  • Tutorial 3 demonstrates how to image through a lens using algebraic equations: lens maker's equation. Viewer beware! I discuss lens maker's equation pitfalls due to sign conventions. If you want to really understand imaging, with an honest to goodness intuition, please wait for tutorial #4.

I never thought I'd be able to handle this equation and concepts about how lenses work and apply it to my photography work. I'm not a complete moron with algebra but let's say I love physics and engineering from a non-mathematical understanding. Your explanation is really well-prepared and understanding of your audience. Thanks so much.

Are there any applicable PDE's for optical frequencies or optics in general. For radio frequency this would be the telegraphers equation from which the smith charts are derived from or the eletromagnetic wave equation. Of course the electromagnetic wave equation applys to all EM radiation but it seems less applicable to optical frequencies in terms of application. For fully modeling an Antenna radiation pattern there is no way around doing the PDE however optical frequencies seem much simpler. However i cant help but wonder if there are applications where the EM PDE come into play ...

    Awesome...
but how can we have access to solutions to homeworks?
