- TH-camr Ankush Bahuguna revealed his experience of falling victim to a digital arrest scam, raising alarms about the rising prevalence of such scams.

It couldn’t have been easy for Ankush to go public with this - it’s quite embarrassing to admit you’ve fallen prey to a scam. But it just goes to show how it can happen to ANYONE no matter how vigilant you are or what profession you’re in. I’m glad he’s sparked a conversation about this and created awareness, it’s unfortunate that some people are trying to victim blame and discredit him. It would also make it harder for others to speak up fearing public ridicule.
Thank you so much for this comment! You're right, he's so brave for sharing it with everyone and the last thing he needs right now is to be ridiculed or shamed. Yes, there's lot of awareness around such spam calls, but, sometimes, you can't tell what's real or fake these days. He's not the first one being scammed and unfortunately, neither the last. More power to him for bringing it up and I hope he'll get back on track soon 🤞
Abe fake hai ye sab... Sab natak baazi hai .. Koi digital arrest nehi hua hai, saale ko publicity chahiye tha.
You are very brave to share this good sir ❤
Social media made y'all way too comfortable that you can make fun of someones problem these generation needs a reality check for real

If we start judging people who were targeted they will stop reporting and coming forward. Thats how these scammers win. It can happen to anybody.
Yes exactly. Be empathetic towards the other people instead of mocking him. He might not know everything. It happens.

Listen to whomsoever reading this. IF a cop is calling you tell them it’s fine you will deal with the problem in person and end it there. Do not engage. ANY CALL ASKING FOR ANY DETAIL CUT THE CALL AND NO CONVERSATION. The police will ALWAYS catch you in person. Always.
Tell them I will talk to my lawyer whether it’s a scam or even in real situations. Why engage with police without lawyer?
I don't understand how can you judge someone by not knowing a particular news. like bro chill, after all that has happened he had the courage to record and spread awareness about the damn situation.
He doesn't need the courage, he records himself all the time. And he knows he will get clicks and likes.
Bhai judge waali baat nai hai. Fake news aur genuine news ko parkho. Bewakoof mat bano
No I mean you don't watch important news tho you're active and online 24/7 wtf is he even consuming.. even ashish talked about this before I mean you have so much time scrolling and stuff but avoid all the important things huh?

@@ryangreen45 why always twisted mind
Now I feel being introvert is a blessing! I never answer any knowing calls let alone scammers and unknown numbers
wow😂
Yeah same...never answered any unknown call
Same here
I am too lazy to pick up my relatives calls
I straightaway cut any unknown call sometimes I also put down calls from delivery persons after an hour I remember omg I have placed online order
Then I go back to call those numbers again and they don't connect
True. And no chance i'm going to attend a whatsapp video call even if it's from my best friend. Scammers have no options.
Same here , but once I actually missed a real delivery guy call 😂😂
We also got calls from numbers starting +92, +1, +87 etc. and we consciously disconnected those calls. We also added them to a block list right away. Thank you for sharing what they were about!
Yes and never press any digit.. Or it will get your all online banking details in a sec
Exactly 2 weeks ago i got a call stating the same thing. I recently sent my ielts score reporting via courier service to american universities and recieved this call within the same week. So, i was wondering maybe there was some mistake and called the customer support. The moment he said illegal drugs in my package and asked me to come to mumbai police, I got a nice laugh and even he knew he fucked up a bit with asking me to come to mumbai police station while i am staying in delhi. Additionally he even asks me a question like 'Do you know someone with the name of Masood Ahmed?'' to convince me that my aadhar details were used by some terrorist group. Later he cut the call immediately as soon as he heard me laughing. I was lucky I didn't get convinced. Imagine someone who uses a courier service for some purpose and gets sold with the same story, there's high chance people could fall for such scams.
@surajrao9729 hi pal.. I just want to know.. In between these calls.. Is your mobile plan validity about to expire..
I was getting calls from such numbers daily for around 2 weeks and they call during afternoon and most of the times Truecaller shows caller location as East Timor, Pakistan with country code 92 and United arab emirates
and I can't tell you how many times I resisted myself to not pick that call .. As they keep calling me, I know its a scammer calling but that chull ki utha ke dekhte hai kya hota hai... Yahi sab chalta tha jab bhi wo call karte the
I know right same , poorly are defaming only India is this issue
U don’t know how many times I got numbers from +92( Pakistan ) and +1 ( America , Canada ) and even South Africa ( +87)
I'm jealous of how many good friends he has.

I received a call too. And I had to press zero because I was expecting a parcel from the UK but the scammer told me there were drugs in the parcel I was sending to China that’s where I caught the lie. I told him I’ll lodge a complaint against him blah blah blah and cut the call. Thank God, I didn’t fall victim. Take care guys and be vigilant. Much love and strength to Ankush.
I always used to think how do people fall for such scams, but after listening to this story, I get it.
They are so good at convincing you even though you know it is a scam.
I think those who have been doing anything wrong in their past, they easily fell into these types of scams.... I got these types of calls frequently for the last couple of months.. We found you have unusual calls international😂😂😂😂.. We tend to cut out your connection in 2 days.. Talk to these nos.. All calls are coming from+1 no.. 😅.. I simply decline now I don't pick these types of calls.. Trai also sends msg, never accepts calls other than +91... . Even watsapp calls also.. They said you have a parcel come to the custom office.. I said aap hi rakh lo.. Jo case banega ghar par send kar dena.... 😅
True! Also, the situation and how vulnerable we are when they call us could also be reasons. I know some friends who have great technical knowledge but they too have almost fallen for scammers, because those scammers contacted them when they were not at the right place or time.
@@OopsIDidItAgainUh yeah, true!!

It's very easy to catch them you just don't have to panic and use your common sense. +1 code is from US itself and that's the first red flag. Scammers use fake numbers that are untraceable for the first contact.
I lost Rs 25,000, including my phone which I sold for around 5 to 6k, in a fake Airtel job scam. It was a huge amount for my family. Recently, this digital arrest scammer called my sister; they somehow know some information, but I was aware, so we were saved. This is a huge, rising problem in India; the government needs to counter it.
I opened the comment box for seeing some kind words for him, end up being shocked to see such cruel words to him.
He is a youtuber and doesn't know everything. As he mentioned, you never know to how much extent these scammers can go. Also it takes a lot of guts to come up and point out own mistake and raising awareness among others. He seems genuinely shaking and traumatized to me.
As a society, we have to be empathetic. Vaise toh hum bolte hai that dunia is becoming cruel day by day koi dusro ki madad nahi karta, ab ye banda kuch warning de raha hai on a good note, usme bhi all of these people are finding faults.

My sister went to our hometown to attend a seminar. While she was busy with this, my dad receives such a call. They said stuff like your daughter has been arrested for using drugs and her whole life is ruined now. They wont let us hear her voice to give some sort of confirmation and my sister won't pick up her phone. Told my father to come to this sus place with a sum lot of money and then they will sort the things. At this point my dad was desperate so he would have gone to that place if my mom didnt reach out to my other sister. She handled my parents maturely and at the end of the day it infact was a fraud call and my sister was fine.
Okay people. This is informative. Know your rights. Police can't talk like that. They need warrant. Please sab basic laws padho. Apne rights padho.
Bhai sacmmer ko right apne bhai

Ye sab bolna asan hai. Scammers are way ahead of us. Just need to be updated with every news.
The problem itself stems from history of police atrocities on public from colonial time, till to this day. Its high time people know their rights
When these things actually happen, they knowingly put us under panic to avoid our rational thinking.
My uncle was called that your son is under arrest for drug use. They did create a sound of crying boy which sounded exactly like his son and asked him for bribe if he wants his son free from this case or he will be in jail for long time.
I did hear that call and it felt sooo convincing that it's scary. Thankgif he called his son's number and he picked up
Same thing happened to my wife. She was terrified. She told me after 12 hours of torture. Glad she told. This was the exact situation. We lodged a complaint the next day to cyber police online.
That must have been traumatic. hope your wife is doing okay now.. thanks for sharing it

this was attempted on me as well, i was like which package, I have sent several of those...😂 he told asked me to verify my Aadhar, I was like okay tell me the number I will confirm my details... he wasted one hour, but am a naturally quiet person, and they got one hour of pin drop silence... he was like "I will call you back"😅

This Comment section is filthy with people who think they are so infallible. My friend was just on the verge of getting duped because the scammer was brainwashing her so much. They really feed on your fears. Sometimes your bad luck kicks in and he's sharing his story, it takes courage !
TH-cam is slowly turning into Instagram!
People are sharing their stories not to show they are infallible but because we related to it and to tell them that we we also called so don't be afraid to report such calls to cyber security. Don't always have a negative mindset.
@moonman5319 my comment is clearly focused on people mocking his mistake not for the other ones who are sharing their genuine stories, no need to make it about everyone. Many people have pointed out the same , check and understand the context before reacting
But why fear a stranger on a call so much?
These so called people are gullible and gawaar. That's why learning basics is so necessary.
He gave the much needed message: One should know what's happening around you. Its important to watch news. And immediately disconnect any such suspected scam calls.

Seeing these comments just makes me realise how hopeless India is as a country. Not because of the government, or corruption, or even the crimes. It's because of the people. To whoever reading this, if you don't want to live in a country where you fear for your safety, dignity or rights as a human being, please don't propagate this kind of behavior of always saying the worst you can of any person you come across just because you can.

It's not just Indian people. You can see these type of people from any country. Why automatically blaming Indians for everything?
@Breathinbreathout-ov4lo Because Indians just do this more. Search up a similar video of someone from another country, there may be similar comments, but the magnitude won't be the same. Here every 8 out of 10 comment is bashing him. Also I'm indian, ofc I'll focus more on my own country.

There are so many comments criticizing this TH-camr for narrating this. If we criticize people instead of encouraging them to share their experiences, how will we all learn?
Such criticism will only discourage genuine sufferers from sharing their experience with us.
So don't be stupid. Encourage people who share
[Edit]
Even if this is a publicity stunt, criticizing him will only discourage people who genuinely suffer. They will not think whether this is a publicity stunt or genuine. They will only remember the mockery and criticism that this he faced. And so, the genuine sufferers will not readily come out with their problems.
Bro, I am the least aware person on the earth about all the latest scams
Yet when I got a similar scam call during office
My immediate answer was "thek hai rakhlo wo parcel apne pas, I don't want it"
Cause I know I haven't sent anything
This guy might have done a publicity stunt
I agree that those who get scammed should share about their experience so that the rest of the world knows the lengths to which scammers can go and the various ways that they can scam you
But I also see why people are criticising this guy 😐 right from the start it seemed like such an obvious scam and so that's why everyone is wondering that how despite being a young millennial (who should be more knowledgeable on scams) he fell for it? I understand if an elderly person who is not so much into the Internet and who may find it much more challenging to differentiate between scams and reality may fall for it but im sure we can agree that we expected more from a young influencer. Like if someone told me (an 18 year old) that I have sent a parcel to China with illegal drugs in it ill just immediately cut the call and go back to doing wtv I was doing because I am fully aware that I have done no such thing.. so why should I be afraid? And I mean.. dude just cut the freaking call at any time they can't do anything to u..
A few days ago, I got a call from the "army" asking me to report to a specific camp for "training".. did I freak out? Did I pack my bags and actually go there?? No right? That's cos I know that the army has nothing to do with me so there's no reason to be afraid. I just cut the call.. and so the fact that this guy actually stayed on a call for 40 hours and was on a made up lockdown for that amount of time it's just honestly disappointing.. like I don't get it was it not obvious that u just cut the call and they are gone?
I feel sorry for him and I do feel sad that he lost a lot of money and his mental health suffered but he could have avoided this whole thing with the press of a button and he just played along 😔 very unfortunate abd unexpected from this guy..
Clearly publicity stunt

People calling him a victim and accusing others of victim-blaming need to ask what he’s even doing online 24/7. If you’re so busy making and consuming niche content that you’re unaware of scams or what’s happening in the world, it’s on you. These creators are quick to back each other or actors over trivial issues but stay clueless about real problems like scams. Sorry, but only uninformed people fall for this; smart people don’t. And other creators are defending him, saying people are victim-blaming and praising his ‘courage’ for making a video. But even others who went through this have made similar videos to warn people and spread awareness not for praise. Praising someone for falling for something so avoidable is just ridiculous.
Exactly. These people are aware of each other's beef and all relationship stuff but are unaware of crimes and news. Remember a girl who made a video on a kolkata case while she was getting ready and doing makeup? These kinds of aura influencers have. They just want to make content about everything. Even brut has made videos of this scam, the government has caller tone yet these people are so dumb. Its completely their stupidity and their fellow content creators backing them up are stupid too. Even I got call about refund scam and that person knew details about me and my dad, yet i was able to make out that this is a scam easily! Common sense and being informed is enough to understand whether it is real or fake. Plus people are literally sharing experiences and talking about it and still you are unaware is shameful.
Oh god similar thing happened with my father ....once he got a call n caller asked him that r u the father of ( my name) . My father responded 'yes'. Then he said ur daughter has been caught with drugs n she is under arrest .

Same happened with my father last year and I was also in hostel,my mum immediately called me after the fake call to make sure m doing fine or not.
same they called my father luckily he had just dropped me off to college 10 mins ago they were like your daughter has been arrested with boys and all my father turned it on them and was like i'm from cyber crime branch and your call is being recorded lol they were very fast to cut the call then
Ur father is very wise but since u were not staying in home and were away from him, he had a good reason to be anxious
Scammer should have used other words like daru sharu..pubs..hookah nightouts .. becoz these are common is hostels of delhi be it boys or girls. College ka raaj khul jata
Something not similar to this, but had happened to me. One day I was at home with my family, my father got a call from a stranger who was trying to convince my father that I got into an accident and the stranger was calling my father to reach at some spot. The Stranger didn't know my name. That moment obviously I was at home infront of my father. My father said to that person that my daughter is just in front of me, and he got panicked and suddenly disconnected the call. Such incidents are seriously happening everywhere now a days. Whenever you get any call from a stranger, either don't pick up and block the number or if supposedly you have picked it up, be calm and at peace while conversing with those people, because you can seriously fall into their convincing words and risk your life.
Be Safe and Be Healthy Everyone ❤

I had this happen to me. Exact sequence of events too. During the call with the "support agent" he offered to get me connected to the "police station" to flag down my package. That's what stood out to me, I asked him for my delivery code and he could not provide it to me over call. Told me that he'd send it over email ASAP and that's the last I heard from him.

It is not difficult to cut the call if it's surely fake. But it is difficult to disconnect it if it feels real.
You are seriously a responsible citizen, most of us feel shame to share if get scammed . Just take care of yourself and mental health ❤️
How can educated people fall for these scams? It's important to cut off such calls, take screenshots, and report them to the police. It’s frustrating! Why would I press '0' for an update when we receive messages and emails for everything? There is no scope of sympathy etc, you are educated, young, travelling the world, aware of daily affairs, be intelligent. Ankush is a social media Influence, he should know these things. And yes, ''read news and not Bollywood mirch-masala''.
Grand realisation of how current affairs and reading newspaper is important.
thoda el nino, la nina hume bhi padha do
He's that guy who becomes Papa of the girl who leaves her phone unlocked, bro literally behaved liked Indian papa and lost money.
😂😂👍👍
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
God, i hope he's okay now. I can't imagine how traumatic this must have been.
He had money so he got scammed, after seeing his condition my mind to myself " tu tension mt le, ham pe to hai hi no" 😂😂🤣
Wohi toh 😅....lootne ke liye maal bhi toh hona chahiye 😅
😂😂
This is very traumatic I can’t believe people are making fun of him
OK so this is my story. Ak baar ak call aaya aur mai abhi kafi young hu and student hu but I have a presence of mind to maine call uthaya usne mera naam liya to Maine bol ha mai hi hu then usne bola vo prayagraj se police commissioner bol raha hai aur mere khilaf ak mukadma bhi ho gaya hai vo bhi high court me Maine uske muh pe has diya to vo chid gaya aur maine bola ki kya police commissioner etne nalle baithe hai aur ye kahke aur has ke phone rakh diya aur block kar diya 😂😂.
😂😂😂
Kash police bola hota. Sari hasi ruk jati😂.
@@cryptoboi9584 police bhi bola hota Tab bhi yahi karti because I have a habit of blocking strangers if I don't know them. 😂
If Ankush could fall for something like this I can't😭😭😭💔 like normal people could get trapped in seconds
Publicity stunt... I can't believe that in spite of so much awareness about this issue people are still falling for this scam...
lmao how can you be so dum*?
Itna detail mei koi kaise btata h... jo Victim hota h.. usko hi pta hoga...
Totally agree and it worked, i did not even knew who he was till this Brut video now i know. I am not saying it did not happen it did and he was well aware and he used as setup for this future PR.
Exactly, especially this influencer whose whole life revolves around the internet and social media.
this is psychologically draining, trust me, people actually fall in trouble.
I also got a call like this one month back but thankfully I just hanged up. So proud that you shared this incident on a platform
If I get such calls I immediately understand it’s a scam… not sure how someone took it for 40 hours 😂😂😂😂
everyone is different* !!
My goodness, it's a threat not only for the gullible, but even a street smart. My sister who's so vigilant, also fell for something similar.
even I received an international call and it was an automated call , they told me my number was a part of illegal activity and it would shutdown in just 2 hour and i was asked to press 8 to know the details . I thankfully did not press it but I was in dilemma whether i should press or not because i was scared . I'm just 18 and I knew that I haven't indulge in any kind of the mentioned activity but still I was scared enough to click the no. . It have dodged a huge bullet . Hope anyone seeing this will be cautious about these scammers
Kudos to you!!! It takes a lot to speak about it some PPL don't do it coz of embarrassment and truly u were brave enough to get out . God bless u
Same happened to me.Don’t want to recall the trauma i went through. I was a fool to cooperate with them for two hours and don’t know how i took a chance and went to my local police station being on video call with them, the moment the fake police saw the police station the call was cut to my relief.
This has been all over for more than 6 months and yet someone calls for it and that too some one who is very social. It's really sad.
Prope and technical knowledge should be developed more even in urban and rural areas where these online harmness continues..
Just share this to all the family groups to create awareness. Even young people fall victim to the these scams, so old people can become easy targets.
Much strength to you , hope you heal from it soon !! Nobody should have to go through this type of shit , thank you for stepping forward and sharing your story, you did the right thing by sharing it as many people are still not aware of it , i myself wasn't, until i came across your story . Much strength and support to you and thank you for spreading awareness.
He’s a famous content creator and if this is happening to famous people it can happen to you as well. Please be careful, don’t pick the call up even if ur like ‘let me prank them’ or something. Don’t take any risks, don’t pick the calls up from any unknown number especially from other countries.
The fact that he fell for it, maybe he has been doing fishy things and scared of being caught at this point 😂😂😂
Yeah.. makes sense then!!
Yeah that's what I was thinking 😂
Like why would you be so scared of police if you haven't done something wrong?😅
Exactly my point. I have received many calls like these & just never entertain & disconnect the call, because I know I have not done anything. It's pathetic that why this man is using such a serious issue in form of clout. So sad.
It's really brave of him to accept that he fell for these losers. Reminds me of last week when I abused "an inspector" right and left , when he was coming to arrest me. What losers.
Even after so many awareness news and videos spread across the country, still you haven't thought of disconnecting the call.....
This is exactly what happened with me. Was held hostage for 5 hours and then realised it was a scam and hence escaped. It’s shitty but it’s true.
Thanks to wagle ki duniya♥️
They actually informed people about thus scam by there digital arrest scam episode and not just with this they also spreads a lots of awareness regarding various issues
Feels very lucky to be the audience of wagle ki duniya😄
I too faced exactly the same thing. I was under the digital arrest scam for 20 hours. It was mentally breaking. I was on the video call overnight. I was under so much stress. With God's grace, I didn't transfer the amount. But still after disconnecting the call, I felt worst. I went to report it in a police station but there police said that since no money was lost no need to lodge a complaint.
But the torture the scammers did verbally, I would never forget. It felt so so bad.
Don't know why it seems like a PR stunt. He isn't living in some tier 2,3 city or village that he is still unaware of these scams going around since some time? Anyway, if he has undergone through this trauma, may he recover soon and may all of us stay super alert.
This is really sm pr stunt, any of the comments under the video can't prove that. My friends too hv recived a few calls
I got a call like this about two months back. I instantly realised it was a scam call. I coolly listened to him, took down all the fake info. he gave me. Then I started asking him many questions without showing any fear in my voice. When he realised that he's talking to someone who's not scared, he himself disconnected the call. Just chill people when you know you haven't done anything illegal.
