Thanks for the kind comments on the space battle animation, I worked really hard on that :) Also regarding the Eclipse, we currently don't know much about the ship other than it's a Super Star Destroyer. Star Wars Explained this disappoints me how the empire were such cowards they should of continued to fight until death with out killing themselves. Personally I think if the empire wasn't this cowardly they would of one. What do you think of my opinion. Ps love ur vids
Disney really is copying Hitlers Gotterdammerung playbook here, he did not think Germany should survive after him and the Nazi Party, giving Albert Speer orders to scorch the earth and sabotage everything of use and then on the other side of things their have always been mysteries surrounding Germans escaping to Antarctica and South America.. the battle of Jakku is a kin to the desperate final fight for Berlin some soldiers giving up/breaking out and others committing suicide or suicidal attacks upon hearing of Hitlers death and their inevitable defeat.

this story deserves a movie. It will explain alot more what happened to the Emprie after ROTJ and the origins of the First Order, aswell as the new republic / Resistance. Not to mention what I think will be an amazing space battle on Jakku.
Loved the image of the tactics showing the Imperial and New Republic navy positions! I wish Star Wars could make more content focusing on military strategy and combat. Hopefully Inferno Squad can develop additional material.
Love the animated infographic of the space battle. Really helpful, but it begs a logic question unless I'm missing something. The graphic is 2D, so the line of star destroyers blocking the Republic ships works, but if we account for the real world third dimension, couldn't Republic ships attack from the "sides" via open space or from "under" by dipping into the atmosphere and striking the Ravager's belly? At least Scarif had the planetary shield to wave the logic away. Is there something missing that wasn't included in the video for brevity?
1) It's not a perfectly straight line. The animation merely gives the idea of what is happening. 2) The ships would be destroyed by the lateral cannons. Star Destroyers are not really meant to operate from top or bottom exclusively. The ship is designed as an anterior pyramid, with weapons facing forward towards a declining front. Attacking from the sides would allow closer to the majority of their firepower. When a Star Destroy engages via the top or bottom, they're cutting their available firepower by more than half, cutting out both ventral/dorsal and lateral turbolasers.
I'm assuming that's just a limitation of the 2D infographic and, in the battle, the Star Destroyers formed more of a dome shape around the Ravager, instead of just a line formation.
Maybe the ships formed a "dome" or "pyramid" around the super. Something with a oval shape at the type, like an umbrella over your head, giving the sipper sufficient protection.
7 years later and they're finally bridging the gaps for the movies in the form of comic series, smart move, easy on the budget and we get a connected cannon story 🙌
Textual evidence from the films still suggests he's Plagueis (formerly 'Darth' Plagueis, much as Maul is no longer 'Darth' Maul and Ahsoka is no longer a Jedi.)
In these books Palpatine feels a dark, immortal entity calling out to him. It's very likely that Snoke's character could be based on Vitiate, the ancient and immortal Sith Emperor.
I agree with you on Jar Jar and Mace...but not Plagueis. And here's why: The musical clues between the Plagueis opera scene and Snoke are not accidental. John Williams, unless he's gone senile in his advanced age, would not have composed essentially the same piece were there not a direct connection between the two. Darth Plagueis (in the novel, which, admittedly, is no longer fully canon, though parts of it are) could supposedly cheat death -- even at the novel's ending, Palpatine is still unsure of whether Plagueis is truly dead or not, and this haunts him. Palpatine Force-Lightning Plagueis, and Snoke's face definitely looks to have gone through some serious Force Lightning. Plagueis was also responsible for Shmi becoming impregnated by the midicholorians--making him, in a surrogate sense, Anakin's father and Luke and Leia's grandfather. One of the overarching themes of Star Wars is the killing of one's close family members, and Snoke very much wants to kill Luke. Not to simply turn him to the Dark Side, but to KILL him. Kylo Ren says of Snoke: "The Supreme Leader is Wise." This echoes what Palpatine said of Plagueis to Anakin, calling him "Dark Plagueis, The Wise." Under Lucas' writing, such dialogue could be taken as just an awkward Lucasism, but under JJ's talent for dialogue, there's something deeper there. " Moreover, consider the unorthodox style in which Snoke instructs Kylo Ren. He encourages Kylo to embrace both his Light AND his Dark sides, which was unusual for most practitioners of the Dark Side. Funnily enough, this is exactly how Palpatine seduces Anakin to the Dark Side. He says to Anakin: "If you wish to understand the Great Mystery, you must study ALL its aspects...." What he's saying here is that in order for Anakin to become a powerful Force user, he needs to learn both the Light and the Dark Sides. Whom do you think Palpatine learned this teaching from? His own master, Darth Plagueis. It's not coincidental that Plagueis and Snoke teach the same approach to the Force, an approach that is very unorthodox for Sith. Additionally, Darth Plagueis was an extremely tall individual. Snoke, we know, is also a very tall individual. Plagueis was not human; nor is Snoke human. Both are 'humanoid' and of impressive height, according to Wookiepedia. Furthermore, Snoke has no interest in resurrecting the Sith Order. Nor did Plagueis have any interest in continuing the Sith Order. To Plagueis, the Sith Order effectively ended with him, because he had (supposedly) achieved immortality. There were to be no more Sith. And finally--watch the TH-cam video of the kid asking Daisey Ridley, JJ Abrams, and Lawrence Kasden if Darth Plagueis is in the movie. You can clearly hear Daisey Ridley whisper 'Is he referring to...Sn--" and just at that moment, Abrams cuts her off. It was very awkward, and very obvious. These are such threads of textual evidence you can mull over. Cheers.
That would be very interesting too, but there's still so little we know about Vitiate. I'm all for keeping an open mind by trying to decipher the clues being given.
2:35 No, The Ravager wasn't the last Super Star-destroyer (unless I missed something), it may have been the last Super Star-Destroyer in the Empires possession, but the Annihilator was still out there in possession by the pirate he/she 'person' "Eleodie Maracavanya", who renamed the ship "Liberty's Misrule". It was a side-story in the third book, "Empire's End".
I just like how Star Wars is structured like an actual war. It isn't the simple "beat the enemy with heroics" we see in a lot of sci-fi. It is decades of bloodshed and demoralization that led to the fall of the empire. Not by one single hero, but by the contributions of the many. And the sacrifices of the brave.
So it's possible we might see The Eclipse again since it's name is now canon, it would be awesome to see it leading The First Order fleet in Star Wars The Last Jedi.
I thought that the Executor Class Star Dreadnought had shields so strong that it was almost impossible to penetrate. Also the Executor, I don't remember if this is canon, but didn't it have 5,000 turbolasers and ion cannons? If so, if the Imperial fleet kept formation, they could have decimated the New Republic fleet. Another thing I don't understand is the Mon-Calamari cruisers such as the MC-80. How in the world did they stand up to Imperator 2 Class Star Destroyers, I mean the Star Destroyers have Ocupul (sorry for the spelling) turbolaser batteries, which basically meant 64 heavy turbolaser batteries, and then all the rest of the weapons on it. The Mon Cal ships have I think 36 turbolasers and ion cannons. One more thing, great job on the space battle animation:)
So you're saying that whole time after that one Star Destroyer panicked, none of the others could do anything? And does the shield not protect the engines? I haven't read the book, so I'm honestly asking if it explains that.
a. Star Destroyers could defend against the New Republic, fleet, but only with the Ravager could they have a chance of destroying the NR ships. b. The Ravager's engines, weren't strategically relevant until the ship was tugged by the tractor beam, so they diverted sheild power elsewhere.
Every battle has always been convenient for the Republic. They always find a way to one up the Imperials or basically the Imperials are just incompetent.
Also one of those Star Destroyers that fell was captained by Ciena Ree who tried to intentionally prevent her ship from being boarded by crashing into the planet. (Lost Stars is my favorite canon book)
You live up to your name, VERY WELL EXPLAINED!!!!! Would you like to see a Battle of Jakku spin-off? It'd be good to bring ideas of the Contingency, origins of the First Order and Hux to a wider audience.
The Eclipse is cannon? Holy mother of god. Does it still have the super lazer? I would guess not, but just the fact that it's back made me giddy as a little kid watching a giant robot fight.
The next battlefront should have a story mode where you chose either the empire or the republic during the last days of the empire and fight at jakku and other places.
Holy crud, I love your videos so much! Me and my dad watch them together, and sometimes even my brother! We all love Star Wars and it's great how much time you put into your videos!
The Eclipse is Canon and still out there?!! I really hope they bring that into a movie. that would be great I think. First time I saw the Eclipse was in Star Wars forces of corruption.
The Empire is like a tree. Cut it's source which is it's root, the whole tree will die slowly. In this case, the fall of Palpatine means the fall of The Empire.
They could have just said that this is where the Empire made its last stand. The Empire kept its remaining forces at Jakku cos it was remote and somehow the Rebels found out and surprised attacked them, thus ending the Empire. Instead they came up with the most hackneyed explanation and got a D list author to write a book about it.
For all the people saying the Eclipse is cannon: The Eclipse is a super star destroyer or simply put, a star ship. A cannon is a thing that is usually stationary and fires projectiles at a target. Get your vocabulary fixed, nerds.
I believe the eclipse had a cannon in it. While the thing itself is cannon. Essentially it's a case of being specific. You talkin' bout the gun on it or if the ship actually existed.
I'm a bit disappointed that the New Republic never got to go against the Galactic Empire in one legitimate final triumphant showdown, seeing as how the Empire's chances of winning were effectively sabotaged.
The story of the empire being reborn in the unknown regions as the First Order under a new emperor (Snoke) seems very similar to the origin of the sith empire in the Old Republic, both occurring after a galactic war.
Wow...Show us that in a freakin movie! That was the one thing missing from Force Awakens an epic space battle. Why do they leave all the best bits for the books?
so it was a scorched earth kind of policy to cover thier tracks as they fled off to build a weapon that could destroy anyone, anywhere? that's actually kinda cool
and what happened when he boarded the emperors super star destroyer, did they flee to another galaxy or they looked for snoke and created the first order?
Thanks for the great video as always. The whole post Endor empire in the canon universe still doesn't make sense to me. We know from a New Hope that local Moffs were given basically complete control over their local star systems and the military forces within, basically the Empire was a semi-feudal state. Why then all the Moffs and Admirals who presumably weren't all complete idiots choose to follow an obviously suicidal plan rather then continue to rule their own petty kingdoms is beyond me. Even the obvious historical parallel between Sidious ordering the Empire destroyed and Hitler's " Nero Decree" makes me irritated because no one actually carried out that order and many high ranking Nazi's actively countermand it. I mean I know they had to essentially reset the universe for TFA and having to much intervening history between the two would cause to much confusion but that's why I still prefer the way Legends handled the post ROTJ course of events.
Well he got what remained of the empire back together. It could be that Moffs simply splintered into their own factions. Others would probably would have been assassinated by those close to them. Some Moffs and the assassins of others probably saw the writing on the wall and wanted to surrender to the new republic on good terms rather than lose everything. Finally we have to remember that many Moffs would have been fanatics so disobeying the wishes of their emperor even after death would have been out of the question. At least that's my theory. The fall of the empire reminds me quite a bit of the fall or Rome and Alexander's empire. Perhaps with a few other influences.
fremenchips Legends just makes far more sense then canon. At times it feels like they aren't even trying with post-Endor canon. I feel there was a decision made by Disney that they wanted the Empire gone as quickly as possible because in their minds an Empire can't last the death of their leader, even if that's almost never been the case for massive empires.
JoeHooker11 We say Disney but this is probably a Lucas Film thing. I wouldn't be surprised if Lucas himself wanted it so as to put distance between his films and theirs.
The Moffs went along with it because they didn't know the plan was supposed to fail. Rax led them to believe that this was their finest house. The ultimate counter attack. Instead it was purposely constructed to purge the weak and leave only the Strong to rebuild the Empire.
fremenchips They didn't know the plan was to destroy everything, Gallius Rax manipulated them into thinking it was gonna be their resurgence and they'd beat the New Republic and take back the galaxy but the real plan was to destroy the Empire and the New Republic fleets and their soldiers at the same time
JJ Abrams got lucky as hell with Operation Cinder and the Jakku laboratory because it actually makes sense for Palpatine to return somehow, although it makes 0 sense in the context of the sequel trilogy, in all of continuity of Star Wars canon it does make sense
damn your so cringe especially with excusing jj abrams of making operation cinder lol like that wasn't him dumbass. I kninda think its funny you try say hey it dosen't working the sequel trilogy because oh its not what you wanted excuse also trying say it was never set up in the sequels is very laughable. don't use doft since its probably mostly false expect for what the director has said which isn't much.
I still think it would have been more realistic if it wasn't the whole "last stand". I for one don't think in a year they could have acquired enough ships to last them months against the empire's full force. 500 million storm troopers, 25000 Star destroyers+ support and warships, 500000 at ats. even if these got extremely depleted , they should still be mass manufacturing backup for the finale
Thanks for the kind comments on the space battle animation, I worked really hard on that :)

Palpatine: I AM

this story deserves a movie. It will explain alot more what happened to the Emprie after ROTJ and the origins of the First Order, aswell as the new republic / Resistance. Not to mention what I think will be an amazing space battle on Jakku.
It ends with somehow
2:40 - 3:48 is easily the best part of the video it was awesome
That animated reenactment sounds like an epic battle that TOTALLY should be a movie.
My kids got me Empire's End while I was in the hospital,. I loved it.
Loved the image of the tactics showing the Imperial and New Republic navy positions! I wish Star Wars could make more content focusing on military strategy and combat. Hopefully Inferno Squad can develop additional material.
docvideo93 yeah agreed
This makes no sense, even from an "If I go, you go with me" standpoint. This plan is stupid.
It's Disney Wars. What do you expect?
Palpatine's original plan was just "Destroy everything else If I die" the "Make a new Empire in the Unknown Regions" was Gallius Rax's personal idea.
@@ufukcangencoglu2279 well. I think this is basically episode IX
@@williamprice2186 it's not always Disneys fault
Emperor Sheev Palpatine is pity man
Roses are Red...
"She decided to board the ship, and start the Empire anew...
Now you know what really happened at the battle of Jakku."
Can we have a episode of the tragedy of darth plageus the wise?
I loved how you actually showed the space battle. :)
So cool that you get to play through this in battlefront 2!!
I will love if they make a movie on the battle, showing the true nature of war, both sides fighting savagely, ships falling from the sky.
Brick Something great observation, maybe the book has an explanation of that.
Simple: the screen is shaped like a dome.
7 years later and they're finally bridging the gaps for the movies in the form of comic series, smart move, easy on the budget and we get a connected cannon story 🙌
I love the animation sequence!
That visual star destroyer diagram was some top notch stuff. 10/10
So much for Snoke being Gallius Rax. Ha!
And here's why:
The musical clues between the Plagueis opera scene and Snoke are not accidental.
"
Moreover, consider the unorthodox style in which Snoke instructs Kylo Ren.
As SWTOR proves, vitiate isn't immortal, just really REALLY hard to kill. Permanently that is
I just want to see the Eclipse in action. That ship is just a beast.
Great job illustrating the battle above Jammu 😄👍
Its so cool to know how that super star destroyer we see in Battlefront got taken down.
Lol nope
2:41 Love that diagram (ish) thing! Awesome video!
Star Destroyer Eclipse in canon is a just an average star dreadnaught. No superlaser or impenetrable shields.
It disabled the engines of the star hawk and was unharmed. How were they to know that the starhawk had better tractor beams
Plot armor you know.
I’m so glad to know that the Eclipse is now canon, again.
It was always my favourite, most menacing destroyer.
They always find a way to one up the Imperials or basically the Imperials are just incompetent.
the way this ties in to the scenery of graveyard of the Giants is so cool
Soo the eclipse is canon now ?
Laci Entertaintment
Not the insane crazy one that was all black etc. It's a super star destroyer ...
Well the insane black one is per definition a superstardestroyer.
Just not of the executor-class.
Suprised Snoke ent usin it as his personal flagship instead of the one that was revealed recently
Battlefront II should've done just that
Awesome explanation and animation of what happened.
Might have to pick up the book now!
Best video yet! More full stories and battle animations please!
The Eclipse is cannon? Holy mother of god. Does it still have the super lazer? I would guess not, but just the fact that it's back made me giddy as a little kid watching a giant robot fight.
No, it's just a Super Star Destroyer that has the same name in Canon.
The next battlefront should have a story mode where you chose either the empire or the republic during the last days of the empire and fight at jakku and other places.
Or just make a whole different game like that
I see, so Palpatine is "that guy" in tabletop who rageflips the table after losing a game .
no he just basically up and leaves and comes back with more power but i see what you mean
Listening to Empire's End now! Thank you Star Wars Explained! the video was awesome!
0:46 chess is actually one of the names that the game goes by it said so in Empire's end
That space battle animation was FIRE!!!
Do you think that the Empire's fate was sealed at Endor or Jakku?
Hunterworld It started at Endor.
Hunterworld once the Emperor died the Empire was doomed. It was Rax's job to make sure.
The Empire is like a tree. Cut it's source which is it's root, the whole tree will die slowly. In this case, the fall of Palpatine means the fall of The Empire.
They should of taken hydra's motto "Cut off one head, two more shall take it place" lol
Nah, The Emperor is too proud to let anyone but himself control the Empire.
Dude this was one of your best videos. Thanks for the awesome diagrams and backgrounds! bravo
They could have just said that this is where the Empire made its last stand. The Empire kept its remaining forces at Jakku cos it was remote and somehow the Rebels found out and surprised attacked them, thus ending the Empire. Instead they came up with the most hackneyed explanation and got a D list author to write a book about it.
that space battle would have been so great on the big screen
For all the people saying the Eclipse is cannon:
The Eclipse is a super star destroyer or simply put, a star ship. A cannon is a thing that is usually stationary and fires projectiles at a target. Get your vocabulary fixed, nerds.
But they’re asking if it’s canon not cannon so what you said doesn’t make sense
That's what the Eclipse Cannon is - th-cam.com/video/xBrSV-SarPE/w-d-xo.html
I believe the eclipse had a cannon in it. While the thing itself is cannon. Essentially it's a case of being specific. You talkin' bout the gun on it or if the ship actually existed.
Great job on the graphics. One of your best videos here.
sollabe The books lost stars, and Asoka are really good.
So if Vader were alive and Palpatine died, would Palpatine still do Operation: Cinder or no? After all Rule of Two.
Eternal Sentry it would split.
I'm a bit disappointed that the New Republic never got to go against the Galactic Empire in one legitimate final triumphant showdown, seeing as how the Empire's chances of winning were effectively sabotaged.
It explains this and you can play it in swbf 2 in story mode
amazing! great animation and epic story. I think this alone could be a movie...
The story of the empire being reborn in the unknown regions as the First Order under a new emperor (Snoke) seems very similar to the origin of the sith empire in the Old Republic, both occurring after a galactic war.
But that sith empire was far cooler
I loved your break down of the story.
I love the Aftermath trilogy, Chuck Wendig is a great writer.
Wow, just wow. That space animation was stunning, brilliantly made. Congratulations new sub here! ✌️
Just imagine how cool would this battle be in a movie. Rogue One had one of the best battles in the Star Wars movies. But this has great potential
EXCELLENT GRAPHICS!! THANK YOU!!!
Wow...Show us that in a freakin movie! That was the one thing missing from Force Awakens an epic space battle. Why do they leave all the best bits for the books?
Wow, excellent excellent video today. Great work on the battle diagram.
I'm fairly certain that no matter how powerful the tractor beam was, you can't drag a 17 km long superstar destroyer down with you.
Plot power dude it was powered by plot power not even the force can stop that
It’s engines were all knocked out
so it was a scorched earth kind of policy to cover thier tracks as they fled off to build a weapon that could destroy anyone, anywhere?
that's actually kinda cool
and what happened when he boarded the emperors super star destroyer, did they flee to another galaxy or they looked for snoke and created the first order?
Dafok... That book should be made into a movie.
"The Eclipse is canon again!" the only thing anyone got out of this vid ;)
A regular executor sadly
3:50 if that's not the most badass thing I've EVER heard
Instead it was purposely constructed to purge the weak and leave only the Strong to rebuild the Empire.
fremenchips They didn't know the plan was to destroy everything, Gallius Rax manipulated them into thinking it was gonna be their resurgence and they'd beat the New Republic and take back the galaxy but the real plan was to destroy the Empire and the New Republic fleets and their soldiers at the same time
that animation was perfect
Will there be a '50 Facts from Empire's End' video this week?
excellent retelling and animations

very interesting i loved the analysis of the space battle with the diagrams of the ships
Great animation for the space battle, really helped me understand the tactics.
Are those numbers canon?
Super Fry as cannon as possible. If I wanted to get logical then millions of ships, and billions of stormtroopers
Yeah I'd guess it is kind of illogical. Perhaps we will get more and more explanations as the new canon develops.
MyDuck IsOnQauck the empire intentionally killed itself at jakku in a way
Thanks for filling in the gap
THE ECLIPSE IS CANNON BOIS!!!
