I am saying this as someone living in Turkey. Some people here have called it a terrorist attack and the like, but this incident occurred because of the irresponsibility of people and authorities.
Totally avoidable with proper fire codes and especially in the initial construction. Shame on the architect or owner for not putting safety first when building this.
This hotel failed 80 percent of the rules that Local Fire Dept. examined responding a request from the owners 2 weeks ago. After FD responds, they revert back their examination request and acquired a Turism License also covering Fire eligibility from a 3rd party certification company. They possibly bribed them to pass. The fire department, which is affiliated with the municipality, does not have the right to impose sanctions on this hotel. On the contrary, this is the job of the Ministry of Tourism. However, as always in Turkey, everyone blames each other.

I don't know if it's reliable, but I've heard there were no fire evacuation routes, no sprinklers, and no one instructing people how to get out. My deepest condolences to the family, friends, loved ones and co-workers of those that perished.
It took an hour for the fire brigade to arrive. That’s unacceptable. Buildings of any kind should not be permitted to be constructed unless there is a fire station close by or a reasonable distance away. 😢
@Bethanyview There were two internal fire stairs. According to recent information the hotel manager and employees tried to extinguish the fire, turn off the electricity and never let the people know about fire at the first stage. They are all arrested including the fire chef who is nephew of the mayor and signed an allowance 20 days ago although the hotel did not meet the fire requirements. We hope they will never see the sun again.
There was a fire alarm but it was not activated. There was no fire escape. Many people died, and almost all of them were young people. People preferred to die by jumping from windows to avoid burning to death. There wasn't even a fire extinguisher. The fire department was far away but still took longer than expected to arrive. There is so much neglect.

HOW could this happen?? Must be some Gov regulations in case of a fire. Fire can happen anywhere but there are the Emergency routs escapes, the fire extinguishers and so on.
The regulations are there, but who enforces them. There was a report from the fire brigade listing at least 8 major faults (not working fire alarm, no sprinklers system, fire escapes not adequate), why this death trap wasn’t shut down immediately remains to be seen (if ever)
This looks so much like a TRAP style building! Tall with ugly small windows, and apparently not much in the way of Fire equipment. I honestly think it not only looked like a fire hazard it was a nasty fire hazard. Those poor people it must have been a terrible way to die.
Whats seriously wrong here is the almost nonchalant attitude these people on the scene seem to have regarding this horrific incident. I noticed several who appeared to be smiling and God forbid joking! Apparently human life means nothing in Turkey.
Good Lord was the Entire Hotel made out of WOOD?? Reports have said it took Fire Crews over an Hour to reach the site because of the location which no doubt contributed to the death toll. A great Tragedy. 🙏🌹
Wow! How on earth can a tall building like this not have stairs?! I said to my Husband, just grab your papers and money and right away get on the stairs and feel your way down!! This is always the best way to exit a burning building. But if no stairs, then that's a crime. Nobody on the top floors would have had any chance of getting out.
There was no fire alarm. Some people woke up from the sound of breaking. Unfortunately, the people who died in the hotel could not go downstairs due to the smoke. The corridor was full of smoke. The staircase had a smoke effect like a chimney. The smoke immediately poisoned. The survivors placed wet towels in front of the door to prevent smoke from entering the room. And so there were many who were saved. The people on the top floor are the ones who died immediately. My condolences
As a result of the state's incompetence, everything they did in twenty years cost the lives of the people. The power and mismanagement of the people that fell into the hands of the wrong people turned the order upside down. As a Turkish citizen, I do not give up my rights to them.
