A fully etched welded aluminum boat!!! Few, way to few, builders remove the mill scale with acid- don't etch their boats prior to finish but these guys did!! Congratulations on a nicely finished boat.
that looks like an awesome platform to fish from. those west coast boats with the forward raked windscreens sure are distinctive. really don't see anything like it on the pilothouse boats over here on the east coast. i love that there's so much variety among the designers in the different parts of the country.
I did buy a CK worldwide MT200 for doing aluminum TIG. I have already done some small aluminum repairs and parts for a few of my buddies boats. Been applying at local welding shops but they seem to want a full redseal and not an foundation apprentice. So just trying to make things happen on my own.
aluminium makes so much sense, no rusting, no delamination of fibreglass and no gel coats peeling off, are you going to coat the aluminium wth a protective coating or some sort ?
Thanks! I’ve talked to a couple people recently about building a Yellow Point. That bay is 20x42, and I think it’s a 16’ ceiling. I also have a 20x25 bay where we had the materials
Just curious, do you design your boats? If you do, what software do you use? I'm trying to learn via Rhynocad but havin a hard time starting with designing a little pram
Most of them I do, this one is a Bruce cope design. I have been working on learning rhino as well. My previous designs started with drawings, then scale models, and I lofted from the models.
hey brotha , this is such an inspiration . two questions. could you have two 1000CC street bike engine in there or maybe cummins (inboard if designed differently. could that be adequate?) , and why is the head ( class angled down isnt that less aero dynamic and create more drag btw if you reply, support the comments it adds like a 40-60 % increase in long term viewership community . Hope this helps and hope the best!
I don’t think the street bike engines would last too well, but a Cummins would be sweet! I have one sitting in the shop for a boat build one day. Specmar has a design for a similar boat with a Cummins and an Arnson surface drive.
The reverse slope windscreens are quite popular out here. People like the way they look, and they are nice for fishing in the rain and also give a bit more interior space for radios etc.
Hey! There is a link to the designers website in the full description where you can find a study plan, or purchase the full plans. Good luck, and have fun building!
It seems to be normal to go to the next process after doing R.T and U.T after welding. However, there is no such process in this video. It seems that problems will arise later.
Forward leaning windshield reduces glare, which is why it seen so often on commercial vessels (also less likely to break for a wave coming over the bow). It also allows you to stand closer to the helm/dash with room in front of your face and added room for overhead electronics. Forward leaning windows absorb less heat, so the salt doesn't cake up as bad, allows the rain x to do its job.
man that workshop looks amazing with the forrest behind the windows give us a tour

The guy I built it for uses it for early season fishing, and it certainly is an excellent platform for it!

Great build man, where are you getting your windows and doors, I'm building a pilot house and having a heck of a time finding windows
They are from AJR Marine Windows in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia. Diamond Sea Glaze would be another outfit to try.
How much cheaper is it to build your own boat
Indonesian said.... Mantappppp
hey nice boat! how much time it took to build it on average ?
Wow! Awesome work! Been eyeing up the yellow point 23 myself. How big is your shop? About 12' ceilings?
Thanks! I’ve talked to a couple people recently about building a Yellow Point. That bay is 20x42, and I think it’s a 16’ ceiling. I also have a 20x25 bay where we had the materials
@@EM-hu2bj oh right on! That looks like a good size for that project
Terrific job, but, how long DID it take? 2 or 3 people?
Hey! Most of the time it was two of us, and it took about 320 hours :)
How much does material cost to build something like that?

Great video and what a ship! Do you sell the aluminium package as well? So you can weld it youself? Let me know! Cheers

How long does it take to complete from start to finish? Thanks
How long dose it take to build
Off hand I think this one was around 320 hours for me, most of it with a helper.
Hi
Do you have the thickness of the plates/bulkheads and stiffeners please ?
What class of aluminium you are using?
The plate is 5052 and 5086, and the extrusions are 6061
What welder do you use ? Thanks
Most of this one was built using a Lincoln 350MP with a Miller XRA push-pull. Cheers!
@@EM-hu2bj nice, Ta!
@@EM-hu2bj big money welding setup. push pull is so expensive
that's a sexy pilothouse design. You really made a tight looking craft. The rake on the house is perfect.
Do you have the plans for sale by any chance? and may i know how much for the pre cutting price?
Google Bruce cope aluminum boats. You can find the plans there
