Based on my quick ride today, I'd say the blowoff valve is a lot more audible in the car than what you can tell from the video. I liked it, lets you know you are in a turbo car. Also liked the Titanium exhaust. Oops I guess that's the next video. Nice to see this beautiful road again.
Hey Gary, it was nice running into you in the neighborhood and taking you for a ride along for a quick pull. I am enjoying the turbo sounds as well. Your right, that Titanium exhaust does sound good. That video is all shot and I need to edit it still, will be up sometime next week. 👍
I had to remove my Turbosmart and return to stock-It performed flawlessly for 3 months when I was running a 16psi target tune. When I had the car tuned (19psi target 20.5 recorded max) it started to audibly leak at high RPM. Typical wistle, boost leak type sound. I haven't had any issues since I reinstalled the factory diverter.
Thanks for sharing your experience with higher boost settings. Definitely saved me some trouble shooting once I do flex fuel and turn up the boost. I wonder why the Turbosmart one will not hold up with slightly higher PSI. Definitely disappointing to hear that. Thanks for watching.
@@JDMRightHandDrive the Turbosmarts may have some sort of safety fault built in that won't allow them to hold boost over a set amount, no matter what your target is. That said I was never sold on that ill fitting turbosmart O-Ring either; that thing needs to lock in place out of the box. I've never had a diverter valve or part that holds boost, that didn't retain the o-ring.
Perfect timing. Just got my 2023 Ignition Red WRX after an 80 yo man totaled my sapphire blue 22 WRX when he ran a red light in his truck. It’s my Fifth new WRX. Always get the new redesigns and refreshes.
Glad your ok. How frustrating having your 22 WRX get totaled out. Ignition Red is nice, I have only seen one in that color so far. Congrats on your new VB again! I love this platform, so refined in stock form. Thanks for watching.👍
That is a good idea. Thanks for the tip💪 That was so frustrating to deal with when you cant reach or see anything when trying to mount it to the turbo.
Well, this is my first JDM I just picked up a 2022 sport and I am about as ignorant as it gets with everything and I’m definitely wanting that blow off valve noise! Some people are saying not to use this. Some people are saying go for it….. is there a better option? I don’t want to hurt my baby in anywhere anytime soon.
The dual port does partially vent to atmosphere, does cause the car to slightly run rich between shifts. When coming out of gear into neutral and rpms drop the bov causes the rpms to drop to low, pop back up and wander around before idling correctly. It makes the car run weird, hard to tune VTA bov with a MAP sensor, car need a MAP sensor and stand alone to run correctly. I am putting mine back to stock next time I am under my car.
Drunkmann Tuning says he can't compensate well for any of these and to stick with the stock bypass valve. I personally get SO much noise with my ETS intake, it's enough anyway.
I could not verify that those fit with the 22 WRX. I would prefer to have those because they would match the sounds of the other speakers with my car. If you install them and they fit, let me know. I would probably swap mine out.
Hi, great video! I just got a new stock 2022 wrx. I just bought one bov turbosmart blow off and was wondering if there any issues or problem if I put it on my car. 😄
Just installed mine yesterday and now seeing the car may run leaner since it’s atmospheric. I haven’t encountered any issues with the car yet, first day driving it to work today after some light pulls to hear sound after the install. I do have the stock and will switch over with any immediate signs of shut offs or idle rumbles
Does change the idle of the car. For example if you take it out of gear coming to a stop. When rpms fall then go below normal idle range, ecu counters this and revs engine back to 2k. RPMs wander around for a few seconds before finding normal idle. This is because when BOV vents to atmosphere it causes the engine to run rich. I am going to be putting my stock BOV back on tomorrow in preparation for my Pro dyno tuning session on the 12th. Hoping to make 350 WHP on 92 octane. Good question and thanks for watching.
does the BOV void the warranty? The only thing I'd do differently is to block off the turbo after removing the hose to prevent anything from getting in there
I sold the ETS exhaust because it was a little loud and had an some drone. I have a Noble Titanium exhaust on right now. My OEM wheels were on for the winter, my CE28 are getting new Hancook RS4 tires this week for my track set up 265 35 18. I just picked up some GR STI wheels for my daily set up. FMIC next, flex fuel, jpipe and a tune. Still waiting for a set of good coilovers to come out as well. Thanks for watching.
Only issue I notice is when you come out of gear and rpms drop, they dip below normal idle value of 800 and then engine revs up to about 1500 and wanders around a bit before normal idle. I am going to remove it because of this issue and go back to stock.
I run this BOV with stock tune. Only issues I had is when you come out of gear and into neutral coming to a stop and rpms sometimes below 800 and then ecu freaks out and revs engine back up to 2k rpm. After a few seconds rpm will stabilize back to normal. I did also have the the RPM drop to low a few times to where the car stalled. I ended up installing my stock bov when I had a protune done on my car.
So I’m curious, on what’s going on, I installed the same BOV and it doesn’t make no sound idk if that’s an issue, and it’s slightly annoying because now I’ll be driving and the car looses power….Help me 😩
Are you positive that the o-ring seal seated properly. Sounds to me like you have a boost leak. Loss of power and no bov sound sound like pressure loss to me.
@@JDMRightHandDrive I’m pretty sure we had it on correctly, but we’ve been having issues with the wiring it came with, it’s all messed up, it’s pretty hard to explain what going on over texting in a sense 😂🤦♂️
are you tuned when you installed the bov? i know they say no tune is required but when i had installed mines on stock tune at wot then shifting the car engine tends to shut off. did it a few times same results. once i put back stock bov no issues.
I have not had that issue like you with my car shutting off between shifts. I have had some idle issues when coming out of gear to stop or brake. RPM's drop below normal idle and then IACV compensates and rpm's jump way up to 2k or so and wander around before finding proper idle again. My car has only stalled once when rpm's dropped to low. I am going to put mine back to stock as well when I install the Perrin turbo inlet next week. The vent to atmosphere is making the car run lean. Really need a MAP sensor to properly tune a vented BOV. Have fun with your VB and thanks for watching.

Looks like the WRX is lower priority to them at this time.🤔 I know eventually they will come out with some goodies for us WRX owners. Thanks for watching.
Hm... Might want to get a tune update. The calculated MAF tune in the car now expects the air to return. Your going to run a tad rich when it releases any air to atmosphere. Granted it's not a full vent to atmosphere it still will be off, quick update. Send your tuner a quick log. Make sure the cars fully warmed up when you send the log.
Great idea. I will have to do that. I want to get a top mount or FMIC with an intake soon and flex fuel set up. I will do a pro tune once I have all those goodies on my car. Just waiting for other brands to release their products. Thanks for the info and for the channel support. 💯
Awesome video, came by just to see how the BOV was working for you. I also ran into the same struggle with the o-ring. I actually just took mine off because I was running into bogging issues after Highway driving. Keep an eye on that in case you don’t intend to run a tune on it. I have Highway on my daily commute so it was a deal breaker, but may be something most wouldn’t notice. Enjoy the car and I’ll stay tuned to see what you do with it next
My car has been running the same as normal on the highway as well as in the city with stop and go traffic. I have put about 300 miles on since the install without any issues, fingers crossed! Wonder what or why this caused your car to not run correctly and mine runs just fine.
@@JDMRightHandDrive That’s awesome news, yeah I am not sure myself. Just wanted to give a heads up in case it wasn’t a my car specific issue. Will running the bov be bad in the long run with a completely stock car and will it void warranty
You can try a small amount of di electric grease to hold the O ring next time.

Do you plan aftermarket intake?
I wonder which would make more turbo noise, intake vs. blowoff valve
Does require a tune to put a bov on the car have you retuned the car or was this a replacement for another one you already had
