VLOG# 18: Training in Session 1

  • Back to the basics.
    In this session, I'm learning the "Split the Difference" aiming system that LIttle Mike created. I have to completely disregard my aiming technique that I've grown very fond of over the past 30 years. The reason I'm doing so is with my technique, I'm very inconsistent. I've hit many balls with his system and once I master it, it will be very simple and accurate. Mike also teaches me the approach, the setup, the stroke and some basic english with his system. Everything I've learned in my life has been self taught. Having a pro personally teaching you is a completely different thing. I've vowed to Little Mike that I will start from scratch, forget everything I know, and learn his ways. He's vowed to make me a real player and get me from my APA 6 skill level to as high as possible.

    Having fun with split the difference and had a few questions and a comment.
    Q1. You split the difference from 50 to either 25 or 75 but you don't mention splitting the difference between o and 25 or 100 and 75. I assume if it is less than 100 but more than 75 you aim to 100 and pivot towards 75?
    Q2. The same is true with 100 or 0 edge to edge. There is quite a spread for thin cuts and pure edge to edge may be too thin for many shots so I assume it is a perception issue where practice gives you the intuition to know how much the edges need to overlap.
    Q3. In the same vein nothing is said about how much to split the difference. I assumed it was an equal split but I don't think an equal split is enough different angles to make all shots. Sometimes it seems like a 70 30 split between 0 and 25 or 25 and 50 might be needed.
    Mike is a great player and has such great intuition I believe it is very hard for him to say what he does in mechanical terms. I think he has a feel for the shots and could make a great number of corrections simultaneously without conscious thought. Still I applaud you both for bringing a new approach to the pool public at large. I am sure these ideas will help a lot of people and for those who don't like it I would say "ok so don't use it." :-) Thanks!!

      You always start aiming at center of cb to center of ob which would be 50 then you split the difference between center and edge of ob 50/100 = 75 and pívot your cue to that point on the cue ball. Hope it helps and not confuse you more sir.

    I am UPA Speed Level 4. I won my last tow matches against SL5 players. I'm pret-ty sure I will advance to SL5 when the last game is processed. So! I'm making the shots now. It's time to start working on cue ball positioning and looking for runs. 🙂

    If I am first aiming center cue ball to center object ball and then pivot to three quarters of the object ball
    Wouldn't that add spin to the cue ball because I would be hitting it slightly of center after the pivot?

    Ken I been watching all your videos and like to say Mike is a great instructor wish I had one in my area but I live in a place that is not big on pool, so there are no instructors available to me. But I just want to say I've been following your progress in all your videos and it gives me hope that maybe one day if I follow Mikes and Your instructions my game can come up to where I want it. So keep up the good work both of you guys and once again thanks for the videos I will be waiting with expectation for new videos.

    Thank you so much for putting this out here for us. I'm basically a beginner but love the game and been playing it off and on but never knew what to do or where to aim. I've decided to take learning the game seriously because of my love for it. After seeing this video a few times I tried it out with minimal practice and in the first few games I was putting 3 and 4 balls in a row dead in the hole and never did that before. I have to practice it more but this method is for me. Thanks again it really works!

    If you are aiming to center then switching to 3/4 why don't you just aim 3/4 in the first place? If it must be a pivot, what is the stationary point? the CB or the bridge? If it is the bridge do you hit the CB off center? I have tried this system with moderate success but am not 100% sure I am doing it correct.

    • @FaDaVlogs
      @FaDaVlogs  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      From my experience, you have to move the bridge ever so slightly so you're not putting unwanted English on the cue ball. You aim at center then move to point because it teaches beginners to focus on the point.

    Hey what's up nice going on the trainning, one of my questions is, when little Mike tells u to pivot to the 3/4 does he mean from the 50 center of object ball pivot you're vision or the tip of the cue stick, I'm anxious to know more but here in Staten island I can't find a coach. I play for the APA league in Brooklyn NY. I need help, I'm a level 5 but I really would like to get this aiming system down.

    • @FaDaVlogs

      When I first started learning this system, I completely lost control of the Cue ball but about 3 to 6 weeks into it, I finally started getting control of that little sucker. I think I started training with Mike right after week 4 and sucked ass until about week 12. Stick with it and it will come to you.

    • @cueball5858
      @cueball5858 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SwtTrisha8 It's a simple half ball shot where you aim from the center of the cue ball directly at the edge of the object ball, halfway up. Commonly called 'a half ball hit', but given a fancy new name and fancy explanation in these videos.

    Question in regard to the pivot. I know he starts out c to c then pivots. When he pivots , does he pivot the tip to the 3/4 with the center of the tip or the edge of the tip / ferrule? On a couple shots' in one of the other videos it looks like after the pivot, his bridge hand is no longer in the center but appears to be moved over from the center about a tip .
