The size difference is due to the old days when lumber was cut untreated and not dried all the way before cutting...2x4 was the initial cut before shrinkage...proportionally ...love your tutorials, your awesome.
Thank you, yea I was doing a project recently and was shocked to see the difference between the new and old. I had old actual 2x4’s on my property lol. The old ones also weigh more and have way more rings on them. Maybe that depends on the wood though.
If you organize your design correctly then yes, but it is still a manual process as the software will not tell you the numbers automatically. What you could do is put specific materials in folders and then simply count the instances.
Hey man, 2x4 is 3.5 x 1.75 or 3.5 x 1.6ish depending g on who you ask. If you think about it, if you tack to pieces of 2x4 and lay them flat on top of one another, and place a 2x4 side up , it should be relatively level with the two flat pieces. FYI, just trying to help (p.s. not all 2x4 are made to spec either, but rarely 1.5 on that side)

Maybe they are different depending on where you buy them 🤷♂️ my local Lowes says “2x4, actual 1.5x3.5.”
