My high school Business teacher once told us quite proudly how, in her younger years, she once sang this (awesome) song in a radio karaoke contest. To this day it reminds me of her.
Pulling a recording session like this together must have been a huge task. The outcome yields such a smooth reward to us, the general public, we almost didn't notice due to the fantastic song writing. Likely some of the best musicians in the world at that time. It plays on the radio and nobody really notices because there are no flaws
Countless artists have covered this song through the years.. a lot did a really good job at it, a few even did a phenomenal job, but no one came close. Alannah truly is outstanding.
Some bands and artist don't understand. They try to top a song by covering. Won't never happen to a really good Song. Just changing one member of the original lineup can surely destroy the "feeling". Songs grow into musicians and bands, its not just "songs". No one can ever top this. Also: you can never sing or play the same exact way as another person. This is a fact.

asioczek7 Elvis was born in Mississippi in a dry spell he knew how to dance and sing so he went to Memphis where his songs made the girls go wild. that’s what I gathered in reading the lyrics
David Bently: true, but his parents moved to the outskirts of Memphis when he was young. They were poor and lived on the other side of the tracks so he grey up around blues singers. They taught him. Even his “look” fake from the store in Memphis where the blues legends bought their clothes. Blue suede shoes, long collar, etc. He didn’t go to Memphis for or after fame, he came from it. He was surrounded by Gospel and Blues. So when some people say he “stole” the R&R sound, the truth is he was part of it. They welcomed him in and taught him blues. But his singing style was all his own!
I occasionally hear this song on the radio while driving alone and it makes me cry ever time 😢 heres to the folks ive know who are forever young.... Lol feeling stupid now, the tears are flowing freely
+DiamondPR0DIGY Quoting from Wikipedia: "Black Velvet became a number one hit for two weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in 1990 and reached number one on the Album Rock Tracks chart, as well as number one in Canada and number two on the UK Singles Chart. Myles won the 1990 Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocalist for the song. Since its release, the song has received substantial airplay, receiving a "Millionaire Award" from ASCAP in 2005 for more than four million radio plays." Underrated indeed :)

Toujours aussi agréable à écouter 😊
My high school Business teacher once told us quite proudly how, in her younger years, she once sang this (awesome) song in a radio karaoke contest. To this day it reminds me of her.

Oh, she was not ashamed of who knew about that. She was a gem of a woman and teacher.
I love the bass line to this...and Alannah Myles is STUNNING!!!
Bad ass bass line .. 100%
The guitar solo on this is even better if you ask me.

Pulling a recording session like this together must have been a huge task. The outcome yields such a smooth reward to us, the general public, we almost didn't notice due to the fantastic song writing. Likely some of the best musicians in the world at that time. It plays on the radio and nobody really notices because there are no flaws
Absolutely 2024
At 46 years of age, this is still my favourite song ever!!!
I remember this wonderful song from my youth. I am 71 year old !😀
Countless artists have covered this song through the years.. a lot did a really good job at it, a few even did a phenomenal job, but no one came close. Alannah truly is outstanding.

Listen and rate the cover version of this song performed by the Ukrainian band Sershen&Zaritskaya

@d R covered several times; the original is Alannah's.
Best video short movie work of art ever created ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Alana Miles was so under rated, this was and always will be a great rock classic.
I could never get tired of this song, listen to over & over... She has a beautiful voice...🌹🌹
What a GREAT 80's CLASSIC!!! 👏 A beautiful declaration of honour and love to the King of Rock'n'Roll, Elvis Presley!!! 🎶💖🎶
I just just discovered this for the first time. What a smashing Song🌺. Music is a universal art❤🤲.. I am writing from Lincolnshire England.
Immer wieder Gänsehaut ❤ egal wie oft man es sich anhört.
Excellent chef d'œuvre d'une incroyable artiste canadienne ! .. 💙🎸
One best Elvis Presley tribute songs ever!
Here in 2019?!
yes i thought it was thanks for confirming

Love this now as much as I did when released. Amazing voice and deserved more success than she got. That unique raspy voice is so fabulous. Her band excellent too. We love you. Love from the UK.
Possibly, the sexiest record ever recorded, the sexiest performance too.
Sadly careless whispers take that place
@@TheLittleRedVixen I got no vote but reckon why this girl didn't really make the big time? Worked personal security for some of Nashville royalty and there was always talk, that I really can't repeat exactly, about the "powers" in Nashville and music in general, that decided who was in and who was out. Talent wasn't the prime driver of who that might be. Met some of em....I wasn't even looked at. Invisible. Kinda way it was supposed to be but there are ways of bein ignored that are more disrespectful. My life and living had nothing to do with them and....ah, nevermind. Most of them gone but their damage was done. Never interacted with this young lady but was around her at several events. Seemed like nice person. Maybe that was the problem. L8r.

this song never ever gets old ... what an absolute masterpiece
Even the way she performed this was the most perfect way to do it. The passion in the face, The body movements to the beat. Just WOW, I was born in 1999 and will be carrying this music to my kids like my family did.
Man this songs brings me back to when I was 8 years old sitting in the back of my fathers car while we were on our way to wherever I don't know.
What I do know is that back then I loved this song, I didn't understand what it was about as I'm from Belgium and speak Dutch.
What I did understood was that it was an awesome song and it stuck in my head for years even now I listen to it from time to time being a 31 year old man I thank my father for listening to this kind of music
I’m from Memphis so, this song has a very special meaning for me. Elvis Presley was a HUGE part of our lives growing up.
That's my experience with Bonnie Tyler's songs too:) I loooooved that shit, and I was like 5 livin in Serbia
I first heard it as a 10 year old in India on the radio.. I memorised the words and it remained with me till today as a 28year old 🖤
Yes I was about that age, & we lived in Germany on military base. I did not know what the song meant but later I learned & visited Memphis. It's a cool place to go
Pity she didn’t have more hit songs. She has a great singing voice. And plus she is super gorgeous
Indeed. She's really underrated singer.
She does have a really really good voice
She had all kinds of hits in Canada, the US radio stations/ music industry wouldn't pick her up coz she wouldn't play their industry games and that's how things work in the music industry in America
This song was nominated for a grammy in 1992, I think. It was the same year that Mariah Carey debuted her song. Don’t remember it, but .Mariah won the grammy. I always thought Allanah was a much better singer!
@@arliewayne1 more interesting for sure!
Thumbs up if your superb taste in music brought you here!
Thumbs up! And not from a video game either, although GTA exposes kids to alot of great music.
yup -- I have 1,500 vinyl LPs, most from 1967 to 1989 -- a beautiful period of the most excellent music!
You bet , I give it few thousand “ thumbs up “ - my daughter plays GTA , yet she finds the old music annoying as heck . But it’s nice that they incorporate decent music into it instead of the “ ghastly, horrifying and hyper sexual “ music from the new generation of young people.
I knew this record from GTA 5, but I just came because it's so damn nice hearing a bluesy rhythm with such a smooth woman's voice like that, which isn't singing about a full-blown degrading lifestyle!
Saw her perform this in concert.....it was magic. The entire concert was fantastic.

Damn, even after all these years, in 2024, her raw, sultry voice still does something to me. It's so different from the sanitized, autotuned singers of today. I miss hearing a powerful voice like this. It must have been something else to hear it live.

One best Elvis Presley tribute songs ever!
Most folks👆👇 didn't know that
yep
Explain, thanks
asioczek7 Elvis was born in Mississippi in a dry spell he knew how to dance and sing so he went to Memphis where his songs made the girls go wild. that’s what I gathered in reading the lyrics
This song will mellow

Quoting from Wikipedia: "Black Velvet became a number one hit for two weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in 1990 and reached number one on the Album Rock Tracks chart, as well as number one in Canada and number two on the UK Singles Chart. Myles won the 1990 Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocalist for the song. Since its release, the song has received substantial airplay, receiving a "Millionaire Award" from ASCAP in 2005 for more
than four million radio plays."
