Schlansky and Sona are real life characters that are too good for any writer to write, and Conan can't help but like them and make them part of his show. They provide more to the show by being characters than their individual jobs.
Sona and Conan really are perfect for each other. He couldn't ask for a funnier, sassier, and more authentic assistant and she would've long gotten fired by any other boss lol
And they are both the most annoyed by each other, which is perfect, so no one else is victimized by the arrangement lmao
I think Conan likely has a box on Team Coco's employee performance review form marked "can make me laugh", which is why Sona and Jordan will always be there even though they might not be the most efficient workers

Despite what they project, I think overall Sona is efficient. No matter how cool/chill a person is, he would not keep you in paid work if you are not getting things done.

I’ve been watching Conan since the early 90s when I was a kid because it was one of few channels we got on my tv. I’ve been a big fan since. He’s so funny and quick witted. what I like about him is he’s just himself he doesn’t try hard and he’s never rude to his guest like many other television host. You don’t hear nasty rumors like Ellen about how he treats his staff. He’s very loyal and treats them like family.

I absolutely love these special intros where guest says their feeling about being Conan's friend and the conversation continues and we just hear the bass drum kicking away in the background (in the audio version.) The Jeff Goldblum intros were a real treat but this one is up there, such a hilarious and very fitting intro to the nature of Conan and Sona's banter. 😂
I love that Conan can make light of any situation and turn it into something humorous and fun. I loved this whole episode

Bets on why Sona was late?
Renewing her edible subscription online but her card didn't work so she had to go to the potshop and do so in person. Then after doing so she got into a long winded conversation about different strains and favorite brownies. Mid convo she said "oh would you look at the time, I need to go the job I'm 8 mins late for already, I must leave now and listen to Billy eilish along the way! Tah Tah for now my fellow weed homie!" Then peels out... yes.. that's what happened 👀
