuff, whether its fairy tales or horror movies or urban legends or real tales.
      Glamorizing the criminal isn't as common as people think - we forget that many of these criminals were actually very charming and appealing in real life and that's exactly how they were able to get close to their victims or get away with it. There are definitely people who are unhealthily attached to true crime, but those are very rare (and pretty obvious). Im also saying all of this as a person who hates true crime haha. But I recognize that I get a lot of my same needs out by reading fantasy books that involve murder and betrayal and harm too.

    • @EJ1443
      @EJ1443 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rachelropp1083 Wow that's an interesting way to put it!! As a sort of True Crime fan, yes, I think a lot of it is just like what would cause someone to do that? But on the flip side, I definitely understand how it can or even is just gross and disrespectful to victims and their families. I do feel guilty for watching or listening to True Crime b/c this is someone's trauma dressed as entertainment. But there's definitely some major problems in the True Crime comm.
      What nobody else points out is, there's a lot of BS pseudoscience in True Crime/policing. For example, body language experts. There's no actual evidence that you can detect deception via someone's body language. Furthermore, if you're dealing with a victim of a crime, their body language can be different b/c they're traumatized and cops are asking them uncomfortable questions about the event so they can do their jobs. It's Also dangerous if you're dealing with neurodivergent people b/c they may have different behaviors/mannerisms.
      Same goes for criminal profilers. Last I heard, there's not a lot of evidence to support their claims. I would wager hand writing experts are also pseudoscience. These pseudoscience stuff is actually VERY dangerous and irresponsible.

    My Favorite Murder is the biggest true crime podcast, just to be clear. Crime Junkies is one of the worst of the genre. MFM & RedHanded are the top ones.

    The reason why women are so obsessed with true crime content is because it lets them fantasize about how they would survive a run-in with a murderer/serial killer since they are frequently the victims. Whenever a man is obsessed with true crime stuff like Conan is, it's really weird.

    Ashley Flowers is a known plagiarist. I do wish Conan had chosen one of the many other true crime podcasters to be on his show.
