- Hello and welcome to the Whoniverse and to another installment of the History of Doctor Who series, this time I’m going to be taking a look at the Silence.
Now there is often a misconception that the silence is the name of a species but actually it is a the name of a religion or movement in the universe of Doctor Who.
I’m going to take a look at the idea of the Silence, the creation of the silence ,the different branches such as the Kovarian Chapter and more all in this video!
This video is also the first to feature the new logo and colour scheme which I've made in anticipation for this TH-cam Channel's 1 year anniversary which will be on the 18th March 2018. :)

I liked the true origin of the Silents, the 'perfect priest', you confess to anything and forget that you ever did so
Would love to see an episode with the silents. But this was about the silence
How would that even work? You go for a confession, forget it, so you go do it again. And again. And again. Until sundown, then you return the next day and the next day for weeks on end as you keep forgetting that you have confessed. As a result you still keep whatever guilt inside of you as you forget you ever talked to anyone about it.
That is the single most contraproductive idea of a confessor I ever saw.

Duchess Van Hoof i’d imagine the silent priest would give you the impression that you’ve been absolved of the sins you committed after confessions them, or a non silent member of the papal mainframe would let person know they’ve already confessed as they’d likely keep tabs about that stuff normally.
@@GreaterGrievobeast55 but then that makes the memory aspect a bit redundant. Because if you’ve forgotten you’ve confessed but there’s some staff member on hand to say ‘we’ve received your confession thanks for coming’ then you’ll know that you’ve confessed and so the memory wipe aspect is redundant.
The silence would work better as priests if they were the once that couldn’t remember, so you confess to somebody who will listen, give advice but won’t be able to retain the information. As for how they are in the show, they make no sense as priests 🤣

(Not exactly a rhyme but it was the best 2nd half of the rhyme I could come up with, basically these creatures always start with *Tick tock goes the clock* then they say 1 half of the rhyme, repeat the tick tock verse, and say the 2nd half. Well that's how it went in a fan-made doctor who series involving 1 of these creatures. Now that I think of it I don't think any of you know of the creatures I'm talking about)
if you took out the "or" it would ryme.
So, the Silence is realy concerned about the Doctor speaking his name.
Does that mean the Doctors name is "the sound of Silence"?
His name is Paul Simon or Art Garfunkel.

I really appreciate you pulling in the events from the Big Finish audio. “The Diary of River Song” series three was the first Doctor Who audio I bought my first trip to Who North America.

Great video but can you turn up your volume, speak loader, or move your mic closer. I think that will help people understand you. Compare your videos to big Clive or electroboom. Both have heavy accents but are load so it's easier to understand them.

I love the Silence they are the best aliens/enemy of sorts of Doctor Who.

How does the thing with the "granted another regeneration cycle" work with what we learned in "the timeless child"? Would the doctor still have regenerated even if the timelords hadn't stepped in?
Maybe because the first time The Doctor was meant to die he was in the robot, faking the regeneration before hand, as it was a later version of The Doctor. Not knowing this though River Song the second time drained the weapons systems thinking she saved The Doctor not knowing she wouldn't kill him anyway.
This is what I like to believe anyway as The Doctor did have no remaining regenerations, however at the time of writing the script the writers actually didn't know this thinking he was only on his 12th regeneration. This was before the creation of the War Doctor who was only created because Eccleston refused to come back as the 9th Doctor to play the "War Doctor". So this is probably also the canonical reason they give behind it to fix loose ends that were technically out of their control. It was just a sad situation that made a confusing storyline even more confusing for fans.

This overall plot is an interesting concept. Too bad the way the episodes where written made it completely incoherent.
Symbolism in the plot of silence. It is so overcomplicated nobody can recall anything from it.

what if the memory wipe is how they feed, since the brain gives off electric signals, and in the bathroom scene in S6 E1, they are shown to suck out the electrics to power their attacks, so maybe they take the electrical signals of themselves out of you and feed on that.

Lovely video as always, though I'd still wish for clearer narration / audio. Keep it up and maybe save up for a better mic and do a little speech training. Would benefit your videos a lot imho!

This whole show is to showcase that if yall don't hold yourselves accountable we will repeat history and not only that, it will continue to happen and in a bigger form which is sadder and lonely. I was just doing what i was told to do
So they wanted silence to fall to prevent the Timelords from returning. The Timelords found a way to return through the cracks in time, the weakest point which they could break through. This crack was created by The Big Bang 2, an event that only took place because Madame Kovarian and The Silence locked The Doctor up in The Pandorica.
So technically, The Doctor wasn't the reason the Timelords could return, technically what allowed them to return to this universe was The Silence and their attempts at ensuring the Timelords never returned. That is why you don't piss about and try to change the past, ironically you end up becoming the cause of your own problem. Either way though, no matter how powerful and broken the Timelords were, I don't think preventing their return was worth destroying the universe, freezing time in one single point, creating cracks across time wiping hundreds if not thousands of people from existence or creating a child to use as a weapon which would ironically be your own downfall.
The Doctor is still a Pond. Why? Amy and Roy are his parents. Penelope had her unborn baby swapped by The Silence. They were formed to prevent a fractured timeline.

This works with The Timeless Child perfectly because the TimeLords hid the Doctor’s identity. So they thought the question was The Doctor’s name when Doctor Who? Really meant the Doctor’s origin.
