Had a 2008 ktm smc and put 40k miles on it without issue. Now own a 2019 ktm smc r and have 15k on and zero issues. Did the valve adjustment myself (all were out of adjustment). Did the shinko 705 setup, but wasn’t impressed with off-road ability of bike. Bought KKE 21” 18” dirt bike wheels off eBay and they bolted right on..now have two bikes in one..and it handles great off road..
Nice! Did you do all of the performance mods like the Rottweiler instake system, SAS delete, fuel dingle, PC6, etc? I'm curious how the reliability is with the mods. Shinko 705 tires are not meant for serious off-roading, you have to get proper knobbies for that but for dual sport riding with ligh off-roading the Shinko 705s are great for that and bulletproof tires. I would never use this 690 for serious off-roading anyways, I have my YZ450FX for that and would get a 2 stroke for proper gnarly off-road riding. I don't do much off-roading so the 705's are perfect for my application.

I have ridden a 690 and Husky 701 and its crazy how different the power delivery is from my old KTM 640 LC4. I'm sure its the electronic nannies smoothing out the TQ delivery.... My 640 has very abrupt hit down low and passing power in 5th gear is just a simple twist of the wrist no matter what speed your going. Enjoy your new 690, its a super cool bike.

Congrats on the new bike dude, I have the same one. Don't wait to get an exhaust and a power commander. Don't let warranty stop you from riding the bike it was meant to be. Without a tune the bike runs lean, overheats and not good for the engine. Once you tune it, it turns into a whole new beast. Can't wait to see some long distance tour on it. It's the proper bike for such activities. Forget ADV and naked bikes, supermotos are way more fun do go on a long ride.
My 97 ktm lc4 is 608 cc single. Its a monster. I can only imagine how the newer ones feel.
Rottweiler airbox, power commander 6, fuel dongle and Arrow exhaust will blow your mind. It's a game changer. Sucks riding it stock.
And stock it is powerful, I can only imagine it modded, I bet it is a beast. I just hope I don't mess up the reliability modding it. lol I have no problem modding Japanese bikes but euro bikes scare me. lol

Night and day on my older 2016, brings up the power on par with the newer ones. A new one with a rotty and PC would be insane. Wheelies all day just by slamming the throttle back.
@@CycleCruzapower commander and the fuel dongle can be easily taken off if it needs to go to the dealer and leaves no trace in case of any warranty claims. Those mods are a must have for proper fueling on these models. They also run cooler and smoother with them.

you can get crazy with gas tanks on these.. have you heard of the husqvarna 701LR (long range)... oem husky removed the radiator shroud plastics and added 2 more fuel tanks. so bike has 3 fuel tanks, stock.
i enjoyed my time with my 690 but i dont regret trading it for my 2022 mt10, the thing with the 690 is its heavy for a supermoto and it doesnt wheelie as easily as my ktm 530exc supermoto and not to mention i dont need 2 supermotos so i parted ways with her but i loved the thump of that lc4 what a beast of a motor, hope you enjoy it man they really are way more reliable now days especially the lc4
Not sure if it's different on the 2024, but my 2023 the TC light needs to be ON to indicate TC is deactivated (My manual the page is 20 that discusses this). So you may have not actually had the TC off like you thought!!
Additionally, I would HIGHLY reccomend you get the Rottweiler mods... completely different bike for the better!!! (Well if you like rowdy)

I have the Leovince Nero slip on and before had the arrow and i prefer the Leovince because is longer and because of that the sound is a little deeper.
I have rade garage storage kit that is very handy but a different air filter and powerparts airbox cover will help.
Change the sprocket and the bike will be more fun.
Litthium battery will help on the weight.
"Ducati spacers" on the throtlle.
Full throttle the reserve light turns on after 100miles, calm the reserve light turns at 137miles.
I already did 30 miles on the reserve going slow.
Any opinions on this being a first bike? or too much power

congrats on the bike. Regarding your comment on torque, the latest gen SMCR uses a shorter stroke motor which is why it has less bottom end torque compared to the previous gen, same goes for the husq 701 variant. The added benefit was maintaining more top end power and extending the rev range to 9k rpm vs I think 8k-8250rpm where peak power would taper off the higher the rpm was.
If you install a rotweiller intake you will loose more low end grunt and gain a lot more up top but much of the loss of torque can be recovered with a more aggressive ignition timing using a power commander or ecu reflash. I had this bike for 2 years and it's still the funnest bike I've owned because of the balance of power and weight. I currently ride a Multi V4 Pikes Peak and am waiting for the 1390 SD EVO and the hypermotard 698 to arrive at my nearest dealer to see what I move towards. If neither of these bikes hit home, I will probably buy another 690/701 because of how fun it was.

Good choice. Bike is great. New exhaust, air filter and tune wake up this bike like crazy. Do not go with power commander get a custom tune. Enjoy it!
Yo Cruza, Im glad you got one!! Ive been watching you for years!! I had an Fz07 I coverted w/ R6 front end with Ktech rear shock, and flashed ecu. Was my favorite bike when I lived in Hawaii. Sold it and moved to Oregon saving up for the 690 or Husky 701. I'm still debating though some people say get the enduro (I may try some of the BDR's here) versions of either bike and then add supermoto wheels, did you ever look into that? But yeah I cant wait to hear on your thought on reliability!

I don't see how weighing the front and back and adding them together can be accurate. I just don't think it can be.
I also have an MT07. Is it worth the upgrade? I'm surprised because i would think the 690 would have a bunch more power.
Also, is the yz450 okay on the 70mph highway for like an hour? Seat probably sucks but is the motor okay with it?
Do you think it's worth selling my mt07 and drz400sm to get one? Or do you think it's better to have two different bikes
Imo, I would sell the DRZ for the 690 but keep the MT-07. It is great having two different bikes. However, if you only just one bike the KTM 690 is a great bike to have as your only bike because it is so versatile. The 690 power is fun, you can be a hooligan on it but yet cruise on it, ride if off-road (with ADV tires like Shinko 705 tires) or even tour across the country on it. I was amazed at how stout the power is on this 690. It is more powerful than my YZ450FX but the YZ has much stronger and violent bottom end grunt. This is going to be a fun build, I can't wait to open it up.

Nice! So far I have found no reason to power mod mine. Seems decent enough to me. The suspension is pretty easy to adjust per the manual. I had mine in comfort mode and it was really diving in the front. I put it in standard. Ill probably move it to half way between standard and sport. It is a 5 minute job to do the front and back. I will say the gears seem tall. 6th gear under 65 seems like it is about to lug.

@CycleCruza Nice. I looked at the Rottweiler airbox mod and PCV flash they offer with it, but I was happy enough with my 701 as it was, so never went that far with it. They offer the same mods for my 1290, but I'm finding it also unnecessary, so likely won't do it on my current bike either. Looking forward to seeing the updates. Have fun with it.

I looked hard at that bike, ended up going 500 exc-f .... but it was a tough call. Nice bike.
I have a 23 690 smcr and get about 48 miles per gallon. Low fuel light comes on at 145 miles on the trip meter. So 3 gallons used and .7 gallons remaining.or about 33 miles reserve.

The 690 comes very restricted...the torque on the SMCR is wild..once u drop a tooth on the front sprocket, and do all the mods to unlock the power. I was doing wheelies by KTM 450s/500 supermotos
And yet it is still powerful in stock form. I was seriously impressed with the stock power so I know it is going to even more awesome modded. I look forward to doing a build on it.

The torque of the KTM will come out as soon as you put a pipe on it. The big bore honda XR's were always like that too. Thats a nice looking bike.

I am interested in a comparison between the 690 and the MT-07. I owned a FZ-07 and I always thought it would be comparable to a 690SM. Interested in your thoughts.
The power is simular but the 690 is even lighter weight. The bottom end feels a bit stronger in the MT-07 but I need to mod this 690 and open it up to get more grunt according to 690 owners.The 690 is powerful even in stock form tho, more power than you'l ever need in a supermoto. it felt great to crack the throttle open.
You won't believe me but I always wanted to know wheither to buy an mt07 or ktm 690 SMCR
New rider? If so, try the mt-03 first, if not a new rider then get the SMC R, more versatile bike. Both are about the same power but the SMC R feels a bit quicker because it is lighterweight.

A couple of years ago iwas going to buy the KTM dual sport but the seat height was too high for me (5'.9" tall)
I could comfortably ride your KTM super moto as I see it's like 35 inch high seat height.

Thanks! Yeah you'll have no problem with it in Supermoto form. I flat foot it with my knees slightly bent and I'm just 6 ft. It is a fantastic bike that can do a little bit of everything.

I have the 701SM and have considered selling to build out a 450. The issue is that I have 30m freeway riding go get to good backroads from my house. So, I have kept the 701.
I'll keep it real, my YZ450FX supermoto is more fun because of how extremely lightweight it is to mess around off-road and the violent bottom end torque. My YZ is great on the highway but I can't take long trips like the 690. I think its best to have both bikes if you can. The 450 requires so much more maintenance so it is just a dessert bike for me.
@@CycleCruza Agree 100%. I own some dirt bikes and the weight makes a huge difference. I might convert my KTM 250sx-f to SM 😯....maybe I should just save up for a 450 next year.
My brother has this bike all modded out and its a beast.
I have a 2021 enduro R, I added a rottweiler intake, sas removal, power commander 6, arrow black carbon, I had the suspension revalved and spring for my weight and a steering dampener , man it's not the same bike it now has the power and is not jerky anymore
. That bike was meant to run like this, stock it's so restricted.
I hear the rottweiler intake just adds top end but subtracts bottom end grunt. I'm hesitant to mess with the airbox but I will be adding a full exhaust and PC6, I may or may not add an aftermarket intake system. Stock form this 2024 bike is not jerky at all, actually pretty smooth, too smooth.
I wanna get a 250 virago. Sound great and look fun as hell to ride.

I’m short guy I’m only 5’7” 156 pounds I’m looking to buy my first supermoto this summer but I don’t know what would be a good choice can you please recommend a bike that I can actually touch the ground please. I ride a 21 Harley street glide but I have air ride so I touch no problem I can ride anything I just want something i can touch the damm ground ya know. I can’t even touch on a CR250 or YZ. or can you make a video on the best bikes for short rider
Sounds like it doesn’t have low RPM punch when you twist the throttle. That’s the opposite of what I imagined for a 690 supermoto.
You have to spend more $$$ to make it run like you want, and doing that voids your warranty?

@@CycleCruza this is my 1st KTM also. I absolutely love it! Had since Feb 2022. Have a lil 17K miles on it. Pretty much every mod rottweiler has also! I got the Leo vince exhaust with the tekmo head pipe. Rottweiler intake, SAS delete, PCV. Supermofools LED headlight with the orange bar. CRG flip mirror. I also run the shinko 705 tires. But honestly it's not the best off road bike. I may change those back to street tires after these are wore out.

Sell the ktm 690 and ride the heck out that YZ. You usually don't use the top end anyhow. If plan on doing some touring on the ktm, I can think of at least 6 bikes that can tour better and still be fun

@cyclecruza My unicorn bikes are the BMW G650X converted to supermoto or the fo real fo real unicorn Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono.. definitely considered the KTM 690SMC as a unicorn, but I'd probably rather go for the Husqvarna 690 instead basically the same bikes with little differences so the first two are definitely my unicorns.
I predict you will want a new seat, the false neutrals will tick you off, and you will want more info from your gauges.

The little windscreen you can get makes a big difference to highway comfort.
I don't understand. You already had a supermoto that you have tons of fun with. Why spend all that cash on a new one that is heavier and more docile? I hope it treats you well and I know you will use it but I think there will be some regret. I can't see you pulling wheelies and using this bike the same way you do the YZ. Always afraid to dump it and scratch it. Just being real with you dude. Terrible touring option. Uncomfortable seat and no wind protection for long rides. Anyway, Stay safe out there. Don't get it twisted, it is more powerful than my YZ BUT the bottom end torque is way better on the YZ. Two completely different animals. On the highway the 690 felt great to me, I can see myself riding to California and also doing the TAT. The YZ is just a dessert bike because it requires so much maintenance. his 690 I don't have to think about oil changes and I can do a little bit of everything on it. I want to collect supermotos, I want also add a 2 stroke street legal supermoto, maybe a Honda 500 2 stroke, that would be sick.

Unfortunately you'll need to properly uncork it with the official track package doing the exhaust cat and ecu to properly review the bike.
Nice, I'm disappointed a bit, though, my boy. I was expecting something totally different, like a muscle cruiser such as Yamaha Road Star Warrior 1700, Harley VRod, or even a Honda Magna. The KTM is nice, but it's just more of the same. I would have been even happy seeing you again on a Honda CBR 250R. Going back to your roots. 😅 Enjoy the new bike...
Don't think I could bring myself to spend over $10,000 on any dirt bike or supermoto. KTM 690 is pretty complete. Don't know how much more you could do for content. A cruiser build or another supermoto build from a Yamaha like you did before would have been cool.
That's weird that it has the S21's on it. The GASGAS variant comes with the Continental Attack SM EVO. Much better tire.
That yz light as hell. Think my Trk is about 530, my scooter is well over 400.
Yeah it literally feels like a mountain bike compared to my 690, feather light. Power to weight ratio is amazing on the 450 but requires so much more maintenance.
Dude, put like 500 miles on those tires before you swap them out. Then put them on the YZ if they fit.

Exhaust, Rottweiler intake, and Powercommander will get it closer to the savagery of the YZ. It's great stock, but it feels a little tame without the mods. Have fun!

Yeah for that price you would think KTM would put an LED headlight and a fully liaded speedo with a fuel gauge and a RPM gauge. The DRZ400 which I have a 2018 S model doesn't have these either but I set one of the trip meters and refill the tank before it hits a 100 miles. I've actually been looking at Suzuki's new GSX8R which I like better than it's S model sibling because the full fairings with basically the same seating position and feel of the handle bars. Hope you enjoy your new bike man and the adventures on it to come.
KTM is coming out with an all new 2025 690 SMC R, so I bet it has better updated stuff on it. That is probably why I got a sick deal on this bike. The GSX8R looks pretty cool. Best of luck with your purchase!
