@@MrJosephz23 Yes you can if the top of the tile is level within 1/8" across 6 feet, just like when you self-level a floor. I once installed double-glued wood flooring over tile in 2019 and it is still working perfect in their house.
Thanks! I had to make sure those graphics were on point, just like the flooring. I was hesitant because I though the video might be getting too long, but 30 minutes of eduction contains years of experience and fails.
Sir you're definitely an engineer you're very thorough.... Totally and completely innovative in what you're doing there... fascinating.... It's very interesting listening to you.... And it appears you invent things as you're working.... Very innovative and several notches above normal craftsmanship... Thanks for making such a instructive and helpful video sir.
I just stumbled uppon this channel as I'll be entering a renovation soon and I have to say...wow. This videos are pretty high quality, with precise and detailed instructions ( I loved the comment on doing the 6 bags of self leveling in under 20min at the most...is key data to understand how fast you need to do something). Impressive channel, thanks a lot and keep up the good work. I've subscribed already :)
yes!!! please, more tutorial videos! love these in addition to your inventory/sales videos. We bought a fixer upper home and flooring is next. I have so many projects to go. Your videos are invaluable!
TH-cam should just list this video above all. Great step by step instruction and clear and thank you for taking the time to make this video. legendary video!!!
Another great video. I especially like your how-to videos, because they're real: you take us through doing an actual job, instead of showing us how to 'do something' in a 20,000 sq ft workshop with millions of dollars worth of tools. It's also what I like about the Stud Pack channel. But I especially enjoy your channel because you explain things like an engineer.
I have searched and I mean really searched for videos and this one really is the most beginner friendly I have seen. Great Job. My search is over!! I am doing a reno n my channel will definitely use this thes tips
Another great video Jeff, now I know what to look for while having someone install my hard wood flooring. I don't mind paying the cost, because it's a demanding job. Nobody wants short cuts, and F- ups.
What a great DIY style and commentary you have! I put vinyl laminate "boards" down in two rooms in my house last year and I wish I had something like this to guide me. I have a single family one story house with a full slab foundation so a loose subfloor was not an issue but I did have to do some minor leveling. And yes, cutting the flooring did ruin my tablesaw blade. Who knew? Still, going DIY saved me so much money that I don't mind the ocassional costly mistake or extra trip (or three) back to the store for replacements or things I didn't know I needed at first.
50 year carpenter here who learned a lot from this video. DIY videos generally make me crazy, but nothing to criticize here except perhaps you could have glued in the 3/4” +/- piece of baseboard next to the door casing and coped the next piece to it rather than caulking the inside corner. Cope first, check fit, then mark and cut the outside miter. Copes are so easy and satisfying.
THANK YOU! I'm seeing your video too late (we're in the middle of the install. Knowing to lay the planks across the room first would have been great. You have been far more informative than any of the other videos I've seen. YES! Those little spacers are useless!!! Question: The instructions say to put a bead of silicone on the baseboard. Where? On the bottom? On the floor where the baseboard meets the planks? Won't that, in a sense, glue down the planks? If only on the top, as you show in your video, how do I ensure that spilled water doesn't get underneath and ruin the planks? I don't trust the backer rod to completely protect.
Thank you for a great, informative, easy-to-follow video. It's too bad this wasn't out several years ago when my husband replaced cheap carpet with laminate flooring. We had no idea about half the stuff you showed us. The floors look OK, and he worked very hard, but I'm not terribly impressed. I almost wish we still had the cheap carpet. I have to give the guy credit though - he did try.
Thanks for the vid. I’ve watched a few of your other videos. Good content! Also was wondering about trimming corners and if it’s gonna be ok with a gap since I know I didn’t mud a exact perfect 90 degree and there’s a slight unnoticeable bow and nice to see you just use caulk. (Haven’t got to that step yet to learn)
What an amazing video! Thank you! I just ripped up 25 year old carpets in a couple of rooms and will be attempting to install floating floors next. Question about the baseboards - some of them had gaps underneath at the end of the video. Is that intentional? Is there way around it? Thanks!!
Sure wish you were in Oklahoma. I’m getting some work done at my house. The guy doing the work is a quality guy, just wish you could have done the work and I could know 100% that it is done correctly.
Yes, you must bond the cork to the subfloor using Roberts 7250 Cork Underlayment Adhesive: homedepot.sjv.io/jr3936 For the baseboards you want to use Dap Dynaflex 230 Window, Door, and Trim Sealant homedepot.sjv.io/da0MWq on the top of the baseboards, because over years I found it remains white. The others fade quickly to an unpleasant off-white color. I use 18 gauge brad nails to secure the baseboards to the wall through the studs.
At the door way, why didn't you hide the flooring better under the door trim?? Maybe it was the camera angle but it doesn't look right. Please explain.
When I put laminate flooring on top of our squeaky floor from the 60s, i drove about 400 screws (120mm) into the beams right through the boards. There was no sub floor, the existing hardwood was veneired flooring boards 20mm thick. Subfloor and finished product in one... Unfortunately impossible to fix squeaks after the fact. I looked at it as the new subfloor, and went from there.
Is there a way to do it so I do NOT have to shave down my door? Also, we are nearing the end of the project, but are stumped on some of the last pieces. We have a multi-angled piece to fit under the door jamb...but...we can't figure out how to click it in place. There's no room to maneuver. Is the only option to totally remove the door trim, jamb, and casing??

So much easier to put the planks together and measure. A lot of time gets wasted making calculations that could end up wrong so limit the chance for error by taking time to prep and plan around cabinets and doorways
Question…why is it necessary to cut off the side edge tongue and leading edge tongue?? Can’t you just base your 3/8ths gap off of the tongue? Thanks in advance!
Vinyl is worse it has a bad feel to it. IF you get 1/2" thick higher quality laminate it will look nice and feel good to walk on. The underlayment is an important part of that comfort feel.
@@jeffostroff I disagree, the installers of mine didn't realize that my dishwasher would no longer fit & that my doors would rub the flooring & the seals near the outer doors is not water-resistant so moisture can more easily get under the laminate & keep the subfloor wet for longer. I wish I could get my money back but kicking that horrible flooring company out of my house & trashing this 12mm flooring is probably what I'll end up with.
