The PS22 Chorus delivers big time on this New York anthem by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys! Props to Dominique & Messale for amazing jobs on the lead vocals & rap (respectively). And of course to Ethan for a well-deserved happy dance at the song's conclusion.
We based our version more on the Alicia Keys "Empire State of Mind Part II," but as a tribute to Jay-Z version, the kids and I created our own little rap that obviously was a bit more age appropriate.
2010 is proving to be an extremely prolific year for the PS22 Chorus! Look for them in February on the Tyra Banks Show!
props to the teacher because i remember when i was in school, if there was just one teacher/class that i liked, it made me happy to be in school. i hope being in this chorus keeps these kids excited about being in school.
To see each child so thoroughly engaged and so expressive is such a treat. The power of music is astounding.
The music teacher really brings out the best in these children. They have such beautiful voices. I love their enthusiasm as well as their music teacher!

Good god, the power of music! No matter how hard you look, you won't find one kid who isn't moving and feeling it! I just love its pureness! Goosebumps no matter how many times I watch it! Serious KUDOS to their teacher who taught then how to FEEL music!!!
I was trying to figure out why I got so choked up while watching it and the only thing I could come up with is that their pure joy of making music together is so plain to see, one can't help but wish we could all be so happy working together as we get older.
The voice if the boy is just awesome. I mean absolutely amazing!
this is great. Unconventional arts. Rap appreciated. JayZ is great. Teaching and seeing the kids sing is awesome. Hope for a new generation.

How can they not be motivated!! Being on TH-cam has definitely afforded them some amazing opportunities but these kids are being taught how to feel music and not just sing it.The motivation may start with Mr. B but as they go along it becomes internalized-- I think they would be this good even if they weren't on here and THAT is the ART of teaching~ because as amazing as the videos on here are it is even more amazing to see in person trust me.

This had to have taken a lot of hard work to get everything just right for a straight through videotaping with no mistakes. But what comes across to me is a strong sense of what so many New Yorkers must feel about their city. Another A+ for the PS 22 Chorus!
