Let's be real. The women's division for a long time had a handful of really amazing work but the majority of them couldn't even lace the handful's boots.
It was called a Singapore Cane match because in Singapore canes similar in appearance to those used in WWE are commonly used as a form of corporal punishment. The entire subject of caning in Singapore even has its own Wikipedia page, that's how you know it's legit.
And from a wrestling standpoint, it stems from The Sandman in ECW, who used it as his signature weapon after an incident where an American tourist got caned in China. ECW even did a Singapore Cane match of their own between Tommy Dreamer and Sandman, where the loser had to take ten strikes to the back (Likely where the Cody/MJF and Wardlow/MJF ten whips stip came from.) That match pretty much made Dreamer too. Who got over with the fans for being able to take that much punishment.
Wasnt it made a singapore cane match because some stupid ass kid got a caning as punishiment for doing something stupid/illegal while in Singapore not too long before the match?
It's funny that they reminded taker that hells gate was banned. Even though Undertaker used hells gate against Shawn Michaels at WM 25 when the move was still banned.
The one good thing to come out of Santina Marella was the reveal at the very end of the storyline that she actually was Santino's sister as he was seen running after as she left in tears. It was almost worth it just for that punchline. Almost.
These kinds of matches just show you how inept and moronic Vince McMahan can be when it comes to booking and common sense. It actually offends me on how much he lacks in common sense.
Santina Marella being 3 spots on this list is crazy wow but also the fact that The Great Khali is kind of 3 spots also 2 spots of his own plus involved with one of the Santina Marella spots
Not to disparage the two involved in the match, as they are both bonafide legends at this point, but Adam said it best. Wrong stip, wrong pace, and wrong placement on the card.
@Adam N lmao, this ain't the roast you think it is - considering you're basically saying AEW has too high of a standard in it's matches. (Not even true, there's tons of stinkers in the company like all promotions....) But eh nonetheless you rarely see much of AEW on Cultaholic lists because the longer history, ease of footage / image access and the views a WWE based list would draw in is probably much more rewarding for these guys.

I'm going to take a quote from the commentary on the Mickie James vs Alicia Fox review. The commentary "is out of place". I feel these reviews are fishing so much to find anything wrong or out of place with a not so horrible match to make it sound horrible that the commentary is becomes inauthentic. Mickie James vs Alicia Fox was not nearly one of the top 10 worst matches of 2009.
Alicia definitely wasn't ready yet, and having a rushed 5-minute match wasn't going to help her at all. It was alos another year or so before she really hit her stride imo....best northern lights suplex in the biz boy!
I'll take women's wrestling 2009 over women's wrestling 2023. It was still clumsy as all hell, but at least they were aware of it and it replaced the 'try hard' attitudes with amusing scripts.
