Okinawan karate, not flashy & necessarily eye catching but still effective, they still teach real life karate as they have done for centuries, good to see T. Naka of the JKA exploring his karate heritage, having spent my life with Shotokan, it's something I would like to do as well. Watching these now senior Okinawans in action, I pity the poor fool who would ever try & mug them.

I like how this type of Okinawan Karate is way of moving is more practical in a fight than the one watered down of Shotokan for schools that was first exported to America. Not that Shotokan is all wrong, but it gives you bad habits for a real fight.
beating each other to harden the bones is normal thing on every training in shorin ryu and most other okinawian styles, and i assumed it is so in every other karate;but turns out i was wrong, and only kyokushin does it also
In Okinawa, a large part of practice is the hardening of the body. Knuckles, forearms, shins, the body in general. This is done with intent, Okinawan masters strike wood, stone, metal over the course of years to achieve superior hardness and durability. Imagine, being stuck by someone who trains on a bag. Then imagine being struck by someone who has trained a lifetime hitting wood and stone. The body of their opponent is soft and weak, a very comfortable thing for them to strike in comparison to what they have become accustomed to.

65歳とは思えない動きですですね…空手の型の中には棒術の動きがあると聞いたので教わってみたいです。平安2とかは棒があって初めて理解できると聞いたことがあります。
棒術は空手と深い関わりがあり、昔から、「棒術を学ばなければ、空手を半分しか学んだ事にならない。」と言われる程です。沖縄古武道の型も、半分近くが棒術の型であり、棒術の歴史は古く、多くの人々に広まっていた事が伺えます。逆に、意外とマイナーなのが、ヌンチャクで、型は二つしか残っておらず、
盛んになったのが、ブルース・リーが映画で使用してからです。
やっぱ空手は沖縄だな。

棒じゃなくて道着に当った音でしょう。
buzyutusaikou いや、ピュッて風を切る音がする。
ヘッドフォンで聞いても風きり音なんて全然聞こえませんが。そんな凄い音がするなら空気の抵抗を大分受けてるので、そんな棒の使い方ダメなんじゃないですかねえ。
そう言えば意図的に道着に当てたり擦ったりして音出してるって別の棒使いの人が言ってましたよ。
