I have seen I would say about 5 other agency videos on TH-cam but I gotta say you elaborate it in the way for everyone to understand with examples , like I just turned 15 and I have so many plans for acting seeing myself go far , and your videos help a lot ✌🏾✨
Sev! You are a God-send. I've always wanted to be an actress and when COVID started it was a kick up the backside. I just realised life was short and if this was what I wanted to do then why wasn't I doing it. Your videos have been such a great resource and I just wanted to comment and let you know how much I, and probably so many others appreciate you. Hoping your career keeps going from strength to strength!
I recently applied to my favourite agency and I'd say I did half the things you said NOT to do ahahaha good luck to me getting signed!! brilliant video though so informative i appreciate you so much for helping us all out!!!
I’m sure your email was better than you thought it was! I don’t mean to discourage you. I made tons of mistakes too, I promise 🤣 💕 glad you found the video helpful. Thank you so much for watching
Wow, we just came to your channel from Kelly Stamp’s comment section (we also recently started a TH-cam channel) and love your vibe! We are not aspiring actors but have so much fun acting out some skits in some of our videos...looking forward to see more of your content and get some tips to improve our level haha! Keep up the great work and hope we can cross paths one day or maybe even collaborate on TH-cam, if it ever makes sense! ☺️💛
I love your content. So fun(ny) and relatable. I definitely deeped that I have to write myself into my dream roles and opportunities. Le Sigh. But I'm ready, it's time.
Hi Sèverine, I had several agent meetings and I’ve made my final decision. I’m wondering how I go about telling the other agents I’m picking someone else and when is the proper time period to get back to them all, the meetings were last week
I’m not sure if I should say that I had experience since I am a dancer however I have done many musicals, pantos and shows and I’m not sure if that counts as experience
definitely counts! Include it all on your CV. Be sure to specify the role (weather onstage or offstage) and you're good to go. You can also put classes as experience on your CV under a "training" section. Actors who are very experienced still sometimes include where they trained and any workshops they go to along the way :) Hope that helps!
Heading to theatre bookshops when they’re open is a great place to start but there are plenty of online resources too. Have a look at some plays that theatres previously did (NT live is a great space for that) and watch the plays then take note of your favourites and look for the scripts. (You can usually find free pdf versions of scripts online if you have a hunt). You can do the same with your favourite tv shows. Watch them carefully and pay attention to when characters are speaking for a long period of time cos those will usually be some decent monologues. Also, head to some acting classes if they’re open near you, especially ones where you get given material to learn in advance. If you get given material that’s a couple of pages long for a class that you enjoy, go the extra mile and buy a copy of that whole play to read. Always make sure you read the whole play / episode/ film script if you can when approaching a monologue. I hope that helps.
Yes! Skip to 17:54 😊 No harm in writing to them to introduce yourself and say who you are. I’d encourage you to have material to send to them and also respond to callouts they post on their social media platforms 👌🏾 Keep the emails short and to the point. They know why you’re writing, so pitch yourself originally. Ask yourself if you would LOVE the email you’re writing
Yes it is possible to get agents internationally but it can’t be a bit tricky if you aren’t able to travel much to the country where your international agent is based. As always, you need an awesome showreel, a brilliant headshot and ideally some experience to get an agent, but my advice is always to start locally where you are and take it from there. I’m hosting a giveaway on my most recent video where we can cover this sort of advice 1-2-1. Take a look!
i really wanna play miles morales live action but i feel like im not gonna make it since theres so many rumours on ppl who r gonna play the character most of them r african american.(im a black british)
Can I ask agian😂 when would you say is the best time for an Actor to look for an agent or is that personal and up to him/her self , and also do I reach out to the agent or agency ? Hmmm...🤔 I’m confused 💀😂
Hey! This is kind of a tricky question as there is no right time to reach out to an agent, it really depends on the actor and how much experience they have as well as how confident they feel about approaching the industry. But experience does also count in the form of training, so I think it’s important you get some classes or some form of training beforehand. I’d aim for at least a few months - a years worth as a minimum but everyone is different and it depends entirely on the actor, so it’s hard to give a definitive answer for when. As for who do you reach out to, I think it’s always best to reach out to a specific agent at an agency. Do your research about which agents work for a certain agency, have a look at that agent’s individual books and make your decision from there. Some agency websites don’t say who the agents are so if that’s tricky to find, it’s ok to address it to the whole agency. Think of it this way: if someone wanted to work with you, would you rather they write to you personally or just a generalised email to the company you work for? I hope that helps!
@@SeverineHowellMeri wow that went into depth thanks 😊, with this video I see myself playing a character called miles morales ( live action 😏), I have had experience in training and 3 professionals credits . 2021 here we goo!!💪🏾
I love this video!!! Thank you 🧡 Is it rude to tell an agency that they don’t have many black actors. (So that’s why you want to work with them) I feel like they would get offended lol.
Nothing wrong with stating facts🤷🏾♀️😂 it’s not rude to say you noticed they don’t represent a lot of black talent. But be wary of some agents making stereotypes and if anyone implies that they want to sign you because of your skin colour over your talent, that’s something I might consider being conscious of. I think it’s ideal for a lot of actors to be offered opportunities because of their talent, not their skin colour or cultural background. You’re stating a fact, not making an accusation by pointing that out, but I encourage you to ask the questions you need to ask to make sure that agent is really right for you. Ask yourself, what is it about that agent that makes you want to work with them? Why that agent? Safety is the priority. I hope that helps!
