Very lively this vid 😊
And the auto industry is wondering why people aren't buying new cars, over priced and the owner can't do simple maintenance anymore
The most honest mechanic in the world. Unbelievable. God bless the parents of Scotty who brought up someone who is not greedy and loves to teach.
I believe scotty likes to help people and keeping them from getting ripped off..great guy Scotty 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍👍
I bought a 1965 Ford Mustang 289 because Scotty told me to a long time ago. I’ve never regretted that decision. Thank you, Scotty.✝️🇺🇸👍🏻
They're bullet-proof!!!! Will literally run forever.
@@santaclause2875is that all you people care about? Smh
@@ak_getright9905 Running forever? Yes
Beautiful car , you’ll never loose money on that great car
@@ak_getright9905 what’s your problem, Bub?
My 2003 Toyota Yaris (Echo) has a battery management system that is very simple to reset. Just put the new battery in, turn the ignition key on without starting the car, and wait for 30 seconds to 1 minute. During that time the car computer will detect the new voltage battery and adjust accordingly.
Wow, changing oil filters in your car made Scotty 20 years younger. I'm going to try that and see what happens. 😂😂😂
Be sure to change the oil also! Maybe get even more years.
I don’t just watch your videos for education, I just love your charisma.
You tell 'em Scotty! An honest mechanic that speaks truth.
Happy Father's Day Scotty
This video actually has some of the most knowledgeable and useful tips. Good job on this one.
Scotty is Right about the oil filter gasket...🤔😊
Yep, I had my oil changed at Pep Boys and they double gasketed the filter while I was on vacay in Florida. Next day I’m in Mississippi and my oil light warning alarm is screaming. Luckily a Kia dealership was just down the road and they were the ones who informed me of the double-gasket. No more Pep Boys for me.
12:21 I've had this happen when changing oil on my 2013 5L F150 and ended up with several qts of oil on the ground before I could shut it down.
@@glockguy55 I bet you don’t do that anymore. One time I did an oil change and forgot to put the drain plug back in before I poured in the new oil! Now I make sure by using a torque wrench on it. 🤨
Yep, that happened to me once. Fortunately, I discovered the mistake within a few seconds of starting my truck and seeing all the oil get dumped.
Scotty always a wealth of knowledge.
YES
I've always known to put the negative on a ground, not the negative terminal. I thought it was to give the (bad) battery less stress during the jump, but that sensor thing is another good reason.
Alot of us are mechanics and good DIYers because of him!
Thanks for giving me that confidence for the past 15 years!! You're like a father figure to us lol
Because they want you to bring the car to the dealership for high priced maintenance as often as they can.
I doubt there are many of the Houston videos left in the archive. From what he said some time ago all those houses in that neighborhood are now long gone.
I was going to reply that Scotty "moved" back to Texas. I didn't know there were videos that were not released.
I did the double gasket on oil filter once. Never again after that. The engine was fine as it was shut off once the leak started but it did have me make sure they are not double gasketed again.
thanks. nice throwback clips Scott 👍🏼
One advantage of the manual transmission is, you can change the gear oil, even if it has been delayed for a long time. But not for the automatic which is so flimsy.
As odd as it sounds, the manual transmission in my car uses automatic transmission fluid.
Scotty hope you're having a great weekend!
Scotty, that was masterful. Thank you.
All good information Scotty. thanks
Amen. All absolutely correct. Bares repeating in this video.
Geeze!!! Too complicated! tnx scotty
Lots of discussion about resetting BCM on Ford forums. Apparently it can do it itself after it has been parked 8 hours.
Good info
Viscosity of the engine oil should depend on the temperature where you located. 10/30 in Arizona in summer time is like water and you can hear all the engine componentes crying.
Thank you Scotty Kilmer always keeping us informed and updated
THANK YOU ❤
Nice way to incorporate new clips with a 20 year old clip. Nothing like aging right before your eyes. 😂. Cheers 🍻
I thank you to the world the knowledge I have gotten from you
👍 Thanks Scotty!
This explains so much when i was having battery problems with my 2013 dodge dart...
Reset what? My 2000 Toyota is plug and play.
Junk
The W stands for winter, not weight. Just learned that a few weeks ago.
I was just going to comment on that.
Yes, the W stands for Winter, but an oil's viscosity is commonly referred to as the oil's weight. Scotty's not suggesting the W stands for Weight, he's merely describing the oil viscosity as is commonly done. And both numbers in an oil's description are specifying the oil's weight. The first number is the weight when cold, the second number is the oil's weight when hot (212 deg F).
Thanks!
Great info! I recently found that new electronic battery chargers won't sense a completely dead battery and will tell you it is bad. I replaced a battery over this, only to find later that all I had to do was introduce a 12v current to the circuit in parallel, and the old "dead" battery charged to full level.
How interesting, that car makers don’t want people to work on their cars by putting all this technology under the hood, I have learned a great deal from yr videos, many thanks!
The point about not jump starting directly to the battery negative also applies to when you jump start another car from your car.
Basically the black leads should go from chassis/engine of one car to chassis/engine on the other car.
I use a battery charger at 2amps to change a battery and that way the computer won't loose power when changing the battery. Works pretty good 😊
You can also buy a device that plugs into your cigar lighter that has a 9 v battery, it will usually save all your radio presets and whatnot
Hey Scotty, what about using trickle chargers or battery maintainers on newer vehicles. Do they screw up the battery sensors? Thanks for all you do.
thanks you Scotty Kilmer , i learn a lot from Scotty Kilmer, it’s made my life better 😊😅(from Australia)
I hate those right side mirrors that change the view perspective.
The cable is the negative you need to take off if working on any electrical components. Only the negative as you eliminate the feed to the pcm ect.
2021 Nissan Titan my amp gauge was non stop all over the place and battery constantly dead/dying. Unplugged the negative cable sensor and now the gauge is rock solid and haven't had another battery issue since. Truck runs fine, no change in power or gas mileage and been unplugged for almost 2 years.
I can't even count how many times I've seen the Oil filter gasket get stuck to an engine. That's a good reminder.
I just bought a new toyota. Thanks for this advise.
Lol...All Scotty's tools are fancy:)
You got to love Scotty. I just wish she lived closer to my location in Pennsylvania.
Some car makers change the oil specs after production and the cap is wrong. The manual will be wrong too. Check the internet for the type oil to use.
Have a 2005 Ford Five Hundred with 40,000 miles on it! The only way you can work on anything on the vehicle is to completely remove all power from it! Even replacing fuses!
I bought my 08 matrix about 26 months ago, and it had rolled up to 299,999. No idea what's really on it now, but only vehicle have ever owned that doesn't use oil between bi-annual oil changes, along with tire swaps for winter. Ain't changing anything else but oil and filter, air cleaners, maybe polish the headlights...
Hi Scotty, is your advice about not connecting to the negative terminal on the battery apply when using a super capacitor like the Autowit you previously reviewed?
Thank you very knowledgeable sir 💪
Blast from the past!! still accurate!
Sending our love for this channel, in care of the Al Gore rhythm.
hi Scotty..........can I change the battery while the engine still running on honda accord ? .....thanks
Interesting, I always though it was important to attach the ground cable to a metal piece of the frame Before connecting the positive to the battery.
I have two Toyota's. What is the best scan tool? 1 is a 2012 Toyota Tundra 4x4 with the 5.7L and the 2nd is a 2017 Toyota RAV4 XLE
SUV 4D (2.5L I4 SMPI Gasoline)
Love all the great advice you give Scotty!!! It's very helpful and interesting!! 👍😁👍
I've always enjoyed informative videos, however I'm concerned that the overhead of your garage doorway might collapse on you. Please have it replaced. I wouldn't want to read that you have been injured. 😢
Porsche also has an MBS Scotty!
Speaking of changing spark plugs, is it important to use a torque wrench? Talking about a
Corolla here.
Hey scotty I have hyundai coupe and my car goes to the left when i let off sterring wheel. What do you think that is broken?
Realize, this is making my head spin!
Does securing the neg. cable to body apply to donor and receiver battery or just receiving battery?
The noco gb40 (with its short cables and therefore unable to connect to the engine mount that it says in the vehicle manual) says to connect the negative clamp to the battery. Will this cause problems with the electronic battery sensor?
Love your videos. I definitely share them with my family members
Scotty,
What about adding Lucas oil stabilizer to a car? Will the car extra heaviness delay the top of the engine from proper lubrication like using a heavier than recommended weight oil will do?
If you are going to do some welding do you have to take positive cable off battery?
Don't need any fancy scan tools to reset the battery on a Ford Fusion. Flash lights 5 times then push brake twice. Performs a BMS reset.
Is this for real?
did you switch to castrol gtx oil? :D
What cars have a battery management system ?
Scotty, please pass down the wisdom & integrity to our next wave of mechanics. Its hard to find mechanics like Scotty
What do recommend when the vehicle will be in storage for 3 months, re the battery?
Top 10 greatest TH-cam channels ever.
Sir,I have a question regarding driving an automatic transmission car on a 30-kilometer range uphill or downhill route. What is the best driving method to use?
Should I use the OD (Overdrive) OFF function to assist with engine braking, or should I use gear 2, 1, or L for the entire 30 kilometers instead of using OD OFF to prevent damage to the transmission?
Your answer and explanation would be greatly appreciated.
Thankfully if the battery dies , I just get out the crank handle . Yes simple magneto and a up draft carby . And battery charge is a 20watt solar panel on the roof
My 2019 Highlander has a EFB battery. They were going to put in a Glass Mat battery. Would that be ok? I chose to get the EFB but could I have used the Glass Mat?
How do you get the old gasket off if it is such to the engine?
That was a great video Scott,
Very informative 😁
You rock Scotty!
Scotty is using keeps.
Back to the future edition. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Återigen. Vad heter din scan tool????????
This is my type of video! Thanks Scotty ❤
11:58 Some mechanics recommend to use a thicker oil if your car did about 125 000miles. (200 000kms). Can you confirm this? As they explain that the gap between piston rings are wider due to wear and tear. And thicker oil help to seal that gap. For purposes of pressure.
For older pushrod engine maybe, not for overhead cam.
I pulled up to a gas station on base in the 90s. A guy was checking everything under his hood. As I drove up, the battery blew up. I gave him a ride home so he could clean up and change clothes and use his other car to get to work.
what ya hook the keep memory device to when you take the battery out ??
The one Scotty showed, OBD port & a spare 12 volt battery (doesn't have to be the same capacity as your car's battery....a motorcycle battery etc)
It would be simple for BMW etc. to make a reset button or screen menu option so the owner or tyre/brakes/battery outlet could tell the car when they fit a new battery. But they won't because it's £££/$$$ for the dealer.
Does anyone know if a 2018 Lincoln MKZ or a 2021 Acura TLX need to be reprogrammed when they get a new battery?
My F-250 is a 1990. Maybe one day I will get a modern vehicle. But I doubt it LoL. I am retired.
Can I safely use a keep memory alive device AND weld at the same time? Or would the computer be toast?
Scotty's getting younger..‼
I doubled my Saturn oil filter gasket. I learned the hard way not to do that again.
I love how the video is about modern car problems and the car Scotty decides to use as the example car is a 90’s car 💀
RIP to the people who failed to do these 5 things. Maybe if you had listened to Scoot your car would've made it to 400,000 miles.
Ah! They wanted the new car smell.
@@Michael-yi4mc Ahh yes, new car smell. Devoid of other people's farts.
My Ford van has 480,000.
What were the 5 things?
I SO VERY MUCH wish there was a new car to buy that had the "tech level" of a walk-behind lawn mower, like they were up until about 1968.
Invaluable information. Scotty knows some stuff.
I remember doing several oil changes on cars and when the filters came off with two O-rings. I've done a lot of oil changes. What I hate the most is a filter that must have been installed by the Jolly Green Giant, because it took a wench truck to get the thing off! Great video!
