The fact that Wrestlemania 21 had two of the worst matches of that year but still be regarded as one of the best WMs ever is a testament to how strong the rest of the card was.

I felt bad for both Trish and Christy. They were put in a bad spot. Christy was not ready for her push and Trish was stuck trying to carry a super green woman at Mania. Vince REALLY loved humiliating Big Show it seems.
@@GMRay739 But she grew into her role considering that she was hired for being a pretty model with no prior wrestling experience. She really worked hard and earned her spot as one of the GOATs in female wrestling!
That hissy fit was what made that match memorable. I agree with you. Otherwise it would have been another instance of opponents running into Hogan's fists.
I'm not going to lie, but for all the backstage screwjobs HBK pulled off backstage in the 1990's, he deserved to have Hogan feed him some of his own medicine.
The Trish vs Christy match was because they wanted to do Trish vs Lita but she was still recovering from her neck injury. So they went with Christy, the push was because she was the playboy cover girl. They ran that same playboy mania story with Sable, Maria, Ashley Masaro, Chyna(exclusively at wmx7

2005 was one of the best years of WWE. I was only 4 years old but man Batista finally breaking from Evolution capturing Heavyweight championship becoming face of smackdown. Randy Orton and Undertaker legendary fued that everyone thought ended after Undertaker defeated him at Mania but he came coming back. Eddie and Rey Legendary I am your Papi fued dor custody of Dominik man what a time to live in
I was 24 in October 2005 and while 2005 was one of the best years in my life I can’t say that was because of WWE. I started watching WWE (WWF at the time) in 1986 seeing Hulkamania at it’s highest and lowest and Hogan’s rebirth 10yrs later as Hollywood Hogan in the nWo. I got to see wrestling both WWF and WCW at their lowest but for me 1996 wrestling picked up as a new guy in WWF called Steve Austin caught my attention and after his KOTR 96 Austin 3:16 speech making him my new favourite wrestler above the Undertaker. But seeing 1997 then 98 & 99 those were the best years of wrestling, almost every week on WWF & WCW were great and with you being born in 2001 (I’m sorry for that as growing up in the 80’s & especially the 90’s were special and you’ll never get to experience such an amazing time before the world turned to shit in the mid 2000’s) you missed out on a magical time to be a wrestling fan and a magical time to be a teenager in the 90’s. So I’m sure 2005 WWE was great for you but 6-7yrs earlier would’ve been a whole different world for you and that’s if you got the programme due to it’s sexual innuendos
IDGAF what you say, Hogan vs Michaels was a match that I thouroughly enjoyed simply because I love sports entertainment, and consider me very Sports Entertained! 😂😂😂
2004( oh geez the year when some of the attitude era stars left) Brock vs goldberg(mania 20) Taker vs the Dudley (or alot more of the great american bash 2004) Triple h vs Eugene (summerslam) The boxing match at armageddon Divas dodgeball
tbf with HBK v Hogan. the original plan was after HBK turned heel on Hogan after a tag match was for the two legends to have at least 3 PPV matches however Hogan could only do the one at Summerslam because he needed surgery done for past injuries and original plans was for HBK to go over and win the first bout too. However Hogan just like in the 80s and 90s flat out refused to lose and even threatened to not appear at Summerslam unless he was given the W cause well Hogan refuses to lose to small men. so HBK who was furious over the match decision change decided to intentionally ruin the match by overselling every attack he took from Hogan to embarrass him
At the time I saw the Big Show vs. Akebono I thought it was interesting because I thought it was real due to how quickly Big Show lost. Knowing that it was a work made it horrible.
Ay man, I'll let Hogan vs. HBK slip. Yeah it was a crazy nutty match but I don't think one can measure the joy of HBK making a joke out of that egomaniacal hot dog weirdo.
@@K1ngHardaway They really weren't 😂 I still love Shawn, atleast he didn't insult a whole community for being better at wooing his daughter than he himself was.
@K1ngHardaway I know, I get it. I never liked Hogan before. On first impression, I thought he looked absolutely weird and overcooked. Shawn on the other hand seemed entertaining.
One of the best things Michaels did was make hogan look like the deadset drop kick he actually is. Only we didn’t find out until later. Shawn knew and this was his way of letting US know that hogan was a JOKE
According to Christy it was supposed to be a ten minute match that she had memorized and was comfortable with but then they cut their time and Trish had to call it to her in the ring and she was so new she wasnt comfortable improvising yet so her nerves got the better of her, she didn't even know what "call it in the ring" meant as she'd barely had any matches up until this point
I started watching on and off in 2002-2003 and in mid 2004 I was fully locked in to Pro Wrestling. So 2005 was my first full year of actively watching. Well just the blue brand since we didn't have cable.
Yeah, Big Show lost a fake sumo match, but I applaud WWE for at least trying to do something different, even if it wasn't great. Watching the DVD, the crowd definitely makes noise when the two men take off their robes, and they're not totally silent during the match either. I don't know why people talk negatively about Big Show (and Akebono) wearing the sumo attire. It's not like Americans have never heard of sumo. What did they expect them to wear? At least WWE knew to keep the match very short. It's not that long, nor should it have been. Doing the ceremonial stuff was probably put in there so the whole segment wasn't just entrances, then a match shorter than the entrances. I wouldn't want to see another sumo match (real or pre determined in WWE) but I appreciate the novelty of them at least trying something different. And the history of Wrestlemania is trying something different. Sometimes works. Sometimes doesn't.
I think you're being unfair on the Maven match. Out of context I get why you're down on it but with the context of the show the E had just had 2 wrestlers suffer crippling knee injuries in the two previous matches. This was most likely booked this way to try and break any pattern from forming.
2004 and continued throughout 2005 was when they made serious cuts and by then they had very little divas left. So they brought in all these new diva hires that had just started straight into the ring. And it was bad. I didn’t mind it as a kid. Now, I’m kinda grateful we got actual women’s wrestling now.
Call me a simp, i don't care but I'd say fighting for Trish Stratus let alone the reason to see her in lingerie is a pretty good reason. Big ups to Viscera lmao. And listen, from a women's wrestling standpoint i understand but i can't be mad at a group of women rolling around in their underwear for 5 minutes. Besides, this was around the time i started watching wrestling. I still have no issue with the Divas Search lol. I can admit though, we all know, WWE didn't care about women's wrestling for the longest time.
