That was fun,,, I'm in Canada and have worked in fire alarm, among other things, for over 20 years. Retired now. We always had 2 people (and walkie talkies) in all system tests. We did a lot of Government work, hospitals, senior homes and jails.
I discovered you yesterday and I love your channel. You are doing the work I always wanted to do since I was a kid, but couldn't afford college and no one locally wanted an apprentice. You are doing a great job anyway, but to record your work on video so professionally is even better! Thanks for your uploads, I have now subscribed

I do like a twin flex pro panel. Part 1 & 6 this conforms too for a sav wire. Very intelligent for what it is. It's nice to see no resistors in the non used terminals. I see a lot of electricians put EOL resistors in non used terminals and this causes them to over heat. This panel you can switch off unused terminals. Very neat 👍🏻

This is quite fascinating seeing the differences between testing there and here. We do not have a weekly test but we do have monthlies that serve the same purpose.
Sounds like you should get looking for an apprentice mate. I've heard you mention it a couple times now. Probably should look into it, would make for good videos! Keep it up mate. Informational and entertaining, lovely to see others take pride in their work :)

I used to work for a very well-known grocery delivery company who are extremely popular in central London. As it was the nature of our job to be constantly unloading, our training put strong emphasis on loading rules in the city. You are permitted to stop for loading (includes unloading too of course) for 20 minutes on double yellow lines, AND in on-street Pay and Display parking spaces. You are also allowed to double-park alongside on-street parking bays so long as there is at least one free lane for trafffic to move around you. Exceptions to these loading rules are: - Not on Zig Zag markings, on any pedestrian crossing - Not blocking any dropped kerb - Not within 10 meters of a junction - Not where double yellow lines run down the kerb (no loading at any time) - Not in an area of restricted loading - these are marked by a single yellow kerb marking, and the times are shown on signs on the kerbside. - Not where the local council has suspended parking or loading. It's not exhaustive but it might save you hauling half a dozen heavy fire extinguishers along a main road in the city!

I wish my school had that logic link system as it is common for the alarm to go off when a teacher uses a toaster. In my years at the school we have had more alarms from food than drills
Great content again. If you want to save legs n stuff you could carry a can of compressed air and blow it to alarms after the alarm has started. It wont retrigger the alarm that way. Also you can set the panel to walkmode or testmode, not sure whats it called so you dont need to go back to panel after all invidual buttons and censors. Just check the log that they all sent the alarm to panel

Had a fire safety inspector come into my work last week. Found one of our emergency light failed. I Checked it two weeks ago and it worked. I Found the logic board failed so had to replace with a whole new from old standard emergency light to LED emergency light. I did it all by myself yesterday. Now we’ll pass fire safety inspection when the fire safety inspector comes in again this week

You should do subsequent alarms so you don’t have to run up and down the stairs to reset. Just write down or remember the order you set off the alarms. I do Reg. 4 testing for Los Angeles county and sometimes I have to do it alone.

Keep up the good work man. Just a little note - wouldn't it be easier to use the Walk Test mode so when you finish testing a call point the alarm silenced itself? That would stop you needing to keep going back to the panel
Just Thought I would mention it to you as it would save you a lot of hassle. I would invest in an Apollo test kit. It has extension poles and makes life a lot easier testing Thomas.
i know mate; they are lovely kits but pricey. i only test about three or four alarms a year so it just seems a lot of cash for minimal use i see what i mean? im doing another fire alarm course in January so i may end up investing in it then as the poles also makes life alot quicker too ;-)
The ontario fire marshal here in Kingston ontario canada will leave a one week notice during a building fire alarme test that says the fire alarmes will be sounded but to ignore them as they are being tested but the alarmes may go off without warnning
Thomas if you already have got a key, put in "test mode" that would save a bit of time and your ears may not bleed at the end of day.. ps in test mode you won't need to put as much smoke in it as detectors are more sensitive..

Where I work as a rule I do a weekly call point/fire alarm test on a Thursday around the same time so staff know it's a test and at the same time I do a single emergency light spot test. I then fill out a record spreadsheet I knocked up on excel with the dates tested, location and any findings. That has been enough to please the people in charge

I did the emergency lighting at the same time but again, had to chop it out due to time constraints on the film. I think I will do an emergency lighting video separately. the way you are doing it sounds the same as most I think. There are official docs you can use to fill out this stuff but nothing wrong with using your own as long as it covers everything that's needed. I don't see why not? On site is a file which contains the fire alarm plans, zone charts, and test results etc. ;-)
I just did a fire test in an apartment here. Gave caretaker over a week notice on day I was to be there so they could notify tenants. When it came to ring the bells, everyone came out... They never got notified. I usually do the testing with bells offline then when done, do a final test with bells.
May I ask how do u change the sounder settings? Edit: I mean change the tone of the sounder Question 2:if u do emergency lights? How often do u have to test them?

For what reason would you have the detectors only programmed for a single thing? Presumably you're paying to have both heat and smoke sensors in the unit, so why not have them both enabled, especially in a hallway like this, it's not like it's in a boiler/airing cupboard. Also why only heat and smoke? I'd have thought modern systems could quite cheaply add a CO sensor as well.
Mustang because you couldn’t really have a smoke alarm in the kitchen because of vapour and general fumes so you would have the detector programmed to heat
CO sensors would mean a significant increase in unit cost, that would really add up on any significant project, and if not required by the standards why price for them if your competitors pricing the job won't Would also make testing more costly if testing the CO component, (more gear to carry around too), and CO sensors usually have a limited lifespan so replacements would be required much sooner.
dude that system has a one man test mode..also have a look at the Apollo no climb test pole it will save you lugging your steps about and the test head fits over the afd so you can use less smoke stopping false alarm after testing.it also has a heat detector test head.
in this vid it was FP200 but in a regular house i'll use a standard 3 core T&E. although it depends on the type of house, if its a thatched roof then i wire in FP200 or No-Burn. ;-)

These systems seem pretty similar to American systems though I'm curious as to why it's only audible and there's no visual element to the alarm? Is this because the alarm in this building is old, or is it because there's no law saying there has to be a visual aspect for deaf people?

You can put the panel in walk test mode and it will reset itself after every activation.

Also that is a neat system you have... I don't think we have any system that fancy approved here... but Canada is very conservative with Fire Alarms.

testing Tuesday was also for Broadmoor hospital escape prisoner alarm back in the the day at 10am - most towns in a 10 mile radius had a siren.

D-Tronics UK they should not be vaping as its stupid for a start you can opt for heats
Dont vape then. There's nothing you can install in your flat unless you fit a heat detector, but it is illigal to mess with the system.

You coud have just put in test mode and it would have saved you going up and down the stairs, or hirng an apprentice. Everything awesome
