The problem with the methods using canned milk is tin cans are lined with a layer of plastic. Heat and fat causes the plasticizers (chemicals such as phthalates) to leach into the food. Phthalates are endocrine disruptors and are very difficult to purge from one's system. They are "forever", like PFAS, PFOA.

I wonder if similar results could be achieved with a non toxic workaround - say for example, dump the condensed milk into a small canning jar, seal and place in pressure cooker? i know it would work for the crock pot method because I've stewed things using that method.

I have never used a canner, so I can't help, sorry! I've only cooked two cans at a time on my regular pressure cooker and left them the same amount of time 35 on high minutes, and let the pressure release naturally.

Congrats to the presenter for the excellent summary. Worth watching. Let me pls help answering some repeated questions in the comments. Yes, several cans of condensed milk can be boiled at once for as long as they're all on one single layer on the bottom of the pressure cooker but not one on top of the other(s). I always do 7 cans into a 7-litter pressure cooker, filling water about 1 inch above the cans. I place one can in the centre and 6 around. This way the cans hold one another vertically and the bubbles from the boiling water do not move the cans. I boil them for 30, 35, or 40 minutes, depending on how thick I want the boiled condensed milk to come out, counting the minutes from the moment that the pressure cooker starts releasing pressure through the valve. A 30-minute boiling gives a beige-like condensed milk colour and a much spreadable consistency, and so when increasing the minutes of cooking the colour intensifies so does the consistency thickens. Regarding the texture, even the 40-minute boiled condensed milk is still spreadable, just by mixing it with a spoon or a spatula to make if softer. Certainly pressure cookers can be intimidating to some to be used. The advice is to use a pressure cooker of a high quality, of a well recognized brand, and that it has at least 2 extra safety ways for the pressure to escape in case the main valve gets clogged, and obviously to follow the manufacturer's manual.
Folks... don't you use pressure cooking pots in the US? - The consistency of pressure cooker method dulce de leche depends on the time used. I normally start with 30 m for a not so runny nor frosting version.
I cook pot roast and roast beef in my slow cooker and sometimes its can be over night 8hr on low, or day of 4hrs on high. I can't believe this can't be the same 4hrs on high in a slow cooker like 4hr stove top and yield same results.

I've also done extensive research on the matter to see what scientists have to say about it, and I was pleased to find out that the chances of that happening are very low, and wont happen unless you don't take the precautionary measures which I talk about. However, if you are afraid please dont do it. You can try dulce de leche different ways.

Using a sous vide @ 190 overnight (about 12 hours)...so figuring it will be more like the crock-pot for 8 hrs. Will turn off automatically if it happens to run out of water, very controlled so it shouldn't burn nor explode.
As an Argentinian 1-4 methods are rubbish. Master #5 for the proper dulce de leche. Yours was grainy because you didn’t cook it enough. Good video tho.

you could I like to take it out so it doesn't sit in the aluminum can for too long. You can even freeze it for a few months, it freezes great!
