Really found the value of your 2nd point when I retired 2 years ago. Could have stayed a few more years at an increasingly stressful job and got a larger pension, but I weighed the benefit to my health and time and decided I had enough to live comfortably, but not extravagantly. I am so happy that I did, I have time to play and teach guitar, practice Aikido, kayak, and just enjoy life. Time and health are often undervalued in our heavily commercial society.
Hello from Cincinnati, Ohio. One of the best things about the internet is I can benefit from your wisdom from half way around the world. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
i'm working on financial independence and being free from wage slavery. i am the rebellious type, as you described, and will be happy doing the unexpected.
Interesting video. I'm pondering these same things right now as retirement looms. What am I going to do with my time? Will I miss the parts of the day job that I liked? Etc, etc...
(1) Life wise men of old would say is a course in problem solving. Without problems it would be meaningless. (2) A jewish friend of mine says 'time is money'. I always trust jewish wisdom related to money. (3) Your corporate experiences will certainly help you with whatever you do now. Understanding marketing and finance is something that very few artists have in their skill set. (4) Being an engineer, a business consultant and a music maniac myself I, like you, have sometimes felt like having a split personality. Philosophy and clearing free time for yourself helps alot. It will give you balance and help you make wise lifestyle decisions regardless of what society believes. (5) You can always make a living, once you've made well planned decisions and you act rationally. Go on with your musical endeavours. (PS. Buy less guitars 😃)

Makes a lot of sense. Thank you for sharing
You have reminded me that the first step toward happyness is to know yourself. The second part is accepting the compromises based on that!

I agree. This is one of the great things about the internet. Wonderful to hear from you. Sadly never got a chance to visit Cincinnati while with P&G
A target or deadline need not a bad thing. Yet where I worked targets and deadlines were impossible. Managers with burn out one after another....
Agree
