Lyrics:
Tweedle-dee Dum and Tweedle-dee Dee
They’re throwing knives into the tree
Two big bags of dead man’s bones
Got their noses to the grindstones
Living in the Land of Nod
Trustin’ their fate to the Hands of God
They pass by so silently
Tweedle-dee Dum and Tweedle-dee Dee
Well, they’re going to the country, they’re gonna retire
They’re taking a street car named Desire
Looking in the window at the pecan pie
Lot of things they’d like they would never buy
Great song great artist.
20 years old today!!! Insane! was working at the HMV store in Piccadilly Circus, London when this came out. We had it on like 5 times a day. 7 days a week. Was fabulous!!!!
Such a FANTASIC song!!!
I remember I bought this album the day it came out it was so insane how every word describes the day to a t it all makes perfect sense timelessly I don't believe in coincidence or free will love you bobby
The album came out on September 11 2001
So you went to the record store on 9/11/2001?
I most definitely did. Dylan has been there during the best and worst of times..
One of Dylan’s wittiest songs with every bit of his acerbic wit and ruthless observations of the worst of people. Love it!
I know this is heresy, but I tend to enjoy contemporary Dylan more than 60's Dylan. Everything he's released from TOOM onwards is pure gold!
I agree 100%
He is at a different stage in his life and the lyrics reflect that.
jokermen mindset baby
It’s heresy… but if I’m being real I relate to something like Time Out of Mind a million times more than I do to his early work.
It’s not heretical
Working in customer service, this song pops in my head way too often.
Rockin Bob Dylan is great when he rocks it !
This melody was originally recorded by Country and Western music legends Johnny & Jack & The Tennessee Mountain Boys and was titled Uncle John's Bongos. Look it up.
Thanks for the history on that....
Holy cow. Never knew. I will take it as Bob is keeping that music alive.
Are they credited?
Correct, sir!
Oh..hells yes!!
This is the version of this song I've been looking for forever! Thank You so much! 😁
This songs amazing. My fav song by bob.
The title sums up American politics. Roll on Bob!
It sure does buddy 😂
One word sums up American politics. The word is: Satan
@@loghilman5429 Don't get all magical about it. He lives next door to you.
@@AlicedeTocqueville believe me, I know. I have been visited by "grey aliens" in my dreams. They are demons. I renounce them in the name of God and Jesus Christ.
@@loghilman5429 Please seek help. There are NO demons. You are real, not the demons. Yes, American politics are sick, but the demons are fear and fear, and fear! Demonizing is making a person out of an idea. Ideas are not persons. YOU are a person.
Here ya go .
Get Ready for Bob week
Great song...
Such a spiritual song full of meaning 🤯
Just brilliant...
Este comienzo del disco me pone en las rutas altas, siempre
I remember bought it in SACD format right when it came out... "Time Out Of Mind" set me do it. =)
Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum Is An Absolutely Awesome Great Outstanding Straight Up Kick Ass Rock N Roll Song By Bob Dylan And Totally Rocks This Song Completely Kicks Major Ass And Needs To Be Fully Cranked Up All The Way To Full Maximum Volume.🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
I heard this song in Bandits (2001)
A really good movie .
Finally Dylan's contribution is on you tube and the powers that be probably like his Nobel prize laureate recognition is a safe decision now he's virtually unheard of by many despite my delight to see rough and rowdy ways hitting number one in UK aside from the fact it was released for free! Yes Dylan and Cohen's Dark lugubrious visionary apocalyptic spells suddenly seem very very apt in a world of mixed up confusion!
He sees the World and is able to tell Us how it actually Is
I often ask young bartenders and waitresses if they know who Bob Dylan is. The answer is invariably “no,” or “I’ve heard of him.” Poor things.
relentless among numerous superlatives....theres this bloke
out there on his own, then theres everyone else
NOW?.......WOW!......HOW?'
Tweedle-Dee Dum and Tweedle-Dee Dee
They're throwing knives into the tree
Two big bags of dead man's bones
Got their noses to the grindstones
Living in the Land of Nod
Trustin' their fate to the hands of God
They pass by so silently
Tweedle-Dee Dum and Tweedle-Dee Dee
Well, they're going to the country, they're gonna retire
They're taking a streetcar named desire
Looking in the window at the pecan pie
Lot of things they'd like they would never buy
Neither one gonna turn and run
They're making a voyage to the sun
"His Master's voice is calling me"
Says Tweedle-Dee Dum to Tweedle-Dee Dee
Tweedle-Dee Dee and Tweedle-Dee Dum
All that and more and then some
They walk among the stately trees
They know the secrets of the breeze
Tweedle-Dee Dum said to Tweedle-Dee Dee
"Your presence is obnoxious to me"
They're like babies sittin' on a woman's knee
Tweedle-Dee Dum and Tweedle-Dee Dee
Well, the rain beating down on my windowpane
I got love for you and it's all in vain
Brains in the pot, they're beginning to boil
They're dripping with garlic and olive oil
Tweedle-Dee Dee, he's on his hands and his knees
Saying, "Throw me somethin', Mister, please"
"What's good for you is good for me"
Says Tweedle-Dee Dum to Tweedle-Dee Dee
Well, they're living in a happy harmony
Tweedle-Dee Dum and Tweedle-Dee Dee
They're one day older and a dollar short
They've got a parade permit and a police escort
They're lying low and they're makin' hay
They seem determined to go all the way
They run a brick and tile company
Tweedle-Dee Dum and Tweedle-Dee Dee
Well, a childish dream is a deathless need
And a noble truth is a sacred creed
My pretty baby, she's lookin' around
She's wearin' a multi-thousand dollar gown
Tweedle-Dee Dee is a lowdown, sorry old man
Tweedle-Dee Dum, he'll stab you where you stand
"I've had too much of your company, "
Said, Tweedle-dee dumb to Tweedle-dee Dee
Fun song so FROSTY
seems the pair represent many different things in this song.
Well, they're going to the country, they're gonna retire
They're taking a streetcar named desire
Looking in the window at the pecan pie
Lot of things they'd like they would never buy
My favorite verse...
A song perfectly describing my parents.
❤
The album is called "LOVE and THEFT"
Album title in "...... " for some reason?
Bob Dylan, JCkson Browne... is all I need....tweedlydee...
Thought I was the only one...👍
Seriously, you can't possibly equate Bob Dylan with Jackson Browne?
2nd comment 👍
Lol... I didn't know these characters from Lewis Carrol. It is funny...
mostly the names , not so much the characters .
@@shiitakestick Thanks, Don cahooti.🙏😘
Byrom or Carroll?
Please, look up and listen to Uncle John’s Bongos, by Johnny and Jack..i think?….anyway, same song, ain’t it? Yes…it is.
You should see the vultures surrounding me
Ol Caine and Abel.... .
This sinister little rocker blows in like an ill wind. Its protagonists are loathsome, Dum more so than Dee. He’s the twin who will ‘stab you where you stand’ (after throwing knives into the tree) twin or no twin. The four lines attributed to him grow increasingly sinister until his wicked intention is unmasked.
‘his master’s voice is calling me’
‘Your presence is obnoxious to me’
‘What’s good for you is good for me’
‘I’ve had too much of your company’
Whether you hear the death knell for tweedle dee/tweedle dum politics in the song or just good old fashioned biblical fratricide it’s a tour de force in my opinion
I think is a metaphore for modern man
If I take 50 cents and turn it into a dollar is there a difference between what I do next.
Folks that don’t dig Dylan are obnoxious to me. Twiddley dee.
i wrote a song for my cat called shum dum doodle
Trump and Biden is what I call'em.
