@@jimbobaggins27Actually John had already gotten into the Grateful Dead’s music by that time, so I wouldn’t rule it out even though it would be another couple years before Dead&Co became a thing.
This was just before he really got into the Dead. In an interview he said the Don Was gave him a copy of the Working Man’s Dead, but didn’t get into it much until the aftermath of his granuloma issue. Pretty insane how Dead-adjacent this song is either way!
Freakin John Mayer, writes guitar riffs so hard they even trip up John Mayer sometimes! Honestly, seeing him stumble a few times made me feel a lot better about the weeks/months I’ve spent banging my head on the wall trying to learn some of his songs while cursing my parents genetics for not giving me the thumb length of a spider monkey
some please help me out, what is he doing at 0:47, i cant figure it out, he goes up the neck for a second before returning to the G and i cant figure it out..thank you :)
So it’s just a bar with the ring finger across the 9th fret 2,3,4 strings making a C bar chord, but ignoring the capo it would be an E chord. So a B chord to an E,then back to the B then down to an A chord. John likes to use the Hendrix style of the chords by using his thumb for the root. Hope I helped :)
I would be curious to ask John about the inspiration behind this melody. Hearing this early version without vocals, I swear it sounds like something right out of a James Taylor song
That whole album is awesome
yah it is
Definetely, the album that we can see john's maturity as songwriter.

Shes steppin out again ❤
That was amazing. I wonder how much influence Jerry’s playing has made on that song. At same time, Meyer’s style is so recognizable
None
This song was written years before Mayer even got into the Dead so yeah none. I can see what you mean though
