It's not just the music, it's the lyrics that captures the culture, sights, sounds, people, aspirations of the big apple so seamlessly that makes this song so powerful.
I am from Chile, Latin America, a third world country, it is difficult to go to New York but when I listen to this song I feel that it is very possible if I make the effort, going to New York is one of my dreams.
It’s more about what NYC represents to most people. My grandfather immigrated looking for a better and more successful life. To him it’s the root of the American dream and a better life. To me it is just where the Yankees beat the Red Sox and a homeless man jerks off on the train.
I remember walking through the streets of New York, this song playing in my head, feeling the majestic exuberance of the moment and thinking there's not a lot that can trump this feeling. I left my heart in NYC. She herself stole my heart.

if you like this one you will enjoy City of Gods by Kanye ft. Alicia Keys.. Same deal, about new york, but it's a bit more modern. more fitting for 2022.
Via o clipe, me imaginava nessa mega cidade.
I grew up in NYC, left for 4 years trying to live somewhere else when I was 18 - got super restless and came back at age 22. Absolutely broke, all my family moved away, had no degree, no prospects. But this song just came out and was all over the radio so I was like FUCK IT I'm STAYING whatever it takes this is my HOMETOWN, I'm not going anywhere! 15 years later I have a degree, own a townhouse in Brooklyn, have a new family, and a great career. This town is built by and for ambitious people! If you are willing to work hard, be adaptable, and make sacrifices, NYC will reward you. If you think you don't belong here - think again! This town is for everyone.
I remember as a kid we were on a family road trip from texas to new york, this song played on the radio when we got there. This song brings back memories.

So they can step out of bounds quick, the sidelines is
Lined with casualties, who sip the life casually
Then gradually become worse, don't bite the apple, Eve
Caught up in the in-crowd, now you're in style
Into the winter gets cold, en vogue, with your skin out
City of sin, it's a pity on a whim
Good girls gone bad, the city's filled with them
Mommy took a bus trip, now she got her bust out
Everybody ride her, just like a bus route
"Hail Mary" to the city, you're a virgin

this reminds me of my father. he's gone now, but everytime i hear it, it makes me cry. he was such a loud n proud italian new yorker who LOVED his city. he was funny, passionate, always singing, an amazing chef. this song takes me to driving into new york, my dad scrolling on his ipod until he found it... and blaring it, turning around in his seat to sing to me. i miss him so much.
Nothing like a loud Italian father :)
I cant even express how I feel with you. I just wish you the best.

I have friends in Brooklyn.. I haven't been on the East coast in a minute...I miss the energy.
I was in New York Times square 2 weeks ago, I'm Australian and someone had this song pumping it just sent chills down my spine.... perfect!
if you like this one you will enjoy City of Gods by Kanye ft. Alicia Keys.. Same deal, about new york, but it's a bit more modern. more fitting for 2022.
Yo that's the EXACT same thing that happened to me! I was in Times Square and this guy kept playing it over and over.
@Usman Bamgbola I have no idea who he is but Kanye and Alicia Keys make that song.

Via o clipe, me imaginava nessa mega cidade.
Boa sorte 🙏🏼

Minha vontade é a mesma cara.

Love that "ey..." from Jay-Z at 2:08.
God bless brotha! You went out and got that wet dream tomato. Mad respect!
