- If your saw chain is dull you end up doing the work, not your chainsaw. This video describes how to use the GA Spares Saw Chain Sharpening Kit to maintain a sharp saw chain and help get your work done faster and in safety.
Very good tutorial...having cut a lot of wood for almost 50 years, I can attest to the pleasure of a properly sharpened chain. It's faster and much safer than a dull chain

Well, I have just got the Oregon sharpening and guide bar maintenance kit, and the 'instructions' that came with it might as well have been by an astronaut for the sense it made. The video has kind of helped, but I guess I'll have to give it go, as got logs/ timber to cut. Wish me luck 🤞🤪
Agree, some of the worst directions in the kit that I've ever seen! Very shameful.

Thx, good video...was looking on Oregon siet trying to find a kit for the S52, 3/8" x .050" chain... I do not see that size listed, there is a 7/32" listed but is this the right size for the S52 chain ?
brilliant,as i am a novice!! its apity Oregon dont actually put any "written word" in with the kit,it really would help as just a few pictures leave us novices a bit "stumpt" excuse the pun!
saying that the file should be parallel to the ground is a bit erroneous as really what is important and never varies is to keep the file perpendicular to the chain bar.
why was part of the saw blurred?

Another good video, however, there is no need for lengthy filing angle elaboration since Oregon as well as Stihl have the correct filing angle etched into the top surface of every cutting tooth. Years ago when I started using power saws the cutting chains did not have this feature, so somebody digging out an old chain may still better listen to your advice on filing angle.
How did y'all get Michael Caine to narrate this video?
30 deg is for soft wood ,25 deg Australian hard wood ,Box ,red gum ect . Oregon chains sold in Australia are angled at 30 deg which is no good for cutting even stringy bark . I bought a new chain and if was useless for cutting even stringy bark until I re-shaped it to 25deg .It cut through the wood like butter after that.

That funny you should say that !!! i have a johsered 2050 !!! had it from new !! the original chain cuts well but when i got the saw i also got 2 stihl chains as spares !!! as when im cutting i just swap chains then shapen properly when i get home !!! I dont trust my filing skill !!! anyhow i have never been able to get the stihl chains to cut well at all !!! had them in to pros to sharpen with still no success! !!! just recently i baught 3 new oregon chains !!! and the saw now cuts like an absolute dream !!! even better than original chain !!!! just melts threw the wood !!! redgum black box you name it !!!! so must just be a perfect combo to my saw power, torgue , and chain !!!!! just my experience! !!!!

Excellent video.
My only complaint about Oregon is their replaceable sprocket clutch on my 455 husqvarna. Bought as a replacement it barely had 10 hours on it when the welded drive broke off. It was easy to see this weld was barely half way around the circumference but bailey's chainsaw would not warranty this obviously defective part.
What brand of chainsaw were they using? Great video. I learned a lot.

Why does my cut always try to curve to the left no matter how I hold it?
Excellent video, full of useful info,but I got very frustrated watching that guy cutting all those silly little bits of wood when they should have been firewood sized chunks! I’ll get over it.
Could be using them in a pot belly stove or another small stove.

I spent a bit of time pausing, rewinding, pausing, trying slow motion, WAY too much time showing pointless promotional cutting shots, very little detail so you could actually see what to do. With the terrible instructions, you are left guessing. My chains are going dull in about one hour of cutting autumn olives trees up. After watching this video I tried sharpening, still would not cut, so just went with chain #3...now that's dull, very frustrating.

Befuddled at all these glowing reviews, must be Oregon employees? The sharpening kit came with useless instructions, really shameful. This was a slightly helpful video, but not a good one. I spent a lot of time pausing, rewinding, pausing, trying slow motion, WAY too much time showing pointless promotional cutting shots, very little detail so you could actually see what to do. Video is only 480p?! So blurry you can't see the details on how to place the file and what the cutters should look like, before and after. With the terrible instructions, you are left guessing. My chains are going dull in about one hour of cutting autumn olives trees up. After watching this video I tried sharpening, still would not cut, so just went with chain #3...now that's dull, very frustrating. Watched this video again now, no clue what I'm doing wrong.
